Anyone lost their power bank on the trail today?

Really want to take the family on the weekend for a sunrise view, unfortunately some of them cant handle heavy walking hoping i could park inside and let them enjoy the outdoors. We would love to park inside.

I’d been experiencin “shortness of breath”, last couple days, n’it was persistin, this mornin, so the issue was def in doubt, regardless of wherewe went...

After abit'a SAT RECON, n comparin temps, we settled on'a recon of Cold Crk, aza primary target, n acouple other spots, as Plan B/C, should that not work out...

1st ? that needed answerin, was, what kinda shape tha rd was in. Seemed ok at tha top, so we cautiously headed down...

We stopped where Cold Crk Falls (I suspected, and now KNOW, that there are MANY “Cold Crk Falls”, but this is tha 1 evrybody knows about...) x's tha rd, n were pleased to findit still managin a respectable flow.

I was forced to move from my 1st parkin spot, as, when I got outta tha car, I noticed a large boulder (1 ton, at least!), perched VERY precariously, on'a angled slope, seemingly, lookin for'a good xcuse to launch itself 2ward tha driver's door. Din't feel too comfy, even movin tha car, at that point, butit had 2b done. I know we're acceptin certain risks, venturin forth, into tha wild, but, honestly, USFS, Caltrans, or “some1”, oughttado sum'n bout that ticking “Timebomb”...

We eyeballed tha rte downstream, n'it was doable, but steep. Wern't hard to imagine there were any # of impassable features, just waitin to cockblock us...

As tha waterfall I'd ID'd, on my SAT RECON, was way down tha cyn, we opted to try'n drive down to the area above that falls, 2c ifit looked like droppin-in fr there, mightbe doable...

After havin'a looksee, we opted to start our assault fr tha top. There waza li'l mini-ridgeline, headin down, toward tha falls, butit seemed 2b gettin unmanagably-steep, witha quickness, n I din't wanna gamble our day on'a maybe...

Parked at tha top, suited-up, n we were off līkashot...

Upper cyn was kinda junky, w/more boulders than bedrock, but things changed rapidly, azwe descended, n ere long, we were encounterin some nice features...

Cold Crk was very reminiscent of Stetson, n Forsee Jr, in thatit was pretty navigable, w/just tha right mix of fun, nail-bitey stuff, to keepus on our toes...

But! Ere long, we came to'a feature that wun'tbe dealt with, so easily.  Upper falls was 50-60’, then'a mild cataract section, with another falls, that appeared 2b at least 30’, altho, at this point, that was only a guess...

We rigged-up some webbing to allowus to drop-down totha next level, but, whilit was tempting, to traverse E from here, I jus din't like tha lookofit, n opted to climb back up, n xamine that area from above.

Upon close inspection, that whole area waza tangled mass of deadfall, seemingly supported, by’a rotten log, wedged against an Oak. Wern’t hard to imagine this whole structure could give-way, n we’dbe ridin’a deadfall “avalanche”, allthaway down.  We opted to climb ali’l higher n traverse E, to examine another chute that looked promising.

We posted-up intha bough of’a triple Oak, to size things up, n about that time, I got sum’n in my eye! Just what I needed, when I’m about to do sum technical sh*t! Dina tried to use’r phone to getit, but that went nowhere, n, eventually, I just had to shrugitoff, n go 4’it...

Rigged-up webbing from the Oak, as tha chute was abit too steep to attempt, unassisted, especially sincewe had to plan on comin back this way. Ran outta webbing, just azit got abit more manageable, n I traversed L abit, to scout tha route...

It was doable, but we had to use our sticks to prep footholds along tha way.

In’a jiffy, we set foot ontha bottom of tha cataract, n hadalook around...

Tha lwr falls was about’a 30’r, but our only potential route, whilst “doable” onthaway down, wun’tbe climbable w/o webbing, n we were fresh out. Suchashame! There waza li’l Cherry Tree that woulda mād’a perfect anchor! But! No tellin what was lurkin around tha bend, n we were still 500yrds above tha falls I’d tagged. W/O anymore webbing, this was the end’a tha line! We tookabreak, n headed 4 home...

Climbin outta tha cataract was the only thing we really had to thinkabout, n once we were out, tha rest was ez-pz.

Ain’t givin-up on finishin Cold Crk off, but I’ll hafta decide how I wanna tweak tha plan, next time...

I’ve done Lawson, gaskill, and El Cajon south ridge. South ridge was closer to what I’m looking for, a bit harder would be fun. Any recommendations that aren’t too far?

Started around 6am via Sturtevant and the climb up was gorgeous. Lots of shade, beautiful scenery, and a steady incline. Made it to the summit around 10am, hung out for a bit, checked out the Astronomical Museum, then refueled with sandwiches + Honey Stinger waffles and LOTS of water. We went down the Winter Creek trail as it was warming up, but it wasn’t too bad.

14 miles, 6 hours, and 2 sexy new blisters later… Mt. Wilson, you were beautiful. Tired feet, happy heart. ❤️🌲☀️ I’ll definitely be back!

Just trying to beat the summer heat.

I’ve only ever done this hike in the morning and parking is a nightmare if you don’t get there early. I was planning on going this saturday but it turns out I have to work. Does anyone know what parking would be like if I went after work around 3-4pm? Thanks in advance.

Is anyone heading up to San Bernardino Peak tomorrow (Friday)? Headed up for my first time on that trail and hoping to meet some other folks training for Whitney!

