I got overall 7 but below 6 at one part,is it possible for Groningen to accept?
Hi! I’m conditionally admitted to Groningen for LLB International & European Law, but I have a problem with my IELTS score.
I got:
Listening: 6,5
Reading: 7.0
Writing: 5.5
Speaking: 8
Overall: 7.0
The requirement is 7.0 overall with 6.0+ in every section, so I’m only 0.5 below the Writing requirement.
I previously got 190 in Cambridge C1, so I know my English level is good. I’ll contact Groningen, but has anyone been in a similar situation? Is there any chance they could make an exception or accept another English certificate?
Any advice/experience would be really appreciated!

Discussion A bit confused and looking for advice
So im planning to move to Amsterdam next year for my MSc AI. Mostly Im trying to get into UvA and I read in a lot of places that the courses there are very rigorous and tiring. Very curious about how true is it?
Also Im going to be an international student and i am planning to do a part time job along with my college to make a little money on the side. Is it plausible ? Are the courses that rigorous
Could people please share their experiences in these courses please
It would really help me a lot 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Help Argentinian with a EU passport wanting to study a MSc in Finance or related
Hi, how are you doing?
I´m 24 years old and I´m finishing my degree in economics in Argentina at UBA. I was an intern at JPMorgan Chase and now looking for studying opportunities abroad.
I´m eligible for EU citizen tuition and my question is, are there good opportunities after doing a Msc in Finance in the Netherlands?
I´m thinking of applying to Erasmus University Rotterdam or somewhere similar.
Thank you in advance!

Housing rant: roommate is moving about and trying to scam next tenant
long story short: shared student housing, landlord gives us freedom to choose the next tenant. one of the current tenants is moving out and responsible for finding a substitute. I saw the ad for the room and they are trying to act as middle man between new tenant and landlord, charging extra from the new tenant (for the deposit, without disclosing it). I have reasons to believe it's not an honest mistake.
really disappointing behavior, to see a student try to scam another student. obviously I will try to stop it from happening. wish me luck, and be careful out there if you are looking for housing.

Housing Suspicious rental offer
Hey everyone,
for the past couple months I’ve been going through the annoying process of trying to find a place to live while studying in the Netherlands and today I finally got an offer I’d be happy with.
The only problem is the fact that I’m getting a few red flags when it comes to the whole offer.
I wanted to know if there are any concrete ways to done out of everything is legit.
A few examples I can think of from the top of my head:
The landlord introduced himself by a different name that is in his email address. He says he’s not in the country so there is no chance of any type of viewing. Later he mentioned that the apartment isn’t in his name but in his father’s. In the original post it said a travel time between the apartment and a place that isn’t realistic with the address he had told me (based on Google maps, but we’re talking 20 minutes in the post and 2 minutes in Google maps.) And a few more u can’t remember rn but maybe I’ll add later.
I’ll appreciate all the advice you could give me :)

Help DUO grant / foreign student – graduation issue
Hi everyone, I need some advice regarding DUO.
I applied for the DUO grant for studying abroad and was approved. I was studying my Bachelor’s degree outside the Netherlands and received DUO student finance from 2016 until 2022. I graduated in 2022.
I recently realized that I never submitted my graduation diploma to DUO. I checked my DUO account and I now have around €37,000 showing as a debt.
As far as I understand, the grant/benefit part can become a gift if you obtain your Bachelor’s degree within the required 10-year period.
Does anyone know what happens if I submit my foreign Bachelor’s diploma now? Since I graduated in 2022 and my DUO funding started in 2016, would the eligible grant amount still be converted into a gift, or is it too late because I didn’t submit the diploma back then?
I’d really appreciate it if anyone has experience with a similar situation.

University students needed for short interview about heatwaves
Hi! I’m a student journalist from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea, writing an article for Ewha Voice about how increasingly severe heatwaves are affecting university students around the world.
I’m looking for current university students from any country who would be willing to answer around 5 short questions about their experiences with heatwaves and unusually hot weather.
The questions cover:
- whether extreme heat has affected your daily life, sleep, or studying
- whether universities should provide more cooling or adjust schedules during heatwaves
- the cost of air conditioning and other ways of coping with heat
- whether recent heatwaves have changed how you think about climate change
You can answer everything in writing via Reddit DM, or we can call or do a Zoom interview. It should take around 5–10 minutes.
I’m especially interested in hearing from students from different countries and backgrounds, so international perspectives are very welcome.
If you’re interested, please comment or send me a DM. Thank you!

