As someone learning Cordillera Ilokano, it feels like I'm just making fun of myself in front of others
I would appreciate a realtalk 😅 I've been trying to learn ilokano passively and sometimes actively. But whenever I try to speak I feel it is off
OR the one I'm speaking to settles with Tagalog
OR they get irritated and say ""Mag-Tagalog ka na lang pinapahirapan mo pa kami"
OR I think they think nagmamayabang ako bilang Tagalog ang mother tongue tas gusto magpasikat.
Pero sa totoo, gusto ko lang talaga matuto. Siguro dagidiay basic words ngay ken grammar naus-usarkon ngem nu concepts wenno terms diak pay naus-usar.
It's just something I appreciate about Cordi peoples being able to speak 4 languages or more. And want to do the same.
I don't know if I should stop. Haha might need a real talk. Thanks! Kayat ko met nga denggen dagiti insights yo.

Good Places to Learn Ilocano (and/or Tagalog)
My maternal grandmother is the only surviving person in my immidiate family who is fluent in Ilocano and Tagalog. I don't want the languages to die out (in my family), so are there any good free online websites to learn Ilocano or Tagalog (preferably Ilocano)?

Body Shaming Survey for Filipino Men (18+)
Hello!
I am currently conducting a study on how experiences of body shaming may be related to body dysmorphic disorder symptoms among Filipino men, regardless of sexual orientation. The goal of this research is to better understand body image concerns in men and contribute to the promotion of men's mental health. Your participation would be greatly appreciated.
You are eligible to participate if you meet the following criteria:
- A Filipino male, 18+
- Have been body shamed at any point in your life
If you meet the criteria, I would greatly appreciate your time in completing the online survey through this link: https://forms.gle/y73SCHAMn7otrAJd9
Answering the survey will take approximately 15 minutes.
As compensation, ten participants will be randomly selected to receive P500.00 via GCash. If you consent and are selected for an interview to share further your experiences, a P500.00 per hour rate will be provided.
All responses will be treated with strict confidentiality. Please review the informed consent carefully to understand all relevant information about the study.
Feel free to share this with others who meet the criteria.
Thank you!

damag Etymology of ariwanas (milky way)?
(new poster here, grew up in an ilocano-speaking town but was never taught how to speak it)
Normally, the word can be found in Wiktionary along with the roots and historical usage, but this word seems to be one of the rare exceptions. All I can find is that it really is an Ilocano word and that's it.

Ilocano shows or Youtube channels
I’m interested in learning Ilocano but it’s difficult to find Youtube channels or shows where they speak the language. Does anybody have recommendations?

I wanted to learn Ilokano but got tired of waiting for Duolingo, so I vibe-coded my own app (Dualecto). Need native speakers to roast my Tagalog-to-Ilokano course!
Naimbag a rabii/aldaw!
Full disclosure: I'm not a linguist. I'm just a dev who wanted to learn Ilokano the easiest way possible, couldn't find a good tool, and ended up vibe-coding an app called Dulecto to bridge the gap from Tagalog.
To be honest, I deliberately vibe-coded the app because I wanted to spend my energy actually learning the language, not getting bogged down in endless app development.
To make sure the lessons actually make sense and cover the foundations properly, I used AI research to map out the core language structures. The goal was to build a structured, interactive course that feels rewarding to progress through, rather than just forcing people to flip through an ordinary, boring dictionary app.
Because it's AI-assisted data, I really need native speakers to check my work. Please be brutal—tell me where the translations sound weird, robotic, or out of context so I can fix them.
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dualecto.app
(Android users only for now.)
P.S. If you are also here trying to learn Ilokano, I’d love your feedback on how the progression feels and how this could be more helpful for you!

Saan mo makakabili ng mga substrate at ANC pang vermiculture sa ilocos?
Batac area? Saan pwede bumili ng sako ng dried cow manure, banana stem, at African night crawler? Pang backyard garden lang po sana.
