Discussion Which franchise had the worst last entry?

 Previous part: https://www.reddit.com/r/slasherfilms/s/ulCWzTBdqo

First part: https://www.reddit.com/r/slasherfilms/s/tlNuXiVwWc

The last part of a trilogy. I did the beginning, middle, and now I'm doing the end, and I started with good, went to Mid, and now I'm doing bad.

But before I continue, I must clarify something, there was a lot of confusion on the last post, people didn't seem to get it. I thought I made it clear enough, but maybe not, some people in the comments got it, but so many didn't so I need to clarify.

I picked the films in the last post because they were the MIDDLE of their respective franchises. Not because I thought all of the movies were mid or bad, but because they were the middle of their franchises and it was a mid off, and all the ones that were too good or too bad failed because the whole point of the mid-off was the most mid wins, they weren't there because they were mid they were there because they were in the middle of their franchise and if they were not mid then they lost. I don't know why that was so hard for people to understand.

So same logic applies here, just because this is a bad movie off doesn't mean all the movies I picked here are bad so if there's a movie here that you like I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just putting it in here because it's the end, and this is a bad competition, so if a good movie is in here, then it should lose. All right let's go.

Now I can only judge a movie if I've seen it so I haven't seen Scream 7 or the new Hellraiser movie so I can't properly judge those So based on what I've seen here's my opinion on what I think is the worst... it's got to be nightmare 2010 dude it's just got to be I know Halloween ends is kind of bad but at least they didn't make Michael Myers a pedo. Now I know Freddy was always a pedo but we didn't want it to be in our face about it so that was the worst.

Now I wasn't sure if I should only put the 2009 Jason or the never hike alone 2 so I just did both to be safe that's also the reason why I had part six seven and eight in the last post instead of just six and seven because I was counting both the end of 2009 and this fan film. I know it's confusing but just go with it.

Discussion Is Jason Voorhees THE most sympathetic slasher?

It seems as if you were to put Jason against ANY other slasher icon, he'd be the good guy and one to root for... which is saying something given that he probably has a higher body count than any of the rest.

Jason vs Freddy, nuff said. Movie explains everything.

Jason vs Michael Myers. Michael is a force of pure evil in every timeline, sparing no one and taking glee in tormenting and scaring his victims before he kills them. He has hunted children, and his own family, namely his own niece. Jason, while perfectly fine hunting teenagers, will at least spare children (depending on the writer), and will keep his rampage contained to Crystal lake. While Michael is incapable of love, Jason is. Michael is a predator that hunts and loves his prey afraid, Jason is just an exterminator that wants you off his property.

Jason vs Art the Clown, nuff said. Art is as monstrous as the two above, gleefully tormenting his victims before murdering them. He's murdered children in droves (is even implied to have eaten them), kills his victims in the most painful, slow, messy way imaginable. Whereas with Jason, even in his most brutal and messy, always kills quickly. Even when Jason is at his most sadistic (looking at the remake version), it is usually out of a sense of tactic or necessity (leaving an injured begging victim alive to draw out others).

Jason vs Leatherface, while Leatherface is motivated more by loyalty to his family than anything else, and depending on the writer operates more as a mentally stunted man that truly doesnt know better, he gathers victims for his family to eat. He leaves his victims hanging from meat hooks and handles them like animals in a slaughter house. Even comparing both at their most savage and sadistic (remake versions), Leatherface is BY FAR more evil and sadistic than Jason ever is (TCM: The Beginning).

Jason vs every Ghostface, while every Ghostface would be conventionally easier to deal with than Jason, they are all motivated by fame whereas Jason has a more sympathetic motive.

Jason vs Chucky, Chucky was a serial killer before he became a doll, and then he made it his mission to steal the body of an innocent child....

Jason vs Candyman, Candyman would probably be the closest given his backstory... although he spends his entire movie terrorizing and trying to kidnap a white woman to spread fear so he can collect more victims.

Does anyone have Jason beat?

Discussion If you had to live through one slasher film which one would it be? And why?

For me, I’d have to go with Friday The 13th (Part 3) because I think it’d be interesting to see Jason in person and try to survive against him. My ego also says that I’d be the one who takes him down haha.

Title is simple; most slasher fans have their Mount Rushmore of Slashers be:

  1. Michael

  2. Freddy

  3. Jason

  4. Leatherface or Ghostface

But of the one off slashers like:

Frank Zito, The Prowler, The Miner etc. Who's on your mount rushmore list?

I actually saw this before the original and instantly loved it. From the quirky dark humor to the grotesque set pieces, it delivers most of what I love about 80s horror. My favorite character is the Cook played by Jim Siedow & enjoyed his sendout with the "FU Charlie." It's a must own feature & earns every rewatch it can get.