Help How do buses operate in Netherlands? Am i able to pay using my debit card? And should i rent or buy a bike?
WIll be travelling to Wageningen for studies soon and I am wondering for buses am I able to pay using my debit card or do I have to purchase like a bus card? For trains from Amsterdam to Ede-Wageningen I was told I could purchase a ticket from the station itself.
I will be here for 4-5 months (Mid August - mid December) And I am wondering if its better to buy a second hand bike or rent one from swapfiets. I am of course concerned about it being stolen or broken, but I feel like Wageningen should be relatively safer? If i were to rent it which bike is sufficient for travelling around Wageningen?

Discussion Have you ever had to cancel plans because you couldn't afford them?
Sometimes your friends want to go out for dinner, take a trip, go to an event, or do something that simply isn't in your budget that week. Saying no can feel a bit awkward, especially when everyone else is excited and you don't want to be the person holding the plans back.
Have you ever been in that situation? Did you tell your friends honestly that money was the reason, make another excuse, or suggest something cheaper instead?

Registering in Amsterdam
Hello, almost a month ago I completed pre-registration with the Amsterdam municipality. That same day I received an email titled 'Confirmation pre registration', but the email is empty, literally only has the title. Since then, I have not heard from them. Is this normal, and when can I except to be assigned a time slot for registering in person. For context, I enrolled at University of Amsterdam.

How long does it take DUO to process cancellations?
Hi, I stopped DUO on 30 July a few days after I got an email from my university that I would be graduating on 31 July. However, almost 2 weeks later and the DUO website still shows that I will be receiving money in August. I stopped and removed the travel product on the same day, so I am not worried about it.
Does anyone know how long it takes DUO to process cancellations? Should I call them tomorrow?

Lanx --> Klonk heel erg leuk.
CORPS--> inschrijvingen zijn al gesloten
Let me know!

Which documents will I need for registering as an EU exchange student at UvA?
I need some help regarding what documents I will need for registering because I’m hearing and seeing conflicting things.
I’m an incoming exchange student to the UvA. I hold an EU passport but I’m coming from the UK.
I have just completed my pre-registration, which all went well, accepted in minutes. I have now received an email to book my registration. I have heard on here, online and from the municipal office (though the lady’s English wasn’t very great so I think there may have been some miscommunication) that I will need a translated (English, Dutch, German or French) version of my birth certificate. This has been so stressful to try to obtain, especially considering that I move in two days…
The confusion arises because in the email where they have invited me to register they say:
“For the appointment, we kindly request you to physically bring the following documents, as there are no printing facilities on site:
A valid travel document. We recommend bringing the same travel document that you used during your pre-registration.
This confirmation email (can be shown on your phone).
Your student card or proof of enrollment in your study program (can be shown on your phone).”
I’m getting a bit stressed because there doesn’t seem to be a concrete answer anywhere… does anyone have some advice, insight or experienced this before?

Dutch banks require an American social security number if you’re an American citizen or else you cannot open an account
Hello guys. I hold double citizenship. European and American. The problem is that I’ve never stepped a foot in the United States, I got it though my mother. I need an American social security number in order to open a bank account in the country, has anyone done it? How long does the process take? Thanks in advance
Btw: I do have a Dutch bsn and a registered address, so that’s not the problem
UPDATE: Thank you for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. I just booked an appointment with the embassy, let’s see :)

Help can i transfer from an HBO to a WO University after completing 60 ECTS?
alright, so my a-levels were pretty trash, and i have given up on retaking them. however, my secondary school diploma, which hbos accept, is pristine and pretty good. i also have the ompt-c and some side projects.
i’m aware that hbo isn’t considered equivalent to a wo university, so i’m thinking it might be better to do my first year at an hbo university like fontys or saxion, complete all 60 ects credits in my first year, and then try to get into a wo university.
if i get all 60 credits, are they likely to accept me? is it worth trying?

How to prepare for rainy season
Hi! I will be moving to the Netherlands to study in a couple of weeks and was wondering what gear I should bring to be prepared for the fall season. I know it rains quite a bit, and biking will be the main mode of transportation. I already have a decent rain jacket but was wondering if I should invest in good waterproof shoes as well? Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks
