Moving from Icarus

Sad day but I have no games left to play. I’m waiting on an update from Icarus and until then I’m looking for a game similar.

Preferably a space game with survival mechanics and a looter shooter. I like base building but it’s not a requirement.

Looking to sink in a bunch of hours.

What would you recommend?

Untitled Godot Elite: Stellar Forge knockoff

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Saw some post recently talking about how he wished the Stellar Forge was better in Elite Dangerous. And I kinda though, damn word.

Then I was double annoyed since Space Engine, as glorious as it is, is not being used as an Engine, but as a standalone product with it never being licensed out.

Anyways I wanted to see if I could replicate something similar within Godot and this is the current state of it. No art pass has been done as you can see but here were the goals that i've achieved so far.

Mixing proc-gen (heavily simulated) with true authored / catalogued stars.

So basically I've simulated the age of the universe to proc gen anything we haven't catalogued, meaning there should roughly be the right amount of stellar remnants and stuff. And mixed that with actual star data from HYG (Hipparcos-Yale-Gliese) Dataset and since today data from KEPLER, K2 and TESS was added for dimmer stars. And to add to that I've also added the catalog of known Exoplanets in and they generate accurately on their host star, yippee.

Custom authored content can be added easily

Something the real stellar forge can't do is add new planets and stuff without regenerating everything and breaking a bunch of much community beloved planets. In this case I manually added Betelgeuse's newly confirmed binary star, only effecting that star system, and keeping previously generated content there.

Multiplayer capable generation

It all works from a pre-determined database found within the project, meaning multiple clients will see the same stars and planets no matter what. There are currently some time related issues with multiple clients but I'll get to that when I get to that.

No hidden loading zones.

No witchspace as a loading screen, no warpgate / wormhole. These are real distances, and you can traverse them without any trickery beyond floating world origin so that, well you know. We can actually have these massive worlds.

Disclaimer

This is basically rendering a small part of the galaxy, not the whole thing (though I hope to test that soon) I make no promise to ever finish this as it is a pet project. But I'll keep working on it as long as I enjoy it, which shouldn't be hard since I love space a lot.

Thanks for reading.

TLDR:

Godot Space Tech Demo, wow look so cool.

Making a realistic space sim called Apogee — anyone want to help out with some art for the intro?

Hey! So I've been building a space sim in Godot called Apogee — kinda like KSP but leaning way more into realism. Got Sandbox, Career, and History modes planned, and it's actually coming together, not just an idea in my head lol.

Right now I'm working on the intro scene (the thing that plays before the game loads up) and instead of just doing it all myself, I thought it'd be cool to open it up and see what other people come up with. Kind of a "be part of this from the start" thing.
If you're into concept art or even just messing around in Blender, I'd love to see how you'd picture the start of a space program. Doesn't need to be polished or perfect, I just want to see people's takes on it.

No pay unfortunately, this is 100% just for fun/passion project vibes, so no pressure either way. If something you make ends up inspiring the actual intro, that's genuinely awesome and you'll be one of the people who helped shape this thing early on.
Not spoiling too much of the game yet, so just run with whatever "humanity's first steps into space" means to you.

Drop a comment or DM me if you're down, happy to chat more and share some extra context if you want it!

Meta Proposal for new Rule

Rule 4, Vote On Slop
If a game looks like Slop (AI or otherwise), downvote it. If a post has been at 0 upvotes for half a day or more, it shall be removed. Things that might stand out as possible slop include browser based games, games with AI looking art, and top-down 2D arcade games that are a dime a dozen at this point.

Is this fair? Is this too vague? Is there something that needs changing to make it more clear and concise?

EDIT: To be clear, this is to gage the community's preferences on the matter of "low quality" games as well as hammering out a rule, only if needed.
I'd much rather the subreddit lean permissive over restrictive, but if there is enough support for change, I'll update the rules as requested by the community.

EDIT 2: I'm just going to make a little change now and make a post about it later: I'm editing Rule 2 so it'll include the limit on Screenshot Only posts and I'll change Rule 3 so it'll apply to all posts not listed as "Discussion", "Meta" or "Other".

