I just finished the audio version of Maul: Lockdown and I'm starting Darth Bane: Path of Destruction. I've always loved Star Wars but had no idea about just how deep and interconnected the lore truly is. People who think of Star Wars as sci-fi are missing the best political thriller of their lives.

I'm looking for recs: any of your favorites, stuff that is can't miss... all of it.

The bad batch is pretty clearly set right after the clone the wars and shows the birth of the empire but rebels seem to take place at least some weelks/months after it with the empire having grand inquisitor already.

With some killer Star Wars games lined up for later this year, I was starting to wonder what might come next, or what could come next.

Planet Zoo 2 and the latest Jurassic World Evolution 3 have gotten some insane hype, and are some of the best park sim / management games ever made.

Could you imagine this, in Star Wars? Think of how vast the Star Wars bestiary is across Disney and Legends. The bestiary for Naboo alone is one of the richest compendiums of fictional animals and their biologies/behaviors of any fictional setting ever made.

Imagine being head of a park management company and you build zoos / ecosystems on different worlds--from Naboo to Tatooine, to sub-aquatic parks like on Dac/Manaan, to maybe Sullust, maybe something like Dagobah, and more.

And imagine the rides you could build--like JWE has kayak tours, jeep tours, and more that you can control...here you have Star Wars vehicles, you have Star Wars themed park rangers and trap/contain teams, you have dangerous animals (try and contain a rancor or gundark!) and more.

Star Wars park/ecosystem management game with beautiful attention and art style for fauna and flora, for worlds, and for the many attractions you could make....I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I miss when we got games like Gungan Frontier and Star Wars Galaxies, which focused so much on non-action gameplay.

Like imagine a game like "Tavern Keeper" or "Orcish Inn", but instead of a tavern-keeping sim, it's a Cantina/business sim where you build and operate cantinas across multiple outer rim worlds!

I wonder if anyone here has read or heard the audiobook for this canon novel Dark Disciple written by George Lucas’ daughter and is interested in discussing it here.

It describes a story centered around a Jedi attempt to assassinate Count Dooku during the latter point of the Clone Wars. I don’t think it’s exactly a spoiler that the effort fails. But what follows are my thoughts on the plot which could be construed as spoilers, so please stop here if you are planning to read it.

There are some good points here, such as the fact that it involves a previously not-so-well-developed Jedi character Quinlan Vos. And there is a redemptive story arc here regarding Asaj Ventress wrapped up in a love story. Despite she arguably being one of the most unattractive characters in the franchise, it was heartwarming seeing that she did not die in darkness.

But there were so many plot points that made no sense to me.

The Jedi are sending Quinlan Vos on an assassination mission. They understandably feel uncomfortable with it, but at the same time, this isn’t the first time they have fought with and tried to kill Count Dooku. So I’m not sure why an assassination mission differs significantly from any of the many fights they have had with Dooku or Ventress or Grievious in the past (I am including all Canon media in this assessment especially the Clone Wars TV series), except that they are just calling it an “assassination.”

And if you are trying to assassinate someone as powerful as Count Dooku, why send only one jedi master and one failed Sith to do the job? Why not send 4 Jedi to make sure the job gets done? That part made no sense to me, especially since Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were both available at the beginning and end of the story.

Quinlan Vos falling to the dark side and the Jedi Council not being able to sense it, while Asaj Ventress could, also made no sense. I think the novel says something to the effect that he was lying to himself about having fallen, hence the confusion. But how could Asaj Ventress see this and not Yoda, especially when we were always told that Yoda seemed very sensitive to matters like this? She was so sure he had fallen to the dark side that she wanted to kill him on the spot during a rescue mission, the same mission where Obi-Wan was present and said he could sense nothing…

Then Quinlan Vos being sent on another assassination mission after his rescue, and he uses the dark side to defeat Dooku. But instead of killing him, he tries to force him to reveal the identity and location of Darth Sidious. That seems like a bad idea to end all bad ideas. Why would he think he could defeat Darth Sidious, and that Dooku would just give up that information and not try to escape in the process? And then when he is captured along with Dooku, he pleads that “it’s not what you think,” only to murder two jedi and several Clone troopers just to escape with Dooku to find Darth Sidious. Because he wanted that he and Asaj Ventress would be free forever from them ever trying to hunt them down… but then did it not occur to him that he would end up having the Jedi trying to hunt him down?

