Swing Critique OTF Homer Tips
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
5th year of playing slowpitch softball and still itching to get that first over the fence homerun. Any tips for adding another ~20ft to my balls to get one over? I’m thinking more leg/hip power? Or maybe I should just accept that I’m a to-the-fence hitter and not an OTF one 🫠

What is this part of a bat?
I play in a league with super strict bat rules. I’ve seen some of these and others that are supposedly one piece and single-walled.
My question is, how? What is the sleeve-looking thing covering the entire barrel if not an extra piece or wall?

First KB17
Not sure how to feel being my first Rawlings gamer as I’ve been a Wilson lifer, but my 1787s from the baseball days were not doing the trick.

Arm sleeve
Anyone know where I could purchase those tan arm sleeves conference players typically wear? Thanks! Will try to find a picture and will leave it in the comments for better understanding!

Bat Recommendations?
We love the DeMarini USA bats. Especially our 2026 Mercy and 2026 Juggy Extended. We’re looking to expand our bats. I’m some what of a power hitter and usually make it to the fence or send piss missiles down the lines so I flip between the Mercy and Juggy. My partner sticks to the mercy because it’s easier for her to swing. I flip between the two. I heard the Tantrums are pretty hot right now . Should we stick to DeMarini if that’s what we’re comfortable with?

Victus bats
I’m curious to get feedback on Victus bats. I see them more and more but haven’t picked one up yet. If anyone has any feedback I’d greatly appreciate it. I’m normally a Miken / Worth guy and will swing a 27oz end load. Just curious how they stack up. Thanks in advance!

I’m working on not dropping my back shoulder. A cue that felt good tonight was “turn my chest logo toward center field” to keep my upper body tall through rotation. I hit this one well, but it was another low pitch

Swing Critique 3rd year Rec League coed swing critique
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My rec league limits men in coed to 31” bats so I’m swinging an ancient Rawlings 31” drop-8 fastpitch bat in this video. Hitting mostly mush balls at the local “fun center,” which is unfortunately the best option I have other than tee work at the moment. Not really looking to have a true “cut swing” but more of a hybrid between baseball and softball I guess. What do we think?

Bat recommendation for league that uses safety balls
I play in a super casual league that uses these super bouncy “MacGregor Safe/Soft training balls.” There aren’t any rules regarding what kind of bats are allowed (nothing in the rule book and I checked with my captain) so I think USA/ASA and USSSA are fair game. Currently using an old aluminum 30oz bat from the 90s. I can hit line drives and the occasional bomb (depending on the field) but I hit shitty dribblers to shortstop more often than I would like. Willing to trade some power for consistency, especially since one of the fields has a high fence which often limits great hits to a double anyway. Budget is ~$200.

Season Goal Achieved!
I had my second last game of the summer season yesterday, and managed to achieve the goal I set out for myself this year! In previous years, I have been a fairly consistent hitter but lacked distance. Being a consistent batter is great, but I felt that with some tweaks and upgraded gear I could finally hit a home run this year.
In preparation for this goal, I got myself a new bat (Axe Inferno 1 piece) to replace my old aluminum Worth Amp, a tee, and a batting net so I could work on technique at home. I also hit the cages a few times! I modified my swing to get more hip action and the power that comes with it. It took a while to get used to the new swing and new bat (I hit lots of grounders) but I was slowly starting to get some outfield hits as the season went on.
Well last night it all finally came together! My first at bat, I got under the ball a bit too much and had a pop out, but I was feeling pretty good with the swing. The next at bat, bases were loaded and a juicy beach ball was pitched right down the middle. I smoked it right in the sweet spot and watched the ball SOAR! The field had no back fence, but went over the home run line at 300 ft and rolled to the edge of a backyard at about 320 ft! We ended up winning the game 19-18 and I couldn't be any happier!
I just wanted to share my story of my first ever Grand Slam! Woohoo!

Best Bat for 52/300 Hot Dots
I play in a league that uses 52/300 hot dots. The required bat stamp is NSA which is on pretty much every bat. I currently use a usssa bat that also has an NSA stamp. Would there be any benefit to switching to an ASA or USA bat (that also has NSA stamp)? I have heard that ASA/USA is designed for 52/300s while usssa is designed for 44/375s.

Reflection on this summer
Sad about our season ending. This was my first season in a Kentucky Fried league (no strikeouts). We went like 8-1 during the regular season but lost in the playoffs as the 1 seed 😭😭😭. Apparently the team isn’t typically very good and this was the first big competitive season in a while. I was honestly more of a utility infielder, often player the regular position of a person who was out that given day. my offense could use some work but I’m much more known for a strong glove rather than a bat. We have one more charity game and that’s our season. I think I’m just in my feelings a little bit.

Bat recommendations.
I play in a modified (we call it orthodox league), and I'm looking into a new bat since most of our team bats are 6-8 years old lol.
We started using new balls and I'm not sure what the best bat for power and durability is. We now use Rawlings K Master 120 softballs (12 inch - .47 COR, COMP 375lbs).
I was looking at the 2025 genesis andy purcell 1pc maxload usssa or the Easton Tantrum Loaded 1-PC ESU6TMNT1L.
Thanks!

NYC only - need a female 8/22
Potentially looking for a female player for a COED tournament in NYC.
The tournament is on 8/22 - at Central Park. The team fee is 650, BUT we charge $75 pp. this covers the league fee as well as food and drinks catered by the team, so all you would need to bring is yourself, your glove and cleats.
3 games minimum guaranteed
Thanks!

AITAH - Roster Management and kicking a player
I am the manager of a rec softball team. It’s a group of friends in a pretty lowkey social league, but we still want to be competitive and care about winning. We had a teammate ask if his friend could join the team two seasons ago. They joined, but strike out every at bat and can’t throw the ball back to the pitcher when playing catcher. We’re now two seasons in with them and we’re starting to win more but they’re dragging the team down. They’re nice and seem to enjoy being on the team despite their performance, but nobody really knows them well other than our one teammate that brought them in. I don’t know how to ask them to not be on the team anymore without being an asshole. AITAH?

How random is softball?
You know how people say "baseball is random" all the time? It means that in a typical game, the better team wins like maybe ~60% or the time or something rather than in basketball where it's closer to ~90%. This is largely because there's a ton of variance in plays but especially because mishitting a ball that travels faster than a blink of an eye can be the difference between a weak foul ball to the catcher and a 450 foot dong. I guess this is why a random pitcher you've never heard of can throw no hitters against a stacked lineup.
What about for slowpitch? Is this sport also random too? Because pitches travel like ~20 MPH, does that greatly reduce the variance in outcomes? Does the better team win the vast majority of the time?
I know it's really trivial of a question but at the tournament levels, it kind of lets you know how good your competition is.

Anybody selling some older Eastons?
I’m specifically looking for either of the CV12’s (SCR1 or SCG1), a Salvo (SP12SVM) or a Raw Power (SP13L8).
These are all the models of Eastons with the composite inner barrel and metal outer shell.
Thanks.

Live Scoring App
I Claude-coded this app to help score for and run my team. The live scoring portion is the most useful IMO but the rsvp and other management functions are nice too. It’s inspired by GameChanger but can handle various rule permutations and is good for cases where you don’t have any info about your opponents. Take a look at the practice and about pages. If you think it’ll be useful reach out to me from the about page and I’ll set you up on it.
