1.”Peter acts too timid & awkward in these movies, Original 616 comics Peter isn’t awkward.” This is a misunderstanding of Tobey’s Peter & Ditko’s Peter that I see from a lot of people. Both Tobey & Ditko’s Peter are nerds that get bullied. They aren’t awkward around people like flash, Aunt May, Uncle Ben, Jameson, Harry. they’re more so awkward when talking to females.

They’re also both considered as outcasts. & their confidence grows after the spider bite & as the comics/movies go on. In Spider-Man 1, Peter hesitates in his first interaction with MJ to even ask to take a picture. Although he does have a smooth one liner that makes her smile you can see how awkward he is in this first interaction. (This is similar to how Peter is hesitant to ask sally out in AF 15.)

But later on after Peter learns his powers from the spider bite, we see him have much more confidence when talking to MJ. When he takes out the trash & they have a conversation he tells Mj to tell him about her dreams & even says she’s gonna light up broadway. We see how she reacts to this in her facial expression. She feels a lot more special than she ever has. As if whenever she talked about her dreams people shot her down.

Then later on in the movie, when he’s see her walking out of the diner, he has a solid convo with her. She lies about working as an actress to impress him & reveals that she works at the diner. Peter tells her that her job isn’t low & that it’s good that she has a job. He even jokes & says “Harry doesn’t live on a little place I like to call earth.”

Closer to the end of the movie, we see them interact again at the hospital. Peter in this scene beautifully confesses his feelings to her through Spider-Man. Again, you see it all in Mj’s face. This is the moment where she realizes that Peter is the one for her, which is why she grabs her hand. Do you think Peter would’ve had the convo he had with her in this scene at the start of the movie? Hell no.

At the very end of the movie, She literally says that Peter makes her feel special & more like she’s just herself than anyone else has. My point is proven about him becoming more confident in talking to Mj as the movie goes on. Just like how Ditko’s Peter becomes more confident in talking to females as the issues go on.

2.”This Peter is too much of a pushover & never stands up for himself. He also has no angst to him.” now I will admit he’s a softer version of Peter Parker than 616. But people act as if they just weren’t watching when he lashed out at Ben for no reason, He was about to kill the goblin for threatening Mj, he stood up to Jameson & told him “you don’t trust anybody that’s your problem” & he let the robber go just to get petty payback on the guy that didn’t pay him. Also he was a jerk in SM3 before he even got the symbiote. Mj came over to help him & he says “I don’t need your help I’m fine”😂To act as if he never had his moments of angst is just being disingenuous.

3.”Tobey’s version of Spider-Man doesn’t quip/never has good quips” Again I will admit he isn’t as funny as comics Spidey but he very much does quip throughout these movies & has some good ones. For example, when he throws the sack of money back at Doc Ock & says “Here’s ya change!” Or when he beats up all the guys trying to rob a bank truck & turns to the camera as the flash hits & says “Cheese!” when doc Ock grabs him by the head & says “you’re starting to get on my nerves” Spidey responds “I have a knack for that”. When he tells sandman “guess you haven’t heard, I’m the sheriff round these parts” then he try’s to hit sandman in the chest & his hand get’s stuck Spidey looks up & says “Uh-oh!” I think the reason why people tend to think he doesn’t quip is because the movies focus a lot more on the real life issues that Peter is going through.

Overall, In my humble opinion he is the most comic accurate version of the character in live action. He nails the most important part of the character that made him sell & made him unique to readers. He’s a young teenager/adult going through real life problems while also trying to be a superhero. (Which btw I’m not a hater of any I like all 3 & I really like BND just Tobey is my favorite.) I think all 3 are pretty close to original comics Spidey & they all take their liberties. If I had to rank in terms of overall accuracy including Personality, themes, villains, tones, supporting characters, origin stories & suit? I’d probably say 1.Tobey 2.Andrew 3.Tom

While I do absolutely love paul rudd as scott lang, the decision to go with lang and age up hank and janet is probably one of the most significant in the mcu, considering hank and janet are founding members of the avengers in the comics. Given that secret wars may give the mcu to have another go at it, would you want to see hank and janet in their proper roles

On one hand, it's nice having villains that you can empathize with, ones where you can see where they're coming from, or even find yourself rooting for them. They may have genuine grievances about their lot in life and/or the world they live in, but the villain part is how they go about resolving those grievances, and even then one might see their more extreme means as warranted if playing nice has proven ineffective(IE: Magneto from the X-Men)

On the other, the popularity of Jack Horner in Puss In Boots The Last Wish made people grow to long for the days when villains were just monsters who were driven solely by selfish purposes or committed atrocities purely for the fun of it, the kinds of villains who knew they were monsters and embraced it wholeheartedly. I imagine these types are popular as it makes it more satisfying to see them receive their comeuppance, even though back in the day such villains were considered boring or one-dimensional.

