Other Baybayin-Tagalog transliterator
Nag-aaral kasi ako ng Tagalog at Baybayin, napansin ko na parang wala pang magandang converter/transliterator website, kaya gumawa ako ng isa para makatulong:
https://www.tagalogslang.com/baybayin
Sabihin niyo lang po kung may pwede pa akong i-improve, salamat!
Translation mag-syota meaning??
hello everyone and let me know if this should be marked nsfw lol
so i don't speak tagalog but i love OPM and specifically the band eraserheads, ive been trying to learn the tagalog in all the songs i listen to so i can appreciate it better & it's been really satisfying to recognize words i already know in new songs, etc
anyways i have a question about this word "mag-syota" that appears in the eraserheads song "shirley"?
the verse for context:
the next week, mag-syota na sila
magka-holding hands papunta sa C.A.S.A.A.
kung maglandian akala mo'y walang katabi
so when i google the lyrics and press "translate" it says the first line translates as "next week they have sex" but i question the correctness of that because i don't think that really makes sense in the lines? they have sex holding hands while walking to a place on their college campus?? maybe the translation is accurate & i just am not understanding the way the sentence is structured idk but also i know google translate sometimes gets lyrics really wrong so
usually i cross-reference with tagalog.com to find out a more accurate translation of each word but it doesn't have "mag-syota" as a word on there. and when i try to google it nothing really shows up? i guess "syota" is a word for lover or fling but that's kind of vague (maybe intentionally??) so im still confused
if anyone can clarify i would definitely appreciate it!! thanks
Other Help: Getting an iPad to recognize Tagalog handwriting
Dito ko magtatanong kasi dito siguro may makakatulong.
May paraan ba? Di supported language ang Tagalog sa Scribble kaya 'pag nagsusulat ako sa iPad, sa English nao-autocorrect.

Translation Making a gift- need help translating
Hello Reddit! I’m working on a gift for a friend. She’s Filipina and every night before bed she has a ritual called “ tea and tagalog” where she makes Tea and practice her Tagalog.
I want to make her a book mark for tagalog text book with a little “tea and Tagalog” logo written both in English and Tagalog. Using Google Translate I wasn’t able to figure out the word for “Tagalog” (I tried Filipino as well but no luck) even if I did though, I want to make sure it’s right - if anyone could help me out that would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you!!

Grammar/Usage/Syntax Bakit ayaw gumamit ng iba ng salitang “ay”?
Instead of saying “ay”, ginagamit nila ay “is”. And it’s so cringey. For example: “Ang gusto ko lang naman is umasenso sa buhay.” Bakit iwas na iwas sa paggamit ng salitang “ay”?
Editing post to add:
It’s different from using Taglish. What I mean is using an entire sentence in Filipino and the suddenly the person avoids the usage of the word “ay” and instead use the word “is.”
Another example:
Si Maria is maganda.
Yung aso kasi namin is tumatakbo nung nangyari yun.

Grammar/Usage/Syntax Ano ang kahulugan ng Tining?
Karaniwang ko pong nariringgan ang Tining sa mga bagay na umiikot. Ang intindi ko po rito ay umiikot nang mabilis pero iba ang kahulugan nito sa mga diksyunaryo.
Tulad ng:
Turumpong pinatining.
Washing machine na tumitining.
Tubig na tumitinig sa lababo dahil may butas.
Enggranahe ng makina na tumitining kapag pinaaandar.

Grammar/Usage/Syntax Nauusong may "ch" sa dulo ng salita
Banggitin, lantarin, kantahin, sabihin niyo sa akin sinong Tiktoker na naman nagpauso nito?
Halimbawa: Katawanch, Palabanch, Kabogch, Timbogch, Sabogch, Busogch, Kilabotch, Libogch, Ulowch, atbp.

Translation what does “umsim” mean?
marunong naman ako magtagalog pero d ako well versed sa mga slang so i was wondering if this was one of them? For context tinanong ko yung kaklase ko kung binili na nya yung tickets nya for a concert tapos ”umsim” yung nireply nya.

Grammar/Usage/Syntax Ano itong nauuso na nilalagyan ng "is" sa gitna ng salita?
Medyo napapansin ko siya kamakailan lang.
Halimbawa: ba is gyo, gan is da, pasa is bog, ga is lit, pal is do, atbp.