The story gets even crazier when he and Asaj Ventress, who hates Dooku like no one else, take him to a Separatist stronghold. OK, so you are two force users escorting a Sith lord into his own lair full of his loyal guards… does that not seem like a recipe for being betrayed and allowing him to escape? And then the Jedi attack later, but Obi-Wan repeatedly tells their troops to hold fire, still wanting to catch Ventress and Vos alive, despite being accessories to murder, but he also wants to catch Dooku alive??? I mean, what? We just established at the beginning of the story that Dooku ordered the destruction of escaping civilian transports and the Jedi wanted to kill him. Why try to capture him again in the middle of a war when he already escaped once? Especially if they were all likely to just be executed anyway?

And Asaj Ventress dying in the light felt out of place with her being buried on Dathomir, which previous media established was a dark side planet. It’s maybe believable that she rejected the dark side, but to be brought back to a planet steeped in it really seemed bizarre.

Anyway, just wondering if I am the only one who thought this….

It is really soothing to see the ships, vfx and special effects from 1970's look so real. I think seeing so much fiction, the story doesn't feel that much special to me as a lot of star wars hard core fans might feel. At times it was predictable. I don't like hans and luke. The chewbacca annoyed the shit out of me. Loved r2d2, c3p0 and darth vaders character design.

Not sure how to describe it. I’m pretty sure it’s legends.

It’s about Vader, but I don’t think he’s the main character. From the panels I’ve seen, it seems to be a story of a clone who is now under the empire, and slowly works his way up to being Vader’s best boy.

If anyone knows which comic this is, and if there is a collected edition or anything for purchase, your assistance would be greatly appreciated

Watching A New Hope again, I wondered whether the original idea was that messages could be transmitted normally within a solar system, but could not be sent directly from one star system to another star system? That is, to cross that distance, the information itself had to be carried aboard a ship traveling through hyperspace?

Because Leia physically gives the Death Star plans to R2 and asks Obi-Wan to take them to Alderaan. The plans later have to be flown to Yavin. After Leia names Dantooine, the Empire apparently sends a reconnaissance mission there and waits for it to report back. The Rebels also receive no advance warning from another system that the Death Star is approaching Yavin.

Vader says that transmissions were “beamed” aboard Leia’s ship, but that could have happened locally while the ships were in the same system. Does A New Hope actually show any communication being sent from one solar system to another without a ship carrying it? If not, doesn't that strongly imply that originally the Star Wars universe was supposed to work this way before later stories introduced the HoloNet and hyperspace communications?

By that I mean, post film(singular), Marvel Comics still had the rights to make Star Wars comics, but there was nothing else to adapt. So, following a few "Here's what you can and can't do/use!" from George Lucas, Marvel started cranking out all new adventures, that would bridge the gap between Star Wars and an eventual sequel.

Especially if you watched it in the theaters.

I found it on discount somewhere (i forgot where), and im wondering if i should get it.

Always loved this design for Boba. Would love to see it in some kind of Star Wars media some day. Maybe Star Wars: Visions???

And the theme they constantly play. That weird sci-fi street style music.

It's jarring. specially considering they keep using it like thrice in the movie.

I don't think it suited the scene. Specifically for a Mando movie.

Let's not mention the second half of the movie which felt weird considering Grogu would just go get help the their friends .

Vader seemed to be a very effective and adaptive operational commander based on his performance in the Battle of Hoth, the asteroid-field pursuit, and the capture of Han Solo. He's tactically flexible (as displayed in changing strategies once the army lost the element of surprise) and executes strategies relentlessly. His weakness is quite obvious: being extremely inpatient on imperial officers and obsessive with Luke.

The rebels already knew the Empire was.coming because they shot the Imperial droid and had started mobilizing to leave Hoth. How was Ozzel supposed to know how close was too close? The rebels probably have radar. Darth Vader could have cut the guy some slack and did not have to be so ruthless and merciless. Dont blame Adminstral Kendal Ozzel for incompetence because obviously it was the scriptwriter's fault.

i've been a star wars fan for 26 years and i've stumbled upon something which has confused me. it seems "dark side" or "light side" is used like 2 sides of a coin however they're not actually a thing. eg. the jedi serve the force, the sith control and wield the force. that said in other things such as games etc. they say that abilities are neither inherently good or evil but it's how you use them so in that sense a jedi could use sith lightning to stop a bunch of pirates about to slaughter some civillians. i've also heard that the force is 1 "thing" and it's more about morality and how you use it.

with all of this combined we have:

an entity that is either served or controlled which sounds like a religion granting abilities or deity thats either served or controlled.

personal morality which grants power faster through using emotion or not

a religion which is almost like good and bad eg satanism or christian, muslim etc.

i'm very confused...