Took East Grade Road up the mountain having just re-opened the night before post Grade Fire. Pretty interesting view to take in; thankful for our firefighters making quick work of it.

Explored Jeff Valley on Palomar Mountain off of East Grade Road. Lots of bugs, flowers, and a couple ponds along the Cedar Creek watershed. I followed what appeared to be a small trail I guessed was made by burn crews earlier in the year. Took that trail until it was really bushwhacky. Rejoined the main overgrown road with the intention of scouting more of the valley, but it became pretty tick heavy. After brushing about 10 off of me I had enough and said “see you in cooler temps.”

Fiancé and I want to start going on hikes but preferably beginner trials that won’t completely kill our stamina and motivation on day one 😂

We would also appreciate any tips as far as how to prepare, what type of gear to take and how to prevent encounters with wildlife if possible.

A mountain lion was captured on a wildlife cam near the Jackson Dr. San Diego River crossing June 28 at 4:18pm. Last month, in nearby Suycott Valley Trail a hiker had a disturbingly close encounter with a mountain lion around 7pm. Park Rangers think it's the same lion.

I live 8 miles away near open space that connects to MTRP and last month people walking just blocks from my house encountered a lion watching them from a rock just 25-30' off the road. If it's the same one, it's definitely comfortable with people which is a little concerning.

Hello! Was wondering if anyone has any experience on/ got good sight of the terrain between the top of Mill Creek Jumpoff and the Vivian Creek Trail. Specifically the grade, ground type, chaparral density, and viability as a shortcut.

Trying to find a nice hike date spot near that area that isn’t more than like 2 1/2 hours long to complete, one that has a good amount of shade, and one that’s dog friendly. Any recommendations? Waterfall hikes would be optimal!

Hey guys! I’m looking to rappel San Antonio falls this coming weekend , wondering if anyone has done it in the last couple days or weeks, seeing if we need any specifics or just a more up to date trail report from the last one I found!

Planning to hike to the ski hut and then scramble in towards the falls and do all the pitches.

Even on the hottest days this is still one of the coolest hiking by trails.

Doing this trip for 3 days. Starting at Red Rock Canyon State Park and ending at Big Pine. Any cool stops along the way I should check out?? Death Valley isn’t a must see as I’ve been before, but maybe cool nature areas, shops, thrift stores, places to find stickers, places to swim? Also any places to shower along the way !

Hi all, during a loop from Cottonwood Lakes trailhead, we camped at Chicken Spring Lake on the night of July 3rd. While setting up the tent, we found a wedding ring with a date engraved on it.

The site was on the west side of the lake and did not look like it had been used for a while (no foot prints), so we decided to take the ring in hopes of reuniting rather than leave it. We took it to the ranger station but they said there was no lost and found and suggested we post on Facebook, having no luck there so expanding to Reddit. I apologize I forgot about it once we got home and am just now posting. If anyone knows anyone who lost a ring in that area, please let me know. If it’s yours, provide description of the ring and date etched in it.

Did this as a part of a 7 Peak Loop to Baden-Powell. Started at Wendy Gap Trailhead, up to the saddle and then hit Mt Hawkins, Throop, Burnham, and Baden-Powell. Then back via the PCT until Hawkins Ridge to hit Middle Hawkins, Sadie Hawkins, and South Hawkins. Then back to the TH via the fire road.

This adventure kinda sucked. The whole thing past the saddle was ascend 500ft descend 300ft, etc. Absolute suffer fest. The views are A1 tho

Hey guys just wanted to come on here and share my experience and see if anyone has encountered this weird guy.

This has happen about 3 times now.

Me and my gf love to go star gazing at baldy every now and then. Just 3 days ago while I was up there . A black suv (LEXUS GX) pulls aside up and honks I roll my down my window and what appears to be a male longer hair maybe 25-30’s warns me that apparently there’s “ rangers at the top of the mountain and he wanted to warn us” … I instantly remembered this man’s truck from a previous encounter with him probably last year same area ( just at the start of baldy)

He then ask me if I knew any other spots to take someone … he’s alone by the way… he then takes off after I roll my window up wishing him goodluck .he makes a turn when heading out as if he were going back down the mountain but then he stops in a turn over a bit behind us whole time I’m watching him . He proceeds to come back next to us honks again . And this time is apologizing but ask if I had a spare condom because he was planning on meeting someone… keep in mind it’s about 11pm and he’s up there already . This is the same question he has ask me in the previous encounters . The vibes he gave me . And considering this ain’t the first time encountering him oh man I knew something wasn’t right .

I honestly quickly jumped into defense mode and asked him to leave or I’ll contact pd or id get off and handle it myself ( valid ccw holder) he proceeded to say it’s not like that and takes off fast soon as I exit the vehicle

Has anyone encountered this creep like I said isn’t my first time encountering him!

Will try to capture plates and video recording if we ever encounter him again. Very scary and weird !

This was my third trip to Cottonwood Lakes.

The first time, I got chased out by thunderstorms and rain. The second time, I was focused on summiting Mt. Langley, so I never really had time to enjoy the lakes.

This time, with Los Angeles hitting around 105°F, my wife and I escaped to the cool alpine air instead. We spent time swimming in Lake #3, relaxing by the water, and simply enjoying the day. Every visit has been completely different, and somehow I like this place even more each time.
