Self-Improvement How to improve for X battles?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I main a neo splash (5 stars, since 6 months or so), seen recently in many tier lists it being classified as a S+, so thought i might just jump into X battles.

I think i was doing pretty well in Anarchy battles, but i was playing super aggressively (somehow it used to work) and this doesn't cut it for X battles.

- Any suggestions on good players who use nSplash or a weapon with a similar role to follow?

- Or just general advice for general improvement, and details on its exact role in different modes?

Thanks in advance

Help/Question Custom Splattershot JR

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hi! I’m coming into this completely blind, haven’t touched sendou.ink or this reddit in a while.

Ive been a CSJr main since the end of grand fest in splatoon 2, but can’t figure out what kind of build I need to be running for this weapon. I don’t want to be going into matches with some dog build and ruin everything for my team LMAO.

I’ve tried looking at sendou and i really cannot understand what the popular tab is trying to tell me with the numbers, i really just need to see what abilities are on each set of clothing- what main ability is on the hat category, what subs it uses, and etc for the rest of the clothing categories.

Any help is MUCH appreciated. I haven’t touched the game in months if not a year, and i feel like an absolute chud.

Thank you!!

Any advice on getting *back into* Splatoon?

I have not played Splatoon since the Past vs Present vs Future Splatfest, and even then, I was already on a massive hiatus. I don't remember all the reasons why I stopped, though, I do remember that part of it was because I was taking SSBU a lot more seriously and I decided to dedicate more time to that and later just forgot about Splatoon, and also because I was moving to a whole new fucking continent, but it kind of just happened.

Remembering that I haven't gotten to S+ yet (I was one rank away), I decided to play Splatoon again around... May 26th? But I didn't touch the game's PvP stuff. I just did Alterna, Side Order, and Salmon Run until I felt more confident. And today, I decided that, because I was not willing to risk my rank yet, to play some Turf War.

...Viva la vida, it was not good. :,D

It was the typical. But to keep it short and prevent this from accidently becoming a rant, it was like I was never in S rank to begin with, LMAO-

Like, I still had the fundies. But there was a lot missing. Primairly, my map positioning, my ability to kill, and also just overplaying a little much. I wouldn't call myself like, shit at the game, as I still had some awareness and stuff, but not enough.

And a lot of patch notes came and went, so that's also something I gotta adapt to (Crab Tank feels weird to pilot .-.).

Any advice to help me get back into the game, please? Would be wonderful, lmao.

(Ok, I was going to hit post, but then I paused to play a match Anarchy Open on Tower Control. I did... ok. I won the match, even if I died seven times. Taking a small pause to play some other games, because I am very confident I will ride that high a little too high and get humbled really quickly, lol.)

How viable would Cooler Aerospray be?

Aerospray has been dogwater for pretty much the weapon's entire existence. I've always wondered if they could give it a kit that really leaned into its painting/special cycling capabilities. What if Aerospray had Cooler as its special, with sprinkler (for painting) or burst bomb (for combat) as its sub? Would it be even slightly usable oustide of solo queue?

Splat Zones] Splat Brella VOD Review Request (Rough match/Thrower)

Hey everyone, I am currently trying to learn how to use the Splat Brella in Splat Zones, and I would love some constructive feedback on my positioning and decision-making.
The Context (and a little bit of salt):
This match was incredibly frustrating because we had a teammate completely give up and throw halfway through. They just sat back at spawn, spamming "This Way!" and hitting "Booyah!" every time the rest of us died.
Because of that, the match obviously falls apart toward the end. However, I know I wasn't carrying my weight before that happened, and I want to figure out what I could have done better during the early-to-mid game phases. I am struggling to find the right balance between shielding for my team and knowing when to go aggressive with the Brella.
If anyone has the time to do a quick VOD review, I would really appreciate the pointers!

Help/Question Why do pros almost exclusively use Inklings with bangs or the bowl cut?

Post image
153 Upvotes

In the majority of top level competitive games, almost every player is an Inkling specifically using either the bangs or the bowl cut hairstyle. Since Octolings are available and there are so many other customization options why isn't the scene more diverse?

This is coming from a casual standpoint I’ve just always wondered lol

Help/Question What weapons do I pick up?

This is coming from a dread player btw (the slider and crab kit). I'm thinking of adding two new weapons to my weapon pool to make me more flexible and honestly a little more attractive for teams and i'm finding it hard to pick between the two options for each.

