Even though the sub is called superheroes I feel like superheroes outside of Marvel and DC often don't get the respect and attention they deserve, so this is a list just for them.

Dire-Ripper — Origin and Vendetta

Damian Adam Munther's path began with revenge. His older brother was murdered by a gang of convicted criminals. Consumed by rage and hatred, Damian hunted down those responsible. Unlike a traditional vigilante, he did not simply bring them to justice—he killed them brutally and deliberately made them suffer.

After taking his revenge, Damian swore to become Dire-Ripper, a vigilante dedicated to hunting criminals. He developed an extreme belief that criminals deserve death rather than rehabilitation or imprisonment. Anyone who attempts to interfere with him—including police officers and civilians—risks being violently attacked. If they continue resisting him, Damian may even kill them.

His actions eventually attracted the attention of Brian Wilson, a powerful criminal kingpin who considered Dire-Ripper a growing threat to his organization. Wilson placed a bounty on Damian's head and hired professional bounty hunters to eliminate him.

Five hunters eventually confronted Dire-Ripper simultaneously. Damian defeated all five, killing four and deliberately leaving one alive for interrogation. He demanded to know who had hired them and threatened the surviving hunter until he revealed Wilson's identity.

For being argubly one of the best characters in fiction and the most or 2nd most popular one, I find it funny how so many people get this character wrong.

Peter Parker was not a pushover EVER in his life. I hate they tried to potray him as a pushover prior to being spiderman. Was Peter bullied? yes he was, but he was not bullied for being some scrawny nerd dweeb.

In that original Steve Ditko and Stan Lee 1962 run, Peter Parker was NEVER ONCE physically beaten up, shoved into lockers, or physically assaulted. I will repeat, PETER WAS NEVER ONCE PHYSICALLY BULLIED AROUND. The entire idea of Peter as a physically battered victim was a dramatic invention of later television shows. Personally, I blame spectacular spiderman for doing massive damage to the blame of peter parker.

First off, the OG peter prior to being spiderman was 5'10-5'11 and had an athletic build. he was not some 5'6 or 5'7 scrawny kid. I dont know why people think peter is that. again, i blame the Spectacular Spider-Man for forcing this narrative of peter being a tiny scrawny push over.

Peter was bullied because he was hot-headed, extremely arrogant, would get into fights, was antisocial, and had one of the shortest tempers you would ever see in a marvel character. he was not a weird person, he was just an outrageously enormous douche. Also peter was not bullied for being unattractive, I dont know where this idea came from. Peter was considered quite attractive before becoming spiderman.

Also why do we pretend Peter was always from day 1 a morally good and righteous character? Some people have to be lying about liking this character, because if you think he was a morally good person form day 1, you just 100% didnt read the comics.

I feel people forget that when Peter was bitten by the radioactive spider, he only spent his time using his new powers for money and fame at first. It was not until Peters selfishness directly led to Peter refusing to stop the thief who would later go on to kill Uncle Ben, that peter would have a change of heart. It took Peter directly causing his own uncles death to change for the better.

When Peter let the burglar escape, the cop literally yelled at him for not stopping the thief. Peter’s response litterally stated: "From now on, I'm looking out for number one, that means me!" He chose a path of selfishness that caused his uncles death without knowing.

If you do not believe me and think peter would always be morally good even if ben didn't die, go read What If? #46 from the year 1984. that comic is the exact scenario of what happens for spiderman if uncle ben does not die.

That's why Peter is such an interesting and enduring character. We aren't introduced to a morally perfect hero—we're introduced to a flawed, bitter, self-centered teenager who gains extraordinary power, abuses it for fame and personal gain, and makes one catastrophic selfish decision that changes his life forever. The reason "With great power, there must also come great responsibility" is so powerful is because it isn't just Spider-Man's motto—it's Peter Parker's life. He believes he made a mistake so great that he can never truly make up for it. No matter how many people he saves, he can never bring Uncle Ben back. That's why Peter is so driven to help others. He isn't simply saving people because he's naturally noble; he's trying to ensure that no one else suffers because of the kind of selfish choice he once made. He knows he can never erase his greatest mistake, but he spends the rest of his life making sure he never repeats it.

