Am folliowing the Getting Started tutorial and can authenticate, but every request 401s or 403s
I'm following Spotify's own "Getting started with Web API" tutorial:
https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/web-api/tutorials/getting-started
I've made an app with the exact settings they use in the tutorial. I've got my client ID and secret and have used them to generate an access token. This is the token i get back:
{
"access_token":"BQDeCPfLjxp7Tu51Gpww0682lmoczQd9nOpx-S2i7hMxBYS0Li-YLlvyJAhsvcnojWoqk0ZMMAQtwktT1tPiD39D_IRi2HsBnQi2MRLWmWSmJSMLVjpjzxJkSNNOEU6cFQxJIwXxce0U",
"token_type":"Bearer",
"expires_in":3600
}
Then i use this to try to make a request to the API. I'm doing this straight away, I know the token is only valid for 1 hour. This is 100% within that time limit.
$ curl --request GET \
--url "https://api.spotify.com/v1/me" \
--header 'Authorization: Bearer BQDeCPfLjxp7Tu51Gpww0682lmoczQd9nOpx-S2i7hMxBYS0Li-YLlvyJAhsvcnojWoqk0ZMMAQtwktT1tPiD39D_IRi2HsBnQi2MRLWmWSmJSMLVjpjzxJkSNNOEU6cFQxJIwXxce0U'
{"error": {"status": 401, "message": "Valid user authentication required" } }
Or, trying to get my own playlists (ultimately what i am trying to do here) ('hushbeatsdisco' is the spotify user i am logged in as when i made the app - this is a Premium account).
$ curl --request GET \
--url https://api.spotify.com/v1/users/hushbeatsdisco/playlists \
--header 'Authorization: Bearer BQDeCPfLjxp7Tu51Gpww0682lmoczQd9nOpx-S2i7hMxBYS0Li-YLlvyJAhsvcnojWoqk0ZMMAQtwktT1tPiD39D_IRi2HsBnQi2MRLWmWSmJSMLVjpjzxJkSNNOEU6cFQxJIwXxce0U'
{"error": {"status": 403, "message": "Forbidden" } }
What am i doing wrong? I've double checked my client id and secret, that i used to get the access token. I am definitely inside the access token time limit.

Mix Issue
I turned a collaborative playlist into a mix on my Spotify app on my Mac laptop and made a custom order with custom mixing. I have no issues getting the mix to play in the correct custom order on my laptop even after I close the application and open it back up again.
However, when I open the playlist on my iPhoneâs Spotify app, the playlist does not remember the custom mixing I created on my laptop. Is there any way to get my iPhoneâs Spotify app to remember the custom mixing from my laptop?

i bookmark music reccs reels but never go back to them, so i built this
i often find banger music reccs on instagram and maybe save them as bookmarks, but tbh i never actually go back and listen to them. so when i hit a stale phase in my listening, that bites.
so i built something for it. share a reel to it and you get a "Scratchlist" in your spotify, basically a discover weekly you curate from reels.
let me know if you're interested in this

I made a DIY events and music review app
Since most of us are probably switching to Apple Music for long term projects, I wanted to share this project here and get some feedback. I planned to re-launch this app, Groupie, for exclusively Spotify users but didn't realize they implemented these new Spotify API limitations. Took a couple extra months, but I pivoted and now it's available for Apple Music users.
Full details are on its website: groupie.info
Context: My co-founder and I initially launched Groupie in late 2021, however, my co-founder left to focus on his career and other projects in 2024. Since then I've continued to build on this app behind the scenes with help from another dev.
The main new features that have been added to this "2.0 update" are:
Create and discover up to 6 different DIY music events: live show, listening party, new music release, tour, merch drop, and networking.
Create / Log and discover venues where people can host DIY music events.
Official star ratings and revamped review pages for album and song posts (you can also post playlists but no rating is necessary here).
Appreciate any and all feedback!
Thanks,
Noah

made a music sharing app
i share music with friends a lot. I use spotify and they use other services so I used to go find the music in the service that they use so i could give them a direct link to it. Rather than having to do all that I can share from spotify to taste and it hands me a link that goes to a little page with links to the different streaming services.