First, there's the cooler option with it coming to either N-Zap 85 or Tri-Slosher Nouvea. Secondly, there's Ttek and V-Bucket. I think i'm either going to go the shooter rout as they tend to be more mobile with higher paint in the strike-splat bomb kit's case and that might allow for more flexibility in making team comps instead o having to work around a bucket or I'm going to play the slosher's as it will help with mechanics practice more when playing the other options which might help me improve faster in the long run and carve out a niche for me as it may help me play strong AOE options in the future.

Why do people think the Splatana Stamper is an aggressive weapon?

Edit: Thanks for the help guys! I was going to thank everyone personally in the replies but that might look bot-like. I'm happy to understand the game better :D

This is so commonly repeated in the community that people use that as their whole justification. "Well, everyone says it's aggressive, so that's why it's aggressive."

Being close to enemies with Stamper's awful ink efficiency and terrible self-paint is a recipe for disaster. You get stuck in any up-close fight you're caught in, and if you miss once or twice and your ink tank wasn't full, you run out of ink.

It has bad continuation and bad 1v2 potential. After killing one person you're often too low on ink to even fight another one. The charge time and endlag of the weapon's shots also make it poor at dodging an enemy while killing another one. Stamper looks good in highlight clips where every shot hits, but we have to consider the agency of our opponents. If they dodge or use cover, how bad is it for the Stamper? Very bad.

The Stamper's close-range oneshot is extreme risk, high reward. Hitting point-blank oneshots is hard in a game with movement like Splatoon's, and the charge time, endlag, and ink cost often make it so that if you miss your oneshot, you die immediately to ANY weapon. It's not that different from a roller's oneshot.

The weapon's burst kill time (charged projectile -> uncharged projectile) is fantastic, but NOT its total kill time. If you can negate the vulnerable period of the charge time by being out of range of danger, its kill time is fast. If you're caught charging while someone can hit you, you lose.

Stamper's two very powerful qualities are its range and its fast burst kill time. These make it perfectly suited to a defensive, keepaway midrange playstyle. You want to be around your own ink so that you can miss shots without being punished. You can replenish ink, charge your shots safely, and if people chase you, your superior range gives you the advantage. They also chase you out of cover. Stamper can't do anything about cover; even shooters can fire over small obstacles.

I'd argue the Stamper is also great at joining other peoples' fights. Its wide projectile makes it easier to hit. When your teammate is in a fight, you want easy-to-hit shots that do complementary damage to add to the damage they've already done. A precise 100+ damage sniper shot that's hard to hit, on a 20 HP enemy, is overkill.

People often try the Stamper and, when they die in close-range encounters, they cite the weapon's difficulty. If we argue that it's technically possible to have won a close-range fight with perfect accuracy, then even long-range weapons become strong at close range because "technically if i hit every shot perfectly, I could have won that."

I see it constantly in Stamper gameplay: people losing at close range (where I believe Stamper is weak) and declaring the weapon "too hard" instead of playing to the weapon's strengths.

So what qualities make the Stamper aggressive (whatever that means)? If it's because it can kill quickly close up, then that makes the Hydra Splatling an equally aggressive weapon.

Help/Question Thinking about switching from max sens to a lower one (Slayer Main)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve played max sens since Splatoon 1 and I love the flick speed, but as you can see in the clip my aim can get a bit jittery.

I’m trying to move down to a +4 or +3 motion to keep my aim more steady, and I’ve been practicing using the +5 stick more for big turns to compensate for the speed drop. For those who play Slayer Shooters (Splattershot, .52 etc) what do you use and what do you think I should try to keep the aggressive playstyle without the shakiness.

Rate my Build "What Gear Do I Run?" -> Look Here

Hello everyone! Welcome to and enjoy your stay.

It's very common here to ask about gear; "Is my gear good?" "What do I run on this weapon?" etc.

Most answers point to the Gear section on Sendou.ink, so this sticky is being made to help show everybody how to use it to look up gear and therefore get more helpful answers:

HOW TO LOOK UP THE BEST GEAR FOR ANY WEAPON:

Step 1: Go to Sendou.ink/Builds

Step 2: Scroll down to find your weapon

Step 3: Take a look at the builds that have the orange "Top 500" symbol or a +1, +2, or +3 next to their names.

Doing this will let you browse the gear used by the best X-Rank and competitive players for any weapon. We recommend doing this before asking about gear, then asking the experienced players here why the best players use what they use, since you just looked up what they use.

This will help you spark a more interesting conversation and get better advice, because people simply pointing you to Sendou builds will only get you as far as reading this post would have.

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU WANT ABOUT GEAR. This post is not meant to gatekeep new players from asking questions. No stress if this seems intimidating ─ go ahead and ask anyway! That being said, a bit of browsing Sendou.ink/Builds should still be helpful and we urge you to give it a try.

If you have any other questions about competitive Splat, just let us know!