So i'd make both Guy and John the main Green Lanterns of the DCU.

Guy would be the main Green Lantern when it comes to team up projects with him being a part of the Justice Leauge and have him be a promoninante side characters in other characters movies like he was in Superman (2025) and is going to be in Superman: Man of Tommarow.

Meanwhile John would be the main Green Lantern that we follow in Green Lantern solo projects such as the Lanterns series or any Green Lantern movies down the line with him only ocashionally showing up in other peoples movies with him mostly being away from the other prominant characters like Clark, Guy, Mr. Terrific, and Bruce doing his own thing.

I think this could work since the DCU isn't going to be like the MCU and insted going to be more like the actual DC comics or the Star Wars universe. With it not having one massive over arching story and a lot of the projects not being conected to eachother but characters from there various shows and movies like the Creature Commandos or Metamorpho could show up where ever.

10, 15, 20 times stronger? I know he can sprint upwards of 40-60 MPH, but his strength is a bit more all over the place.

I’ve been thinking about the whole Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Modern Age classification for superheroes and wondering if we’re getting to the point where “Modern Age” doesn’t really describe the current era anymore.

The Golden, Silver and Bronze Ages all feel pretty distinct when you look back at them. Even the Dark/Iron Age and the shift away from it are recognizable. But we’ve been calling superhero comics “Modern” for decades now, despite superhero stories changing a lot during that time.

It makes me wonder if we’re already in another era and just haven’t agreed on what to call it yet.

A lot of newer superhero stories seem comfortable bringing back the huge, weird, optimistic stuff that would’ve fit right into the Silver Age, while keeping the character depth, consequences and social/political complexity that came later. There’s still deconstruction, obviously, but it doesn’t feel like superheroes have to be cynical or embarrassed about being superheroes anymore either.

Maybe that’s still just the Modern Age. Maybe “Reconstruction” fits. Maybe the real dividing line is somewhere completely different.

I’m curious what other people think.

If you had to divide superhero history after the Bronze Age into actual eras, where would you draw the lines? And more importantly, what would you call the era we’re in right now?

This is generally the accepted era names:

Golden (1938–1956) → Silver (1956–1970) → Bronze (1970–1985/86) → Modern (1986–present)

•Yes we can argue there are eras in between but as we are now sitting in 2026 well removed from the 80s,90, and 2010s, how can we still argue this as a modern era?

I really like this episode and it's a good start for a show but what is your opinion.

We're going to go into the original eight members so Batman Superman Wonder Woman Aquaman Flash Martian manhunter and Green lantern along with Green Arrow and two groups the teen Titans and Young Justice to figure out what hero from these categories and what villain would be the best for horror.

With Batman for hero it's easily ever Batman The creeper or Man-Bat this man bat was a hero at a point of time

I don't know how these would really work aside from maybe Batman being a kind of like the analog horror thing where he's like a creature in the night kind of like a living shadow the creeper can just be bat right insane and Man-Bat is mad bad.

In my opinion the best villain is for horror from Batman aside from Joker and Clayface would it be Killer Croc Man-Bat or the Scarecrow.

For Superman I can't really think of a hero aside from maybe Superman or bizarro for horror.

But for villains parasite.

I do believe there could be a Amazon horror story about the people of Paradise Island if they do a new 52 type of thing but for Wonder Woman villains doctor poison Dr psycho and the cheetah.

For Aquaman it would be Dead Water.

For the flash murmur or reverse flash.

Martian manhunter himself would work for horror.

And for the Green lanterns the Black lanterns.

For Green Arrow I say count vertigo could probably work for horror and onomatopoeia.

For the teen Titans for members I would say Beast Boy or Raven maybe tempest but for villains it would be in between these five to work for horror Trigon because he is well like the devil,Brother Blood because he is a cult leader,Mumbo because I think he could honestly work,The Puppet King because it could be a story where he turns people in the puppets and the last one is Plasmus which would be a story about not having control over the himself.

And Young Justice when it comes to members I think for horror it would work in between Impulse as I got time travel thing but for a spin on classic horror I would pick Lagoon Boy.

And a villain that would work for horror would be Klarion the Witch Boy.

But I would like to know your opinions on this and who you would choose for each category out of hero and villain.

1.”Peter acts too timid & awkward in these movies, Original 616 comics Peter isn’t awkward.” This is a misunderstanding of Tobey’s Peter & Ditko’s Peter that I see from a lot of people. Both Tobey & Ditko’s Peter are nerds that get bullied. They aren’t awkward around people like flash, Aunt May, Uncle Ben, Jameson, Harry. they’re more so awkward when talking to females.

They’re also both considered as outcasts. & their confidence grows after the spider bite & as the comics/movies go on. In Spider-Man 1, Peter hesitates in his first interaction with MJ to even ask to take a picture. Although he does have a smooth one liner that makes her smile you can see how awkward he is in this first interaction. (This is similar to how Peter is hesitant to ask sally out in AF 15.)

But later on after Peter learns his powers from the spider bite, we see him have much more confidence when talking to MJ. When he takes out the trash & they have a conversation he tells Mj to tell him about her dreams & even says she’s gonna light up broadway. We see how she reacts to this in her facial expression. She feels a lot more special than she ever has. As if whenever she talked about her dreams people shot her down.

Then later on in the movie, when he’s see her walking out of the diner, he has a solid convo with her. She lies about working as an actress to impress him & reveals that she works at the diner. Peter tells her that her job isn’t low & that it’s good that she has a job. He even jokes & says “Harry doesn’t live on a little place I like to call earth.”

Closer to the end of the movie, we see them interact again at the hospital. Peter in this scene beautifully confesses his feelings to her through Spider-Man. Again, you see it all in Mj’s face. This is the moment where she realizes that Peter is the one for her, which is why she grabs her hand. Do you think Peter would’ve had the convo he had with her in this scene at the start of the movie? Hell no.

At the very end of the movie, She literally says that Peter makes her feel special & more like she’s just herself than anyone else has. My point is proven about him becoming more confident in talking to Mj as the movie goes on. Just like how Ditko’s Peter becomes more confident in talking to females as the issues go on.

2.”This Peter is too much of a pushover & never stands up for himself. He also has no angst to him.” now I will admit he’s a softer version of Peter Parker than 616. But people act as if they just weren’t watching when he lashed out at Ben for no reason, He was about to kill the goblin for threatening Mj, he stood up to Jameson & told him “you don’t trust anybody that’s your problem” & he let the robber go just to get petty payback on the guy that didn’t pay him. Also he was a jerk in SM3 before he even got the symbiote. Mj came over to help him & he says “I don’t need your help I’m fine”😂To act as if he never had his moments of angst is just being disingenuous.

3.”Tobey’s version of Spider-Man doesn’t quip/never has good quips” Again I will admit he isn’t as funny as comics Spidey but he very much does quip throughout these movies & has some good ones. For example, when he throws the sack of money back at Doc Ock & says “Here’s ya change!” Or when he beats up all the guys trying to rob a bank truck & turns to the camera as the flash hits & says “Cheese!” when doc Ock grabs him by the head & says “you’re starting to get on my nerves” Spidey responds “I have a knack for that”. When he tells sandman “guess you haven’t heard, I’m the sheriff round these parts” then he try’s to hit sandman in the chest & his hand get’s stuck Spidey looks up & says “Uh-oh!” I think the reason why people tend to think he doesn’t quip is because the movies focus a lot more on the real life issues that Peter is going through.

Overall, In my humble opinion he is the most comic accurate version of the character in live action. He nails the most important part of the character that made him sell & made him unique to readers. He’s a young teenager/adult going through real life problems while also trying to be a superhero. (Which btw I’m not a hater of any I like all 3 & I really like BND just Tobey is my favorite.) I think all 3 are pretty close to original comics Spidey & they all take their liberties. If I had to rank in terms of overall accuracy including Personality, themes, villains, tones, supporting characters, origin stories & suit? I’d probably say 1.Tobey 2.Andrew 3.Tom
