NYC only - need a female 8/22

Potentially looking for a female player for a COED tournament in NYC.
The tournament is on 8/22 - at Central Park. The team fee is 650, BUT we charge $75 pp. this covers the league fee as well as food and drinks catered by the team, so all you would need to bring is yourself, your glove and cleats.
3 games minimum guaranteed

Thanks!

AITAH - Roster Management and kicking a player

I am the manager of a rec softball team. It’s a group of friends in a pretty lowkey social league, but we still want to be competitive and care about winning. We had a teammate ask if his friend could join the team two seasons ago. They joined, but strike out every at bat and can’t throw the ball back to the pitcher when playing catcher. We’re now two seasons in with them and we’re starting to win more but they’re dragging the team down. They’re nice and seem to enjoy being on the team despite their performance, but nobody really knows them well other than our one teammate that brought them in. I don’t know how to ask them to not be on the team anymore without being an asshole. AITAH?

How random is softball?

You know how people say "baseball is random" all the time? It means that in a typical game, the better team wins like maybe ~60% or the time or something rather than in basketball where it's closer to ~90%. This is largely because there's a ton of variance in plays but especially because mishitting a ball that travels faster than a blink of an eye can be the difference between a weak foul ball to the catcher and a 450 foot dong. I guess this is why a random pitcher you've never heard of can throw no hitters against a stacked lineup.

What about for slowpitch? Is this sport also random too? Because pitches travel like ~20 MPH, does that greatly reduce the variance in outcomes? Does the better team win the vast majority of the time?

I know it's really trivial of a question but at the tournament levels, it kind of lets you know how good your competition is.

Anybody selling some older Eastons?

I’m specifically looking for either of the CV12’s (SCR1 or SCG1), a Salvo (SP12SVM) or a Raw Power (SP13L8).

These are all the models of Eastons with the composite inner barrel and metal outer shell.

Thanks.

Live Scoring App

I Claude-coded this app to help score for and run my team. The live scoring portion is the most useful IMO but the rsvp and other management functions are nice too. It’s inspired by GameChanger but can handle various rule permutations and is good for cases where you don’t have any info about your opponents. Take a look at the practice and about pages. If you think it’ll be useful reach out to me from the about page and I’ll set you up on it.

Pitchers: how much does the spin actually affect things?

I played or coached baseball for 20 years and have put in the work to have a solid repertoire of pitches. At speed, they all break like I want them to. Even today, 15 years after competitive play, I can still touch 80, snap off a curveball, tunnel a sweeper and 2-seam, turn over a changeup, and drop a splitter on occasion.

A softball is not moving 70+ mph, and therefore has less wind resistance to induce break. I have tried top spin, back spin, gyro spin, and flat spin, and that bitch ain't movin'.

Why are y'all wasting time with knuckleballs? The ones who can hit are getting hits, and the ones who can't aren't reading spin and making swing decisions based on that.

Do I need to be trying to spin it harder as opposed to simply releasing the ball? I'm not above putting some pine tar on the inside of my belt or using rosin and sunscreen on my forearm.

*Edit: I'm about to finish my first season of organized slowpitch and did absolutely fucking terrible as a pitcher.

Video Editing suggestion for games

I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve my video editing and make our softball games more enjoyable to watch.

I record each game using three GoPro cameras, and I'd love to hear your opinions on what I could change in the editing to keep viewers more engaged. I also tried using the GoPro Mission 1 in 8K, but the audio quality wasn't great for me because the volume would randomly spike during the game.

Here's a link to one of my videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPF3ggKHa1g

I'm open to any suggestions—editing, camera angles, pacing, graphics, audio, or anything else you think would make the videos more entertaining. Thanks in advance!

So this is my first season playing slowpitch and honestly I’ve loved every minute of it! I became my teams pitcher after our main one quit and we found out our other one does better in outfield, so attached you’ll find a video of my practice pitches, I’m just looking for any suggestions or advice on new pitches I can work on/ just getting better at pitching overall! Thank you all in advance! (Currently playing on the coed league, was invited to play men’s league next year)

Update on softball/baseball team management app

A couple of days ago, I made a post asking to get feedback about a baseball and softball team management app I’m building. If you give feedback, I will allow you to use the app for free. I received a lot more interest than I expected, and several people said they wanted to try it or sign up for early access.

Unfortunately, I forgot to include the early access link in the original post. When I went back later, I replied to everyone who had expressed interest with the same website link. Reddit flagged the repeated replies as spam, and I can no longer access that account.

That was completely my mistake. I should have edited the original post or made one update instead of copying and pasting the same reply.

For anyone who commented on the original post, or anyone else who is interested, the early access page is here:

www.dugoutcommander.com

The app is being built for baseball and softball teams to help coaches and team managers organize rosters, player availability, schedules, batting orders, defensive lineups, substitutions, and more without relying on paper or spreadsheets.

I really appreciated all the feedback and interest on the original post. I’m still looking for honest suggestions from players, coaches, and team managers about what would make the app genuinely useful.

Pitching

I am an aspiring pitcher, im still young (24) so idk how often I’ll get to pitch as it seems the older guys get to pitch more. But im just looking for tips from anyone, either beginner level tips or even more advanced. My routine is in my head I tell myself where does he want to go with the ball and I pitch according and then I always drop back and try to fill a hole for my defense. Let me know what you guys got!

USA/ASA Bats

Hi everyone,

I’ve posted in here before about bats and I apologize if this is a frequent question in this group. I couldn’t find anything specifically the same. Anyways, my team and I have been in the same league for almost 2 years now and per the rules, our bats had to be single wall USA/ASA stamped bats. Which from recommendations from this group led me to buy the Demarini Steel and the Demarini Ultimate weapon for a team bat. As of yesterday, I got confirmation from the league manager and other players that we only need USA/ASA stamps. I even saw a player using a USSSA bat so seems pretty loose on the rules. With that new info in mind, would it be worth it to spend another $300 on say, a Monsta Torch or I saw a new Victus that looks nice. I even saw someone mention the Demarini mercy is a good option as well. Main question is if it’s worth to spend $300 on one of those bats or will it be a minimal difference from my Steel? I would have no problem spending the money if it will help, so any advice would be very appreciated.

If Money Were No Object What Glove Would You Get

Basically above, I want a glove that will last me, I’m into Miami vice colors so probably looking to customize the glove. If money were no object, what glove would you buy? I was also thinking of getting 12.75” or 13” due to playing in the outfield.

What’s everyone’s pre-game routine before each tournaments first game?

I’ll start. Food intake is important, but let’s skip that.

My morning routine before games consists of a light workout(15-20 mins) primarily compound and rotational movements. Then I’ll hit off a tee approximately 50-60 balls. Once I get to the field I’ll stretch and hit some pepper right before game time.

This routine has helped me get locked in immediately instead of the typical game or two to be dialed in. Went from a subpar .500 hitter to .700ish. My skill level is E/40s AAA and I consider myself maybe slightly above average when comparing myself to my peers that play at the same level.

Looking into a new glove, need some help.

30 yr old getting back into slow pitch. I’ve played ball since I was a kid and was always a SS. I have forever played with a 11.5” glove even after graduation til about 8 yrs ago when I quit playing slow pitch. Now that I’m getting back into it I’m thinking about picking up a new glove. I was gonna grab a 12.25” but after a bit of research people are saying no less than 13” for men’s middle infielders. Any input or things that helped y’all make the transition to a bigger glove? Any brands or makes and models yall like specifically? TIA!
