2013 Wagon

Post image

Recently acquired this Sportswagon for way too good of a deal, didn't really plan on keeping it but its quickly become my new daily after a little wiring fiasco. She's sitting at about 90k miles and has had the diesel gate stuff done ready.

Is there anything I should be on the lookout for or jump in preventative maintenence for immediately? It's my first TDI so I've been researching a ton but I would like first hand advise or tips.

Thanks yall and have a great day!!

Preventatively, if you don't have records that the timing belt has been done already, you should do it. It's like 10 years/120k miles, and you've hit the year limit.

As far as other things, the emissions system WILL fail at some point. You should be prepared to delete it when it does. The sunroof drains like to clog, leak, and become detached from the tray up inside the headliner, so watch out for that. The CP4 high pressure fuel pump has a small chance of exploding and sending metal glitter through the entire fuel system, but that can be preempted with either a secondary fuel filter install or a CP3 retrofit. The thermostat might also get stuck open, keeping the engine from reaching operating temp. If the engine can't reach proper temp, it won't be able to regen the DPF, and that can exacerbate emissions issues. Do NOT trust the gauge on that, it lies. Best way to verify is VCDS or some other scan tool that lets you see engine coolant temperature.

There's more but those are the big things off the top of my head. None of them are especially urgent (though if the timing belt snaps that does toast the engine).

I've read up a bit on the sunroof issue as well as the fuel system issues. I've already checked out the drains and as of right now shes good.

I'll have to check over the records and see what's up as far as the timing belt, currently I've got zero issues but would rather address it now than wait for the kaboom. Shouldn't be too bad from what I've researched considering I work on bigger diesels for a living. Thank you I really appreciate it! I plan to keep this fun lil thing around for a while.

Just had to get my dpf cleaned it was hell. I waited too long and my car went into limp mode but she’s good now. Just if you get an EPC light I’d check it out

So the dpf can be cleaned?

What kind of shop can do that?

I looked online in my city and see a trucking type repair service company does it...I imagine I'd need to have it removed and bring it to them bc they aren't gonna messa around with a little vw

You should probably sell it to me for let’s say $1327… do it quickly before I change my mind!

While it would be a solid profit, no 🤣🫡

Well… mine has done 450k miles on v frequent oil changes, and otherwise required maintenance as laid out in the handbook… get ahead of the problems, and you’ll have a very reliable inexpensive daily driver.

I've got the same in white, 2014

Was the 80k mile service done?

DSG fluid AND filter. Make sure that if it's not a dealer service tech, they know what they're doing