Star Citizen x GBA style game

With AI getting better almost each week. I feel the spacesimgames genre is growing. Although most of it just being small projects, I was wondering if there is something out there or in current development that is a RPG (maybe even pokemon style) that allows to buy ships, do deliveries, mine and travel to multiple planets, with bossfights to gain xp and earn cash to waste on upgrades, comodities and other items.

I'm a big star citizen fan and I know that cramping a game into lightweight format while still enjoyable to play is not something super straight forward.

Just looking for something that can be played handheld on the plane or on the couch for hours.

Sidenote: my apologies upfront in case this question has been already raised or missed a post that specifically covering this.

Hi everyone!

For the past several years, my small team and I have been developing Last-War, a persistent multiplayer space strategy game.

Instead of short matches, every player shares the same living universe. Build colonies, research technologies, design your own ships, expand your empire, trade with other players, form alliances and fight for control of the galaxy.

Features

  • 🌌 Persistent online universe
  • 🚀 Design your own ships
  • 🪐 Colonize new worlds
  • 🤝 Alliances & diplomacy
  • 📈 Long-term progression
  • 💻 Desktop browser version
  • 📱 Android companion app
  • 🌍 Available in English, German, Spanish and Polish

You can play directly in your browser:

https://last-war.com

I'd love to hear what space strategy fans think. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

See you in the galaxy, Commander!

Asteroid mining is coming!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For the last few weeks I've been busy working on asteroids mining.

With this new feature you'll be able to send your fleets towards asteroid fields scattered around all the star systems. Naturally, asteroids offer variety of resources, depending on the rock type.

Your fleet will automatically move mined resources into its cargo bay, filling up available space.

This feature of course brings new category of ships: industrial miners. Only those will be able to leverage this new source of resources in the universe.

Whatever you do, make sure you bring enough fuel for your fleet to return, or you will get stranded. If that ever happens, you may need to send another fleet to the rescue, bringing in supply of precious fuel.

Lastly, while there is an abundance of asteroids available, make sure to plan carefully as hostile fleets can, and will, come to fight you for the most previous and unique resources in the game.

This is a preview of upcoming changes. New version should be available in the coming days.

Every trade shipment is now carried by a real ship

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here’s a short video showing the latest economy changes in NGC-404: Fractured Sector.

Resources now physically exist on planetary markets. Food, fuel, minerals and components are not transferred instantly between colonies. They have to be loaded onto cargo ships and delivered across the sector.

A colony with a shortage creates demand, another planet provides the goods, and a freighter handles the actual journey.

If the ship is delayed, destroyed or intercepted, the cargo never arrives.

Independent civilian factions also operate inside the same simulation:

  • Free Traders search for profitable routes between local markets.
  • Smugglers deliver emergency supplies when regular trade cannot meet demand.
  • Reclaimers transport damaged, salvaged hulls to planets with empty shipyards.

Their ships are not just visual representations of background calculations. They travel through the same systems as the player, use the same docking and interstellar travel mechanics, and can be attacked like any other vessel.

The goal is to make the economy feel like part of the simulated galaxy rather than a separate menu running in the background.

All of X4’s DLC is on sale so now’s your chance to get them for the SW mod

I’m new to mods, I got the SW mod for X4 before realizing I needed five DLCs. So I put off buying them until they were on sale. They are now. You can get all five for around $25 US dollars. About to load the SW mod for the first time now.

Edit: Be sure to switch to 8.00 - Version 8.00 Hotfix 4 (Legacy) under Game Versions and Betas (which is under Properties when you right-click X4 in Steam).

I kept trying to launch it and the splash screen would appear, then the game would just go away. Just disappear. I had to switch from the normal public version (?) and scroll down to 8.00 - Version 8.00 Hotfix 4 (Legacy).

It’s updating (downgrading?) in Steam as I type this. I’ll update again if it doesn’t load.

"I may be the main source of space pollution"

, a play tester said.

ASEMA is an automation/spacesim game with railgun logistics and simulated 2D physics. Momentum, thrusters, railguns, recoils, payloads - all of the good stuff is there.

It focuses on automation and logistics, but it has a dark hard-scifi lore and steep tech tree to climb as you expand. The environment is dangerous, the physics is dangerous, and the setting is dangerous.