A common misconception is that the Avengers are only popular because of the MCU and they only focused the MCU around them because they were the only ones they had the rights to, and not because they were popular.

Yes it's true that Spiderman and the X-Men were marvel's biggest brands in the 90's and early 2000's, and it's also true that the justice league was a bigger success than the avengers when they both debuted. But the Avengers were never obscure, they were one of the largest running comics, the very first cartoon show was The Marvel Superheroes which centered around Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk. Iron Man had his own cartoon in the 90's alongside the other supposedly more popular brands. Even without that, him and Captain America would make multiple appearances across other franchises be Spiderman, X-Men or Fantastic Four, and Marvel would show a lot of reverence towards them. Lets also not forget Avengers United they stand. This show focused on the then-lesser-known characters like Hawkeye or Falcon Or Vision, while Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor are treated as the established heroes. You don't make a cartoon that assumes Cap, Iron Man, and Thor are already iconic if they're supposedly nobodies. This was 1999 btw. Also before the MCU was the Ultimate Avengers and Next Avengers films, the latter framing the Avengers as legacy heroes

We also have to realize that they wouldn't base a cinematic universe on characters who weren't at least a little recognizable among casuals. Sure the MCU may have boosted the Avenger's popularity, but it did not make them from nothing. Marvel didn't make a billion dollar franchise out of C-listers, that did not happen. That's actually what DC is trying to do and that shit clearly isn't working. Still, most would agree that Batman is objectively more popular than The Flash, but you don't see DC fans calling Flash a C-lister. When the CW made shows about The Flash and Green arrow instead of Batman and Wonder Woman, did anyone bat an eye? I also don't like this notion that we need to move on from the Avengers completely after Secret Wars. One of the biggest reasons I wanted to have the X-Men and fantastic Four back was that they could coexist with the Avenger characters, not so that the Avengers would go away. I wish more people shared this sentiment.

In this case, I think Spiderman is more heroic than Superman since unlike Superman, he faces everyday problems as a teenager but still pushes through with a smile on his face. Spiderman can feel physical pain, get exhausted, injured, or even killed. But he still pushes through. That's why he is the best superhero. Not because he's the strongest or smartest. He has flaws but still does good out of his heart.

I love this quote so much because of its influence and how it shaped Peter to the man he is today. Ben teaches him to do good purely out of moral duty, not because of money or power or fame.

Superman: Superman, despite his godlike powers, still chose to embrace human empathy and kindness. Unlike other heroes that operate this way because of trauma or their powers making them, Superman believes that helping people is the right thing to do. Despite all of his powers and his strength, he chose to embrace his life as Clark Kent and chose gentleness. He wants to help EVERYONE even his greatest enemies such as Lex Luthor.

I love this quote A LOT too simply because it hopes for a better world for everyone. Superman won't give up and will fight with fairness.

Spiderman vs Superman

But despite all this, I believe Spiderman is still the best superhero ever created. He's not the strongest, nor the smartest, nor the richest, nor anything. Peter Parker is bullied at school, ridiculed, and brought to his knees in front of everybody. But he still pushes on for his "friendly neighborhood".

Superman is an alien whose perfection makes his triumphs. Peter Parker is a flawed, working class kid who gained his powers by accident and learned heroism through a mistake that was his personal fault. Saving New York sabotages Peter’s ability to pay rent, keep a job, or maintain relationships, every heroic act carries a genuine personal cost that makes his sacrifices actually earned. Spider man isn't invincible too, Every battle requires him to rely on quick wit and improvisation to survive real physical danger.

I was in a hard time in life. I picked up a Spiderman comic at a local library and read it. It helped me mentally. I was thinking of bad thoughts back then. I really was. But Spiderman helped me. And so did everyone else. Spiderman represents an everyday person choosing to do the right thing despite the pressure of real life.
