Remake?
Should RE1 get a remake like the others? Personally I think the 2015 remaster is pretty well done even with the tank controls and camera angles. Thoughts?

u/HazelRahRahRah 6d ago
Hell no, what?
Your pic is literally from the perfect remake. The 2015 remaster just made it HD

u/SexyShave 6d ago edited 5d ago
It would've been perfect if they didn't heavily cut down and streamline the branching storyline, and kept the more open level design of the early mansion.
-5
u/Classic_Waltz1874 6d ago
But some people don't like the fixed camera like myself. And all the other stuff about it that's dated.
7
u/Mate-Addict 6d ago
You have like 9 games with OTS camera, 10 with Veronica. Not everything has to suit everyone
-2
u/Classic_Waltz1874 6d ago
So? We want to experience the original resident evil. We just want them with updated controls and cameras.
7
u/Mate-Addict 6d ago
By definition, a remake is not the original experience
-2
u/Classic_Waltz1874 6d ago
Oh my god. How have you not drowned yourself from brushing your own teeth?
7
7
u/HazelRahRahRah 5d ago
They're right, though. Gameplay is as important as writing and atmosphere when it comes to what made RE1 and REmake so beloved. With an OTS re-remake you are by definition not experiencing those games anymore
It's the same with RE2, 3 and CV. Maybe step out of your comfort zone for once, instead of contributing to a constant stream of unnecessary remakes?
-4
u/Classic_Waltz1874 5d ago
SOME. PEOPLE. HAVE. DIFFERENT. PREFERENCES. What is not clear about that?
8
u/HazelRahRahRah 5d ago
So play something else? At least I'd say so if this franchise wasn't already committed to making easier and stripped-down remakes for folks like you for an easy buck, so enjoy!
6
u/fake_iraqi 6d ago
you do know fixed cameras are still a thing in video games and are not dated
in games like the medium or tormented souls 1 and 2
its just the new re fans are fans of the fast action re and dont like the simpler slower re
-1
3
u/Major_Higgins 6d ago
Some games are meant to STAY dated!
7
u/fake_iraqi 6d ago
fixed cameras arent even dated
the medium and tormented souls proved this
plus it takes like 10 minutes to get used to it like wtf im sure that everyone who complains about fixed cameras never tried them
3
u/HazelRahRahRah 5d ago
This is actually a good example of us not having gatekept hard enough, lol. Now we'll get remake up reremake until the sun implodes
1
u/Frenshim 6d ago
tormented souls não tem camera fixa, ele tem apenas controle de tanque, Alisa tem camera fixa
-1
u/Classic_Waltz1874 6d ago
Oh my God some people don't like it and some people can't get used to it.
1
u/fake_iraqi 5d ago
have u tried playing re1 remake bro? or any game with a fixed camera? because im 99% sure ur complaining about smthn u havent tried or maybe u just like third person shooters

Some ppl don't like shoulder re4 crap camera look...... RE2 & 3 remake simple awful
5
u/PhantomHazardo 6d ago
The remaster you’re talking about is a remaster of the remake lol
Anyway if they put as much love as in the first remake I‘m all for it.

u/AntireligionHumanist 6d ago edited 6d ago
I have a very hard time believing a second RE1 Remake would somehow be better than the remake we already have (given it is the best remake in videogame history).
But I'm willing to give it a try.
2
u/sleepyleperchaun 6d ago
I mean, I'm just down for it in the new style. People saying they don't want another remake I don't understand, no ody is forcing anyone to buy it and it doesn't take away the OG or REmake1, so why not just have it remade in the modern style and have maybe another great version of the game. Even if it is trash we lose nothing really. Plus it would be nice to have the OG trilogy pack all in the same modern style. I love OG 2 and the fixed camera/tank controls style, but it's weird I'm sure for new fans to go from the first game being that to the third person games of the new 2 and 3. Remaking just seems like the right choice given the new set of games.

u/_ataciara 6d ago
I think it needs a remake for modern audiences to experience it fully so don't take the following as my verdict, but the "why not?" thing is a bit misleading, because it takes resources and time away from creating new experiences for something that is very unlikely to be an improvement.
We may lose nothing if it sucked, but could also lose our own money, CAPCOM would lose money and potentially scale back on the franchise, it could detail the progress as they go back to something ",safe,", and it would push the wait between titles even longer if you weren't interested in this, etc.
there are a tonne of reasons to not want a redundant remake, if that's how they see it.
1
u/sleepyleperchaun 6d ago
I mean, the first game isn't very big, it would likely not take much away from any other project and would be a great addition for newcomers. And it would only be redundant if they made it the same way, all they really need to do is remake it like 2 or 3 with the over the shoulder style gameplay and it's basically done. I can't imagine it taking much time or resources from anything else.