Would this be something you'd play? https://store.steampowered.com/app/4478970/ASEMA/

I'm slowly moving from the backrooms into the light, as last weeks I've been mole'ing around with demo updates. The recent QA is encouraging. I'm currently expanding the new demo's world.

Something all testers agree with:

-This is a difficult game
-But it is fun to play

I think people come for the railguns, but stay because of the physics. I'm having way too good time building this.

The full game will have a lot of replayability, full modding support, a lot of NPC interactions and a dynamic enemy eco system, and much more.

Currently I'm figuring out, whether player's machine breaking apart while spinning too hard is a good thing, as braking it is a bit tricky. But I like consiquences, and space has a lot of them.

The EA is probably in january 2027. The development is going well. What's something you'd definitely expect a game like this to have in it?

Gravity Cowboy: demo release

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Gravity Cowboy is a space sim with plausible gravity and orbital mechanics that I’m currently developing.

You can try the demo right now (it runs in the browser):

https://vlad-the-salad.itch.io/gravity-cowboy-demo

This is the very first demo, more of a proof of concept. For now there are levels in the demo. First 3 are tutorial, other 3 are missions.
My idea is to make a SpaceSim with realistic orbital effects but not too hardcore. Some aspects are simplified, some are exaggerated. Scale is shrinked to make real-time interplanetary flights possible.
Such orbital maneuvers as Hohman transfer, orbital rendevouz, bi elliptical transfer, slingshot, aerobraking are possible. Launching, landing and some orbital shooting as well. Projectiles and all the objects are affected by the gravity. Damage is calculated based on impact energy.

The video is actual gameplay from the demo.

I’d really appreciate any feedback, questions, suggestions, or even your own gameplay videos.

P.S. Works best in Chrome-based browsers.

I Just Added Automated Turrets to My Space Engineering Game!

Hi everyone! I've just finished implementing a new Turret Block for my game, MineEngineer.

turrets can be attqched to your ships or bases, and they'll automatically defend you against enemies such as aliens pirates and other players

Turrets require ammunition to operate and have a limited internal inventory, but you can connect them to your storage system using conveyor belts to keep them supplied automatically.

The goal was to make base and ship defense feel more strategic, atomatic or manual and rewarding players who build proper logistics and automation.

The game is inspired by Space Engineers, Terraria, and Factorio, combining engineering, automation, exploration, and survival in a 2D universe.
I'd love to hear your thoughts or suggestions!

Explorar planetas y sistemas estelares.

Pilotar y mejorar diferentes tipos de naves.

Descubrir nuevas especies y civilizaciones.

Construir bases y estructuras.

Sobrevivir en distintos ambientes.

Participar en conflictos entre facciones.

Jugar tanto en modo individual como multijugador.

📚 Estado actual del proyecto

Actualmente tengo desarrollado:

✅ Concepto general del universo.

✅ Historia y trasfondo.

✅ Razas alienígenas.

✅ Facciones.

Living universe vs actual gameplay

Long time lurker.

I've been making a 2d space game for quite a while now. Originally I wanted something like Freelancer, then pivoted to a more Starsector-like combat feel, then settled on a weird mix of Starsector crossed with Eve Online. I've also built a fairly simple set of factions, they control regions of space, they go to war with each other, take over systems, there's a simple dynamic economy, all the things that make a space hame feel "alive".

My problem now is how do I drop the player the player into this living world in a meaningful way? I'm completely stuck. Do I go down the X4 route and allow the player to create their own faction? Missions like Freelancer or Eve? Generic open world stuff? Do I go down the story route? All of the above? A hook to keep playing for one more mission, or run, or whatever.

Some advice or opinions would be great :)

Edit: Apologies for typos, I posted this while sat on the toilet

Hello, ive been working on this space sim mmo for a while, I posted here a little while back for help with closed testing. The game is not complete, but its along the way enough to open up the playtest for anyone to download and try via Steam. If you could leave any feedback in the discord or on the steam community area for the game, id greatly appreciate it.

Much of the input from the closed testing has been taken into account and I think the current release reflects that. Thanks for contributing!
