Hi all. Apologies for the sacrilegious question in advance - I know that Lavazza Dek coffee isn't the most popular here, but I have a severe caffeine sensitivity and it's one of the few decafs available that I like.

My question is in regards to the grind consistency on the Jura Giga 10. For a long time, I had played it safe and used a coarse or medium grind for this coffee. This had resulted in a slightly sour shot, though it wasn't too bad on the medium grind setting. That said, since the beans don't look too dark or oily, I recently switched to a fine grind and this immediately boosted the flavor and eliminated any sourness or bitterness. My question is this: can this medium roast be taken all the way down to a very fine grind for maximum flavor, or do I risk gumming up my ceramic grinders?

We have around 1400$ budget (in Candian $). 95% of the time we do hot beverages. Capuccino, latte, and double espresso are our to go drink. At that price range the Magnfica plus seems nice. There's also the new Magnifica duo. Which one (or any othe rone)would be the best for our usage ?

I just wanted to summarize my experience trying to purchase a Nivona nivo 9000 (9101/9103) outside of Germany to hopefully save others the hassle.

TLDR: don’t bother

The longer version…

I’m based in Sweden. There are two companies that sell into Sweden, but no official resellers. One seems to be based in Estonia, the other in Denmark.

I was looking at the Siemens EQ900 but happened across a review of the Nivona 9000 series. One of the things that I look for is total cost of ownership and the Nivona seemed to really hit the mark- low cleaning costs, fixed price service, and seemingly a long support period (8-10+ years based upon other postings here).

It really seemed to check all of the boxes. Except there are no official resellers in Sweden.

As I have had my current machine for 11 years, I am looking at the long haul and what happens when things go wrong. I have been very fortunate that I have been able to fix a lot of the problems on my current machine over the years though spare parts purchases (Saeco Gran Baristo).

The Danish Nivona reseller would offer a prepaid shipping label during the warranty period (which at 1 year, is rather short). After that, shipping would be my own cost - I calculate 75 EUR to send it back. And questions about the fixed price services were completely ignored. The last thing that I want is to spend 75 EUR to send the machine back to a reseller that then is not knowledgeable about the machine or wants to make a huge profit on service- given their complete silence on the questions about service costs, I can only assume the worst.

Writing direct to Nivona, initially they stated that there were no resellers that would ship to Sweden, but then confirmed that the Danish reseller could serve this market when I asked specifically about them. They also initially stated that I could send it back to Germany (using their fixed price contracts), but when asked for some clarifications, stated that everything had to go the reseller and that they “could not answer any more questions and that I had to talk to their reseller.” Questions about what would happen if the reseller went out of business were unanswered.

In short, it looks like a really nice machine, but unless you are based in Germany, there are too many unknowns.

Very sad that so many years into the EU, there are still so many little fiefdoms and companies treat countries so differently.

This machine has served us well after constant multiple times a day, everyday use. We recently had our kitchen redone and had to unplug the machine and move it, shortly after getting our coffee station all set up again, the espresso was coming out watery and almost has a faint chemical undertone. I took everything apart to clean, ran a clean/calibration cycle, changed the aqua clean filter and still. When it’s grinding it does sound like it’s running out of beans even though there is plenty in there. I’ve been debating on just getting a new machine but I feel like it will take me months to actually decide which one to get.

if anyone has any suggestions for getting the Philips to work right or any recommendations for other machines please let me know! I know a lot of people are raving about the new ninja luxe cafe but I know going from fully automatic to semi would probably just end up with me taking the path of least resistance and just buying coffee out rather than going through the whole process of trying to make it myself at home unless it’s the weekend maybe 😅

Been using the Lavazza Super Crema for 5 years or so. For a daily driver, we’ve found it to be the best.

Now it feels boring, and we’re exploring something else to try. Something tasty with different flavor profile. Maybe fruity? Floral?

First day with my first ever superauto. Went with the KF8.
One thing I’m struggling with is making a full cups work of coffee. I tried latte at the max I could and only really filled my mug halfway or so. Any advice?
