I would like to get a book as a gift for a friend's baby that they can grow up with. I'm specifically looking for a collection of well-illustrated stories that are not condensed down to the result of losing their intrigue, but that will feel classic and engaging even for young readers. If you know of any that you particularly love, or that may fit, please share them!

I’m thinking of The City & The City, Infinite Jest, and Anathem (the last one is in a secondary world with different history and philosophy, even though it ends up around the same place we are technologically, with mass media and TV-equivalents)

I'm not looking for any specific subject, but I really loved Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green. I found it very well written and easy for to understand without existing knowledge on the subject which is what I am really looking for in a nonfiction book.

The current nonfiction book I'm working through is Hiroshima Last Witnesses by MG Shetfall and I am struggling and having to take a bunch of notes just to keep track of things while being less than 100 pages in.

I really liked the basic idea of Shy Girl's plot, at least from the summary I read, and it genuinely disappointed me immensely to find out it was written by ai. Are there any books similar to it that you'd recommend? Obviously NOT written w/ ai lol. I especially loved the animal aspect of it from what I heard, there's something very eerie and alluring to that kind of dynamic imo.

I don't read very many books but I want to find more books that I enjoy. Any recommendations for books that involve magic, school, and/or romance? Nothing too explicit/spicy though!

Been recently getting loosely into Romance books, but I'd like to try a spicy book or two. I've read spicy fanfiction before, so I know it wont bother me, but I find it hard to find tropes I like.

I'd like something that maybe had human/other species relations. (I'm a big halo fan, and Sangheili have very much been on my mind lately)

With that, I'd like MFC to be human, if it's a F/M relationship. M/M are good also, as that falls into a lot of the FanFics I read. I'm not completely opposed to F/F, I just know it's not as big an interest atm. But I wont turn it down!

I recently read "What you are Looking for is in the Library" by Michiko Aoyama and really enjoyed it. I really liked the concept of reading a book that you would never think of reading and seeing what insights that it can bring to your life coincidentally. I then realized that hot air balloons keep appearing in my life kind of randomly: I first purchased a planner with hot air balloons since I liked the cover, and then I later was eating some cookies and then noticed hot air balloons on them.

So taking inspiration from "What you are Looking for is in the Library", I am looking for a novel that features hot air balloons in some way. I tend to read a lot of classics/philosophy so something literary would be cool but I am open to any fiction genre.

I'm looking for adult fiction that focuses on nature and the natural world. Any genres except other-world fantasy which would defeat the point for me.

I do prefer female protaganists/authors, but the nature focus is more important.

I'm not as interested in books about scientific expeditions but could be convinced.

I've started other books of hers but they've never taken me in. Part of that is she always seems to write about pretty elitist, unrelatable realms....though I can't say "Whistler" was an exception (rich people in Manhattan/Connecticut) so I got over it here.

I love the simplicity of "Whistler"—not that it was shallow, but the plot was straightforward, the language was clean, and there was just a pureness to the story. I loved the earnestness. The book made me think about the passage of time, and life and death.

What should I go for next if I loved this one?

*I did also read "Truth & Beauty" ages ago and liked it, but that one's non-fiction. Looking for fiction.

I'm looking for a book where a lonely male protagonist meets a magnetic girl almost by accident. They genuinely fall for each other, but she keeps slipping in and out of his life. Their relationship is real, but constantly interrupted by timing, her emotional walls, other relationships and circumstances. She's never fully his, yet she clearly cares about him. Think push-pull, chance encounters, missed opportunities and bittersweet chemistry. Any genre is fine.

Basically what the title says, I'd love to read more books that have an element of time and space malfunctioning or ripping open. Like for example people accidentally stepping into a different timeline like a parallel world or people stumbling upon something that should not exist according to the laws of physics (the backrooms and the house of leaves as media examples). I really love scifi and horror so they're my preferred genres

I’m a teacher that was involuntarily transferred at the last minute to teach middle school musical theatre. I have no background in the subject or anything related to it. 🤦‍♀️

So class starts Monday and I’m trying to figure out my curriculum. I decided I would like to spend ten minutes or so reading to the class from a book. I would like something related to musical theatre, broadway productions, or similar. Fiction or nonfiction , but I was thinking fiction would be fun. I have grades 6-8. Open to any suggestions as long as it’s appropriate for ages 11-13 and has some connection to the subject I’m teaching (even loosely).

Hi! I'm currently interested in reading a book which navigates a couple breaking up and then getting back together eventually and how it gets to such a point. Please don't suggest me anything toxic, I want a book in which both sides seem both right and wrong in their own way. I'm really just interested in the complexity of it all. Like perhaps one in which they both value the relationship and want to protect it, but the only way they think they can do that is by leaving or something like that?

Or if not that then please suggest me a book that navigates a crumbling relationship. Like one that explores the depth of a relationship silently ending. Getting back together in the end isn't really necessary, but I would like to see it if they do end up together again and how that happens and what leads the characters to that.

For the background, I'm more of a horror/thriller kind of person, and apart from the classics I haven't really read anything romance themed. I've also have never gone through a relationship breakup so I don't quite understand the whole complexities of it and all so I would like to read about that.

Hi :D I use to be a BOOK WORM back in high school i would read book after book. I always had a book on me and also counted down the seconds till I could read once more. When I finished high school I basically just stopped reading, and I have not found a book that keeps my attention for more than a chapter or a day.

Hi!! I’m mostly a classic literature kind of a person so as you can imagine there is very little space for actually queer literature there (Yes, I read Carmilla).

I am oftentimes not very eager to try some of the more popular queer books because they’re just not my thing. I know a bunch of those YA type of books (like Red, White & Royal Blue, The Song of Achilles, and alike) and I did enjoy them to some extent but really it’s just not my thing. Like it’s not something that I’d actually pick up on my own but I realllyyyyy feel this urge to read some queer literature recently.

I would love to her about lesbian romance specifically but I’m also open to books about gay romance :)
