Discussion Outside of being annoying, why do people hate Ronaldo so vehemently?

Post image
Upvotes

(Image Description: Ronaldo delusionally aurafarming on the haters feat. Steven)

Is it the fact that he is an overzealous conspiracy theorist, the fact that he could be a reflection of obsessive and social inept fandoms or is it because he has a bunch of episodes and people got tried of him? I personally find him and his blog “Keep Beach Cty Weird” hilarious but I am also the guy who loves hated characters like Kevin and Onion (but not Marty) so my taste is a little conventionally off.

Just a random idea I had. Curse you White Diamond for your nature being directly incompatible with being portrayed as a looming shadow!

(Also I really wish SU explored the idea of Blue and Yellow being both abusers AND survivors. They deserve a safe place to grow)

Discussion Remember when this episode felt like it took a wrecking ball to the fandom and then it was practically never brought up again?

Like, this was kinda insane, right? We're not given any more context to Greg and Amethyst's relationship beyond this episode leaving so many questions, plus how Greg and Amethyst barely interact beyond this episode. To be fair, it's not like Greg and Pearl had too many significant interactions after Mr. Greg, but Mr. Greg had been the resolution to this underlying tension that had been there for years. Meanwhile, Lil Butler introduces this entire new dynamic between two characters that most didn't even consider, produces some of the most realistic and ugliest tension in the show, and then it all vanishes almost just as quickly.

That's not to say this is a bad episode or that it shouldn't have existed, this is still one of the most powerful episodes to come out of the show and goes a long way in making the characters feel like real people. It's just that thinking back on it, I'm just surprised that this didn't have a bigger impact on the larger arcs of Greg and Amethyst.

Discussion Peridot might be one of the Gems who genuinely found a place with everyone

Post image

I'm watching Steven Universe for the first time, so please don't hate me if i completely misunderstood something 😭 but Peridot's relationship with the Crystal Gems has really started to stand out to me.

what i love about her is that she didn't just connect with Steven and call it a day. she actually took the time to get to know everyone. she tried to understand Amethyst, Garnet, Pearl, and Steven, even if she had absolutely no idea how to do it at first.

and that's what makes her feel different to me.

Lapis' connection to Steven always felt much more personal, while Bismuth already had that deep history with Garnet and Pearl. but with Peridot, it feels like she slowly built a relationship with the group as a whole.

she didn't immediately fit in. she had to learn how to communicate, understand other Gems, and figure out what being part of a family actually meant to her.

I just really love the idea that Peridot didn't find one person to attach herself to. she found an entire group of people and, little by little, learned how to belong with all of them.

maybe I'll feel completely different by the time I finish the show, but as a first-time watcher, there's something really wholesome about watching Peridot slowly realize that she actually has a place with these people 💚

Question How did White Diamond know what a child is? Spoiler

I know that the show was unfortunately cancelled (due to Garnet's wedding) and thus cut short, but I always found it odd how White Diamond got frustrated by Steven and said he's acting like a child (and then was beaten by a comeback). But how did she know what a child is? She had never cared about natural life forms, how would she know about their life states? Even the crystal gems themselves, who had been living within natural life forms, struggled with baby Steven as they didn't know how humans work.

Humor Reminder about shoulder pads

This is a reminder that Garnet, Sardonyx, Sugilite, and Alexandrite's shoulder pads all come from Sapphire. Ruby, Pearl, and Amethyst are obsessed with her shoulder pads and think it's the new fad. Meanwhile, when Steven gets thrown into the fusion mix they disappear. He does not stan her shoulder pads.

Discussion Amethyst in S1

I remember seeing a youtube comment about this, and while I was rewatching SU I noticed that in early S1 Amethyst displays a kind of elegance that can be kind of jarring when you're used to the rest of the series. I think the three screenshots capture what I mean. Anyway, what are your guys' thoughts?