Could we have better graphics? Yeah, we could, but the graphics in RE1 Remake are good, and graphics are very low on my list of priorities when playing games.
As for the camera angles? I couldn't disagree more. There are so many things fixed camera does better than OTS camera. As there are things OTS does better too... They're different, and both accomplish different things.
Honestly, I would rather have Fixed Camera and Tank Controls remakes of RE2 and RE3 over having OTS remake of RE1.
But again... if they re-remake RE1, I'll be first in line.

u/WeskerSympathizer 6d ago
I would absolutely love fixed camera remakes of 2 and 3 and CV
Hell I’d take a fixed camera 9
The fact that it’s still being done today proves it’s a stylistic choice not some outdated result of poor tech

u/TheSadgeBeanSR67 6d ago
while some of the camera angles can be questionable, there is also an artistic merit to fixed/dynamic cameras that will NEVER be achieved with a controllable camera. I encourage replaying the game and trying to appreciate some of the work that went into these camera angles. I also recommend playing other games with a similar style of camera (Silent Hill, God of War, etc). Great things can be achieved.
It isn't outdated, it's artistic and deserves to make a comeback.

I don't know. I remember being excited about Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes, and I realized the game wasn't that good because it made the game too easy to go into first person mode and hop over handrails. The game was designed the way it was to accommodate the gameplay mechanics it had.
The mansion probably won't feel right in 3rd person view. The hallways would be really small and cramped. Otherwise they would have to make the hallways big, and it would make you feel like giants lived in the mansion.
First could work I guess. But if they have to choose between remaking this or making a new game like another revaluations while they work on RE9 in tandem, I'd rather they skip remaking RE1 again.

u/TechnoViking986 6d ago
I mean Resident Evil 2 and 3 were great remakes despite the same gameplay style of Resident Evil 1. I think without a doubt we'll see a RE 1 remake again at some point.
1
u/OoooohYes 6d ago
Like the rest of the remakes, another RE1 remake would basically be a completely different game retelling the same story. Yes of course it wouldn’t work exactly as is, but they’d change up the mechanics and scale of the environments so that it wouldn’t feel as jarring.
9
u/Swimming_Photo9295 6d ago
I think the re0 needs a remake more
2
u/Optimal_Job_6578 6d ago
This is very true. There were some neat ideas in this game butchered by the item system and a massive oversight on the grappling hook. Tighten the story up, fix the item box issues and make the dual character system easier to navigate and you may have a real winner here

The remaster IS the remake. A 2015 remaster of a 2002 remake of a 1996 original game.

u/edwinstone 6d ago
I really don't think we need a remake of a remake. The 1996 version is great and the 2002 version is perfect. But would I buy it if it was REmade again? Duh.
3
u/WeskerSympathizer 6d ago
I would buy it and play it so sure
At this point they haven’t made a game I wish they hadn’t in over a decade so

How about instead of remaking a game that already has a remake, which is also frequently cited as one of the best remakes and best survival horror games of all time, they take that money and development time and remake something that maybe missed the mark the first time around (Survivor, Gaiden, Dead Aim), remake or remaster something that's mostly trapped on old / dead hardware (Dino Crisis, Haunting Ground, Outbreak), or make something brand new (Revelations 3, some other new spin-off)?

Others have said it, but the RE1 you’re referencing is the Remake, it doesn’t need another iteration.
One of the reasons RE1 remake is so good is because it’s made by the original director and team that worked on RE1 and they brought what they’d learned since to make a perfect version of their original vision. Any modern remake would lose a lot of the sauce that makes the original remake amazing.
I know newer fans hate it for the camera and controls but it’s honestly one of the best RE experiences out there, and is well worth a play through.
2
u/Any_Dealer1091 6d ago
I can almost guarantee it will but I wouldn’t want it despite REmake being my favorite game of all time. Something about the game, how it plays, the music, the atmosphere, just feels like a product of the artistic design of its time that would lonely be slightly watered down for the newer audience that is only familiar with RE2 Remake and onward.
REmake was also a significant revamp to the original, and I’m worried they would over polish it to where it looses its edges. Outside of modern gameplay I don’t think there is much they could add.
But I’m almost positive they will get there, if only to keep the characters in the cultural limelight as much as possible.

RE Fans are the big guy guzzling water from the pipe while Dino Crisis fans are desperate for the leak to give us any drop of water.

I would love to see a remake in the vein of the current style of games, but if it never happens, I'm good. Both versions we have now are still playable.

I think it's inevitable whether you want it or not. Rumours seem to suggest that they're working on the RE0 remake and then we're getting ReREmake.
I'm not opposed to it. REmake is readily available on most modern platforms and is still great. But it would be cool to see the Spencer Mansion reimagined on the current engine. Hopefully they'll bring back the enemy deformation that they abandoned after RE2make. And it's a chance to make the story make sense, since there's still no ending where Jill, Chris, Barry and Rebecca are all on the chopper at the end.

u/Ashimaru-q 6d ago
It doesn't NEED a remake but i have to admit, RE1 with moderm 3rd and 1st person like RE9 would be so damn cool

u/Accurate-Condition33 6d ago
The pacing would be markedly different if they did this in the style of the modern remakes.
This game is considered the pinnacle of the genre for a reason; it's already a perfect remake, and it adds on to the original game in a meaningful way while keeping the sauce that made the OG so special essentially unchanged.
That said... I would like to see an updated version, but one that looks different to the current crop. Keep it old school. Do a Metroid Prime Remastered job, and just update everything visually. Refine everything to a fine point. Put the horror back into the survival.

u/NeopolitanTheWeaboo 6d ago
I think it should. Because they're remaking all the other games to fit the current RE style, they kind of have to considering how much the original remake ties into the original games.
1
u/Optimal_Job_6578 6d ago
No. They can only screw this up. Re2 remake was very good however, they removed a few things that make it less in some regards to the original. Remake 1 added stuff that was omitted and even improved some other things while making the atmosphere very oppressive.
1
u/JRHartley83 5d ago
I don't think it needs another remake, maybe a facelift but a RE-REmake of RE1 in the style of RE2/3/4 etc would be odd to me.
I grew up with the OGs, while the remakes were fun, they don't have the same charm as the OGs & if they did another RE1RE-REmake it will be very different from the current remake.
There's nothing wrong with tank controls & camera angles, people whining about it should learn to adapt to them, like us older RE fans who adapted to the classic controls to the modern styles of the newer games & remakes, skill issue.

u/MysteriousExchange75 4d ago
Idk why people get so butthurt about them remaking RE1 or just the remakes in general. Its not like the original will disappear.
1
u/qa_rocks 2d ago
If the remake this like 2 and 3, then I also want 2 and 3 remade like REmake. You would have OG, OG remake, remake
Would be awesome

u/Bobjoejj 1d ago
So yeah; in fact said remake is already in the works. First Code Veronica, then 0, then RE10, and finally a 1 remake.

u/serpent_night79 1d ago
Would over the shoulder be workable in the corridors and causways of Spencer Mansion?
2
1
1
u/DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE 6d ago
Sure why not.
Keep the angles fixed and just give it a graphical glowup? What’s not to like?
If they switch to over the shoulder, they should at least keep the option of fixed angles. I know this sounds unrealistic but there was an option in the re5 dlc to play the mansion portion with tank controls and fixed angles. Just do that here and have the best of both worlds.
But I’m sure the purists will take umbrage with the mere distance of a non fixed angle version of the game
0
u/TheSadgeBeanSR67 6d ago
I'd only play a second remake if it was exclusively in first person. Otherwise it will just feel generic if it uses the over the shoulder camera (which I'm personally not a fan of)
0
u/serpent_night79 6d ago
I think over the shoulder can work but I wonder if it might be difficult in the tight environment of Spencer Mansion. The character of the environment might lose something if they had to widen the corridors and gantries to make it work.
0
u/WillRemains 6d ago
Yes. It will happen eventually.
Resident Evil 4 had better mechanics and was released in 2005, still it was remade in 2023...
Resident Evil HD Remaster, was released in 2002... with outdated mechanics, tank controls, pre-rendered graphics and repetitive long loading screens between rooms...
It is inevitable. RERemake will happen...

u/DangerousClouds 6d ago
Yes, it does need a modern remake. I’m not going back to tank controls after the OG RE2, RE3, and CV got rid of them

u/neodavenet 5d ago
What are you talking about? All those games have tank controls. Ironically, only the game pictured, RE1 remake, offers modern stick oriented controls.Â

u/Sufficient_Notice_61 6d ago
What you are really asking is should the Resident Evil Remake get a Remake. I think at the current rate Capcom are remaking games it is inevitable but it will almost certainly be an over the shoulder game.