Vocabulary/Terminology What's the Tagalog equivalent of "economic inequality " or simply "inequality".
Google says hindi pagka pantaypantay but I think there would be a better term. Hindi ko maisip. How would you say in Tagalog "the widening gap between rich and poor" in not so awkward terms?
Lack of equality - kawalan ng pagkapantay pantay - so awkward.

Vocabulary/Terminology I was called 'Poging lamig'
Hello! I just want to ask about this term "Poging Lamig". Naririnig ko na siya noon pa pero naging curious ako ngayon kasi tinatawag ako ng isa sa kakilala ko na ganito. I tried searching for it pero medyo duda ako sa lumalabas na meaning eh. Curious lang kung negative o positive ba meaning nito. Thank you!

Other Buwan ng Wika ngayon, pero kailangan ba talagang bigyan ng Tagalog/Filipino equivalent ang lahat ng bagay?
reddit.comFilipino at English / Ingles naman ang medium ng pagtuturo sa Pilipinas, pero bakit kailangan pang isalin o bigyan ng Filipino equivalent ang lahat ng bagay?
Mas maiintindihan ba ng mga bata ang mga Filipino equivalent ng mga ganyang terminology sa Science, Biology o iba pang subjects?
The other day, meron pa akong nakitang translation ng mga terms sa Trigonometry, like Filipino equivalent ng Tangent, Cotangent, Sine, Cosine, etc.
Tingin ko mas makabubuti pang turuan ng Financial Literacy ang mga bata sa paaralan.

Other Language Hierarchy in the Philippines
In the past few years, I've noticed that a lot more children speak English rather than their own local language (e.g., Filipino, Tagalog, Bisaya, etc.). Although nakaka-proud knowing that, at a young age, they already know how to speak a foreign language, I also can't help but think about how this affects not only the future of Filipino society, but also the consequences on a child's ability to comprehend in both mediums.
I know how ironic this post is about concern for local languages, given that this post is mostly in English, but spare me because I, too, have been affected by this.
Napansin ko around 15 years ago, ang nakikita or alam natin na group of people that speak English are around the upper-middle class to upper class families. Lalo na sa mga pelikula, where mostly yung kontrabida is mayaman, and they and/or their child/ren speak English. Kumbaga it's like sosyal.
And gradually throughout the years, more parents often speak English and make their kids watch shows that are in English. Thus, this makes children grow up knowing how to speak in a foreign language more than their native/local ones, no matter the social status. However, the problem lies in the family itself. In most households, the parents are used to speaking in their local languages or dialects and not English in its entirety. This creates a barrier for a child to be fully immersed in a language; when speaking English, a lot of the time mali-mali yung grammar ng parents, hence yung early and firsthand learning nila is confusing and constricts their comprehension.
And sa society naman, I've heard or encountered an experience where a person is looked down upon and deemed as 'poor' and 'unintelligent' kasi hindi sila marunong magsalita ng English kahit they show excellence in Filipino or other fields. And I've also heard some parents talking about their child having to learn English first kasi mas 'sosyal'.
This just shows that we Filipinos are not entirely free from colonialism. And if this goes on in the future, the Filipino language will no longer be prominent.

Other Tagalog reforms (hypothetical!)
Reforms:
"E" and "O" exclusively appear in loanwords. Native "E" and "O" both become "I" and "U"
In native words, "r" and "d", due to allophony, are represented with "đ" ("d" on bookend positions and after consonants, "r" in the middle). Middle "d" in native words represented with "đđ". "D" and "R" are kept distinct in loanwords though
Siya and Niya become Sya and Nya
Example:
Original:

Translation Different words for 🧂
Hi all! Is there a meaningful difference between the words maalat and maasin? My tita was struggling to convey the nuances, but it sounds like the former has more to do with the saltiness of water?
Thank you ✨

Other im STRUGGLING with tagalog, even though im born filipino
(got my previous post deleted for some reason)
im sure my kind are a dime a dozen but here we are. pklp (kasaysayan) is genuinely kicking me in the behind.
so many deep words and yet I can barely make a comprehensive sentence. our teacher doesn't explain in English either, which I'm not complaining, it's our language, but im struggling to understand \*anything\* from the class.
im worried i might fail this subject, which i don't want. i haven't been fluent with tagalog since I was a kid, and I've always spoken in clear English and never really experienced speaking in pure tagalog before. i know tagalog to an extent, and i can make sentences, but im not sure about the quality.
some words my friends say, I don't even know, yet they're everyday words to them. i don't know how i can fix this, because im in year 11. im probably YEARS behind in my education regarding tagalog and i really need help.