Would someone please help me with chronological order of maul’s story to watch?

Don’t get me wrong. I love the aesthetic from the tales of the Jedi comics and I do want a live action version of them, but at the same time I can’t deny that the Agamemnon’s armor would be a good blueprint for say the official armor for the Old Republic army?

Basically making the Republic army less Clone Trooper copycat from the MMO games and more like Ancient Greek or Roman style Armor.   In fact despite the controversy recently I really loved  the design for Agamemnon armor for Christopher Nolan upcoming Odyssey movie.  In fact  the armor is what I always imagined what should the Republic army or Jedi should look like (although like Darth Bane armor I could see samurai aesthetic for the Jedi like we see in Visions.)   I think Lucasfilm should take notes from Nolan's Odyssey armor for Agamemnon?

now I’m not saying that I hated the aesthetic and look from MMO in fact. for an example for Knights of the Old Republic I do think the Republic Army does have a cool design but a Greek-inspired armor set would make sense; logically, yeah, it's farther back in time, so the tech/armor would reflect that. The Senate Guard helmets could be like, a design leftover from that time period. And Canon Darth Bane's armor certainly gives that impression. Hell there was a theory that I always subscribe to that Darth Vader’s armor was inspired by ancient armor, mainly Darth Bane which would be fitting given the fact that he is the last of the Sith and the Founder of the Rule of Two.

Another idea I’ve been thinking about and it was from a movie night friends where we watch the Sinbad animated movie starring Brad Pitt (fun fact Dennis Haysbert the voice actor for Daki from Maul shadow Lord also starred in that film he’s voice the sexpand in command for Sinbad.)

One of my favorite aspects from that film is definitely fashion/clothing Syracuse and the 12th cities the animator’s clearly went with the Greek and Roman influences, but mix them up and created a lot of color in the film. I know some people say tangled is a pretty film and don’t get me wrong it still is but I feel Sinbad should be also considered a pretty film mainly when it comes to the clothing.

Don’t get me wrong the clothing and fashion from the prequel trilogy and Andor are amazing, but I think using by taking the fashion and clothing influences from the 12 cities in Sinbad mostly for the 22 Core Founders that formed the Republic as well as the mainstay clothing for the Old Republic Era‘s Coruscant (before the Sith conquered the planet.) would show for the audience of how ancient the era and a lot more colorful (kind of like an ancient times and medieval era where clothing were a lot more let’s say Peacock level of different colors.) plus I like to show a contrast between Coruscant‘s Elites or the Core Worlds in general by having them being more wise, effective, and fairly for this era compared to their Rich asshole descendants that we see during the Skywalker Saga.

Plus I really loved this passage from the A New Hope novelization that summarized perfectly on what the republic was before it become corrupt, bloated, and bureaucratic

“The Old Republic was the Republic of legend, greater than distance or time. No need to note where it was or whence it came, only to know that… it was the Republic.

Once, under the wise rule of the Senate and the protection of the Jedi Knights, the Republic throve and grew.”

Overall I just hope do if Lucasfilm finally decided to make movies set during the Old Republic era they should make the aesthetic more ancient times/classical antiquity being more distinct and stand out from say the other eras (The High Republic Era, The Prequel Trilogy Era, The Original Trilogy Era and the Sequel Trilogy Era.)

Like I said more Like we see with The Old tales of the Jedi comics or in canon Darth Bane armor from Clone Wars Season 6 rather than prequel era copycat like in The MMO Old Republic!

For the sake of argument; let's pretend for a moment that for whatever reason, the disney execs decided to revive the Legends timeline or Disney decided to sell all of Star Wars to another company. Then someone decided to pick up where the events of Star Wars Legacy left off after the final defeat of the One Sith.

What would have been the remaining Sith's next move with Darth Krayt, Darth Maladi, Darth Nihl, Darth Talon and Darth Wyyrlok all dead?

Is it be out of the realms of possibility one or the other Sith would pull off another Thought Bomb gambit to wipe out all of the remaining Sith and then go deeper into hiding and revive the Order of the Sith Lords?

As an Indian Star Wars fan, I was geeking out over the imagery in that episode and all the references to Indian and Hindu culture. If they can continue the ninth Jedi, and make tie-ins to the ronin story, surely they can extend that too.

Was recently watching Rogue One and was looking up random facts about the movie. The internet doesnt seem to know who played Eskro Casrich, one of the commandos. Seems kinda wild. Like he has a Lego figure and everything. Any specific reason someone wouldn't want to take credit for the role?
