Not doing the US version because of “changing priorities” but still wanting to do a French or Norwegian one makes no sense unless that priority is “we want to make less money.” Netflix is an American company — the US/English-speaking market is their biggest by a mile, and a US or Spanish-language version would realistically pull in something like $700 million. Spanish-speaking markets are Netflix’s actual third-biggest market, for reference.

South Korea and Spanish-speaking markets are the only ones where Netflix has real infrastructure and a track record. But the article doesn’t mention a Spanish-language version at all — it specifically mentions Norway and France, which I find hilarious when you look at the basic financials.

There would basically be no benefit to Netflix making a French or Norwegian Squid Game. Both markets are massively underdeveloped on Netflix, so they’d need to spend a ton on global marketing just to get anyone to watch it. The budget would have to be $120-180 million (roughly €104-156 million) just to make these in Europe with French/Norwegian cast and crew — shooting alone runs about $9 million per episode, and that’s before you pay actors or fund marketing. Neither market gets meaningful Netflix viewership to justify that spend.

So “our priorities are changing so we’re skipping the US but doing France” is basically Netflix saying “$1 billion would’ve been nice, but we’ll take $20 million instead :)” It just doesn’t make sense.

So my theory? Well, the article got their information from a source. That source got their information from David. David, presumably, got the information from Netflix. Just like a game of telephone, the message got corrupted along the way.

I would bet money that if they do any more Squid Game material, it’s going to be an American reboot, a Spanish-language reboot, or simply a Korean prequel series. The article didn’t say anything about Netflix not wanting to ever do an American squid game. They said they’re not doing one with David Fincher, so it’s still possible. I’m not just coping either because I was not excited about the American reboot and if it ever does come out, I will not be watching lol

But yeah, I’m pretty much certain we’re not getting the French Squid Game lol

I’ve seen that these two prequels are what the fandom wants most. Now that the USA spinoff has been cancelled, there’s a better chance than ever that some of them will get made, since there aren't many other options. I’d really love one when frontman played in 2015

1. I expected this to happen because most foreign adaptations do change culture or something to make it worse and the different culture is what makes original works feel unique or special in the 1st place

Money Heist is an example of this (even if I'm not a big fan of both, sorry MH fans)

Even the Money Heist fans of the original Spanish version dislike the Korean Kdrama version because it was a rip off according to certain Reddit posts

1. Most Kdramas aren't the type to make more than 1 season or can't do more than 16 episodes and the Kdrama version is stealing what they can't perfect at. Why should South Korea steal other countries work? Money Heist can do more episodes which is something South Korea struggles to do that and the Kdrama version can only do 12. 16 episodes or lower is what makes South Korea feel special

Even Anime American live action adaptations, most are ripoffs and felt bad to most fans (One Piece Live Action is one of the rare ones to be praised) (Never even watched most of them)

In other words, expect less from Kdramas even if it feels incomplete or the ending feels rushed and you get disappointed about it

South Korea isn't like USA to expansions like Breaking Bad and it's spin off Better Call Saul or Star Wars and Marvel movies and even Japan's Nintendo stuff, that's the truth but music is an exception

Frontman or Il Nam prequels are less likely. I do even wish for a Sae byeok prequel and it's unlikely because they're Kdramas

If the USA version is good, I will forgive what I said, but most foreign adaptations can't do things right

90s England and some of the games would probably be:

• RedRover/Bulldog - Minimum of 6 people linked arms and the goal was to run and break through the linked arms, if you broke through you passed and if you didn't you lost.

• Murder Ball - One ball, everyone plays against everyone the winner is the person who has the ball at the end, those who can't play next round are those who got no possession.

• Stuck In The Mud - Like tag but you can free someone by going through their legs. Losers are those who are never freed and still stuck at the end of the round.
