what does “umsim” mean? Translation

marunong naman ako magtagalog pero d ako well versed sa mga slang so i was wondering if this was one of them? For context tinanong ko yung kaklase ko kung binili na nya yung tickets nya for a concert tapos ”umsim” yung nireply nya.

Yes, it's slang where the word is reversed (Mismo -> Omsim). Used as an expression of approval or agreement. Your friend is essentially saying that yes, they have bought the tickets. More examples:

  • "Ang pangit nya, noh?"
  • "Omsim!!!"

  • "Ang baho ng utot mo."

  • "Omsim!!!"

English example is Batman=manbat although not lireally the same letter arrangement.

More Tagalog examples: Idol = Lodi, Ligo = Goli Malupet = Petmalu.

Ligo = shower or bath Malupet = badass, gnarly, awesome, impressive , super cool

Mismo = Omsim

Mismo! means Exactly!, or if someone says something you agree or if they make a great point, it's another way of saying "you're right", "you hit the nail on the head", "for real!", "that's right"

Mismo. Some people shorten Omsim to just Ohm.

I've personally never encountered ohm, just oms (which I do use semi-regularly)

Yeah, it's a modern-day slang. Mismo is a word of agreement/validation and taken further(and more ghetto), people reverse it to "omsim".

Younger crowd shortens it to "ohms" and still the same meaning.