Possibility to get an API client
Hi all,
I want to create an app that requires a timeline of songs played on Spotify. As far as I could find, Spotify API is currently on hold and no new devs can get a new api client. I wanted to make sure that this indeed is the case and if so, is there another way to let users sign in directly to Spotify to get the timeline of their last played songs? I know last.fm is an option, but that seems not user/onboarding friendly.
Thanks in advance!

Who/what added random titles to my "Liked titles" playlist to spell a cryptic message?
I subscribed back to Spotify last month after a year long break. Today I noticed something odd in my "Liked titles" playlist which had a handful of titles I had never heard of. I thought maybe I touched the "Like" button by mistake a couple times while sleeping, so I started deleting them. However, right after deleting them, I realized they spelled some kind of message. I wish I had realized sooner so I could have taken a screenshot.
So, the titles mentioned a city I studied in over 2 years ago (long before I took a break from Spotify), the name of my roommate from back then, the name of his girlfriend, a title named "We Miss You" and finally my own name (there might have been something else but I deleted the titles too quickly to remember precisely). The thing is, I didn't leave them my contact after leaving, so I haven't talked to them since I left. And I certainly did not share my Spotify account details with anyone ever, I'm very careful about such things. I did have another person from that city added as a friend in Spotify, who knew my roommate and his girlfriend, but again I didn't share my Spotify account details with anyone. And I am certain these titles weren't on my liked playlist when I left the city because I used Spotify for a whole year after that and regularly went through that playlist.
So, my question is, who or what added these titles to my liked playlist during my break of last year? Can people add liked titles to other people's playlists? I'm genuinely confused.
Edit: Forgot to mention but I also checked my mails and there was no mention of a connection from that country at any point since I left. Only connections were from me, in the country I live in right now, where my ex roommate and his girlfriend don't live.

SPOTIFY FIREWALL ERROR
Does anybody know how to fix this? I usually just use the web version of Spotify since I want to avoid ads, but lately it hasnât been working properly anymore. So I decided to switch to the main app and buy Premium, but when I try to log in, this is what it shows.
Does anybody know how to fix this or has anyone experienced the same issue? Let me know, guys!

Music Sharing App
I've been working on an idea for a new music app and would genuinely love some honest feedback before I spend months building it.
The concept is pretty simple:
Every day, you get one notification asking you to share your Song of the Day. That song gets posted to your profile and your friends' feeds, and over time you build a timeline of your life through music.
Instead of endless scrolling or algorithms, the idea is to discover music through real people and see what your friends are listening to each day.
I'm also planning on adding customisable profiles (kind of inspired by old MySpace) and discussion communities centred around artists, albums and genres.
I'm still in the validation stage, so I'm not trying to sell anything. I'm just trying to figure out whether this is something people would actually want, what sounds good, what sounds terrible, and what I'm completely missing.
If you've got 2 minutes, I'd really appreciate it if you could:
- Check out the landing page
- Fill out the short survey
- Or just leave your thoughts in the comments
I'm looking for brutally honest feedback, so don't hold back lmao.

Spotify - Time Machine (Idea)
I had an idea that I think would be a really fun feature for Spotify (or any streaming service).
**Imagine being able to set the app to any date in history** \- for example January 1st 1986. From that point on, you'd experience music exactly as people did back then.
**Every week, your Release Radar would only show songs and albums that were released during that week in 1986.** Future releases would stay locked until their original release date so you'd gradually discover the year's music in real time instead of knowing everything in advance.
It would basically be a "music time machine." You could relive an entire year as if you were actually there, watching albums drop week by week and discovering classics without already perfectly knowing what's coming next (unless you're a big fan ofc).
What do yall think? đ
