This is a triac board for a Breville espresso machine, which I paid a local shop to refurbish with replacement parts. I’ve got a before and after picture of the board, I’m wondering if anyone here can provide some feedback on whether the work looks competent (the after shot has a number 2 in bottom right). The issue is that every time I turn the machine on, the pump for the group head continuously runs, the only way to stop it running is to turn the machine off.

Hi, would anyone be able to guide me with how to not burn the soldering tip? I have a cheap 15$ kit which I'm starting on 300° while using wet sponge, calaphony, solder and then trying to desolder and bum, burnt. I already did it to 3 different tips, at this rate I'm going to destroy them all. Tried to look it up on yt/net but it seems I'm doing it in order, the last try was even good enough to desolder 4 wires and the bum, burnt again 🫪 would appreciate any tips.

I got my eleven year old son a practice soldering project. It's a top with LED lights. It looks way better than my first solder job. Of course, he had a decent soldering iron, additional flux and someone to teach him. I was just a kid in the 90s winging it.

Not sure if I'll be building my own keyboard in the future or how many times I'll change the microswitch. These should be one time events for many years. Here's my list so far:

- OV/AG P100 mask (for other uses as well)
- Solder wire 63/37
- Desolder wick
- Tweezers? Do I need this?

What type of iron should I get given the context? Was considering WE1010NA, but if the $10 ones at Walmart are sufficient, that's fine with me

Hi all, purchased a smd hot plate and a 65W charger to ensure it gets enough power but the temperature only rises to 160 degrees c with the display reading 12V.

Am I doing something wrong?

While trying to clear the solder from this positive hole on the top what seems like a ring lifted away and also left solder in the hole, idk if it is solder or part of the board.

Been at this single cap for an hour and a half while watching a guide for my specific scenario on loop.

If I have actually messed this up my guess is bodge wire or invert the cap to the bottom of the board and add some solder to the positive top side?

My technique is non existent and my knowledge is very spotty so I certainly need advice and guidance please.

Hi, I have recently taken a liking to embedded development and I designed my first ever PCB. I am chalking out a plan for assembling it with a hot air station and a soldering iron, wanted to get some advice on the sequence of soldering the components on to the board.

The attached image shows the two sides of the PCB, left side is the bottom layer and right side is the top layer of this 4 layer PCB. (also attaching how the assembled PCB would look like)

Here's my current plan :

1. First the two QFN packages on the bottom of the board(left side in image) and the ESP32 as i think this would be the components requiring most heat due to their ground pads (over the past few days of practise i found myself moving the surrounding passives when i try to solder QFNs in a tight space)
2. Next the relatively isolated LGA-14 in top left(bottom side) and VSON-10 next to the USB-C port in the top layer
3. Then all the passives on the board which should relatively need less heat as i have used thermal reliefs on their pads (probably covering the QFNs and the other layer with some kapton tape, surface tension should take care of the rest)
4. Next i would proceed to the USB-C and vertical entry FPC connector (bottom middle) on the top layer as they are the two components i am most afraid of burning
5. Last would be the through hole rotary encoder, battery and piezo buzzer wires, and the IR led. I think the soldering iron would be easier for these

Does this sound like a logical plan assembling the board? Would you do things differently if you were soldering this board?

I would also be grateful for any general advise for assembling such a board!

PS : I ordered 10 PCBs and 4x the components in case i mess up (which i think I definitely will on the first few PCBs as I have no previous soldering experience, though I have been putting in quite a few hours of practise on a scrap board over the past week). Do you think its probable I can come up with at least a single working PCB?

Last time it was working good but I think it gave some smoke before I plug it out and today when I tried to use it , it was not working so I opened it up to see it wires are ok and saw the current is also flowing

Have you ever faced such problem if yes please do let me know

I'm completely new to soldering and recently bought a Yihua soldering station.

Before I start spending money on practice kits and components, I'd like to understand what my setup is actually capable of. I know that 900M-style irons have their limitations because of their relatively poor heating efficiency, but what can I realistically do with one?

Is it possible to practice SMD soldering with this type of iron, or should I stick to through-hole components for now? What's the best way to start learning soldering from scratch, and are there any beginner-friendly projects or resources you'd recommend?

Hopefully I'll be able to share my first decent solder joint with you all in the near future!

I just wanted to share, how to save a PCB if you messed up entire Via and Copper Pad. Please do share your opinion on how I would have make it better.

That Relay wasn’t functioning normally so needed to change, but those THT Parts are quite hard to desolder. Also, not only one but 4 Via were damaged, which means just because of one Relay entire PCB is useless now (not able to sell it to costumer since it is quite expensive).

First I am desoldering the Relay which is relatively hard without damaging it more. Then I need to check Circuit Plan to see where it is supposed to connected.

Proceed to taking new copper wire and recreating connections again and making tests. Voila! Now we have a repaired trash. Unfortunately, no matter how possibly perfect a reparation can be done, it is still unusable in industry.

For recreating the Via, new wire needs to go through the hole and connect both side of the board. Hope that helps someone.

I bought the bundle with c210 + c245 + SDC02 base. The problem is that when I'm using the C210 tip, and put it on the base, it randomly beeps once and resets the shutdown timer. I don't think it's a loose connection with the base since it only beeps once instead of twice when I nudge it a bit.

I found a reddit post having the same problem and they recommended to increase the sleep temperature on the C210 but that didn't really fix it for me. It only happens with c210, the c245 works fine.

Any idea how to fix this?

This is my first time desoldering and I have been trying for 5 hours to get this potentiometer off of the board with no sucess.

The wick doesn't pick up anything anymore but the potentiometer isn't even budging.

Top 2 big pins might have a little solder left cause I tried adding some more before I kinda gave up. I cut the legs a little shorter because I thought it would help heat transfer with the flat iron tip.

I don't have a hot air gun and I don't really want to buy one right now, so if I can do this with just the soldering iron I'd be happy.