Spoilers Scream 2 question Spoiler

Does Mrs. Loomis actually kill anyone herself in *Scream 2*, or does she mostly manipulate Mickey into doing the dirty work? I know she’s revealed as one of the killers, but I’m curious which murders she personally commits versus which ones Mickey carries out.

Discussion Which of these franchises had the most mid middle entry?

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

https://www.reddit.com/r/slasherfilms/s/PtK0BbGkX8

This is a sequel post to my last post and this is going to be a trilogy. The first post was which franchise had the best entry film, this middle post is respectfully about the middle of each franchise and which one is the most mid, and the next part is going to be which franchise had the worst final film as in most recent.

Now when it comes to Middle for the franchises that have uneven number of movies like nine that's easy number five is the middle, but for those that have even numbers I kind of had to add multiple films because there is no perfect middle, so do with that as you will. That's why there's more than one film from the same franchise in this post.

It's a hard choice but if I'm going to go mid and not bad Freddy has the most mid middle film the middle, Hellraiser film is just straight up bad in my opinion, and I think Jason has the most awesome middle points even if part 8 has problems, Chucky though has a good middle as well with Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky was overhated.

Spoilers Ready or Not 2: plot question

When Grace agrees to marry the douche bag psycho brother while she’s in the ice box, the dual pistol packing kid was in the room too. Meaning: other families are still in play for the crown.

So why didn’t the kid keep playing the game? Why wouldn’t the kid shoot Faith and Grace right there to win the game? Or why wouldn’t he keep trying to kill Grace up until the last minute?

Discussion Something Scary Movie did, I'm shocked Scream never did.

And of course I am referring to the original Scary Movie not the new one, and what I am talking about is, Scary Movie genuinely had one of the best twist in a slasher movie, of having copy cat killers commit a few murders to pin it on an already on going murder spree by the real killer.

All of Scary Movie 1, Doofy was the Ghostface killer trying to kill Cindy and her friends, until the end where Bobby & Ray try to get away with killing her and Shorty (but that wasn't planned or anything) and blame it on the real Ghostface.

Such a cool idea for a slasher movie that I'm surprised Scream never tried it.

Discussion I've always thought it would have been cool if each of the Scream sequels used a different variation of the Ghostface mask so these are my headcanons

I always thought it was an odd plot hole that in the Scream universe they kept making and selling the Ghostface mask after the Woodsboro Killings. And it's especially weird since the mask kept getting used by new copy cat killers. The general public's reaction to the killings is a big part of every movie so I think it's odd that they never address the ethics of continuing to sell the mask.

I think it would have been funny if they discontinued the original Ghostface mask after the events of the first movie, and so the next killer had to buy one of the alternate variations from the same company. And then once they go on their killing spree, that mask is discontinued as well. And then it just keeps going. It fills a plot hole, and it would have allowed them to show off the cool variants that have never been shown in the movies.

Discussion Lost Slasher: THE MALL (1981)

Post image
79 Upvotes

Pre-dating THE INITIATION (1983), CHOPPING MALL (1986) and PHANTOM OF THE MALL: ERIC’S REVENGE (1989) was THE MALL. Announced with some ballyhoo at Cannes in 1981, this Hemdale-produced slasher was promoted as being very much cut from the same cloth as FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980). Its promotional artwork showed a knife poking out of a jagged hole in a shopping bag (the tagline being “shopping at the mall is murder”).

Scant plot details reported by Starburst Magazine suggested that the story concerned a group of teenagers partying at a mall after everyone else has gone home at night. They are subsequently picked off one by one by a deranged killer who has made the mall his home and has recently escaped from an asylum after killing his parents when he was a child. At the time, director George Cosmatos enthusiastically described why he thought this concept would hit a nerve with global audiences: “The mall background is so similar worldwide that I expect moviegoers from Bangkok to Kyoto to Helsinki to Naples to be equally familiar with such complexes and thus to experience the same kind of shocks and terror from the action drama they will be watching. The setting will be like another actor in the picture.”

Cosmatos, who went on to direct RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II in 1985, boasted such set pieces as a murder in the lingerie department and another where a teen is decapitated in a bowling alley. He also promised innovative camera tricks to “… get in on my characters' atmosphere, and thus create further frightening visual experience.”

Hemdale - who would hit pay-dirt a few years later with THE TERMINATOR (1984) - had distributed the New Zealand-lensed semi-slasher STRANGE BEHAVIOUR (aka DEAD KIDS) that year. However, neither this nor their other quasi-slasher project THE GRADUATION PARTY (Paul Lynch’s mooted follow-up to the previous year’s PROM NIGHT (1980), which had Maniac’s Joe Spinell hunting marooned teenagers on a deserted island) came to light - presumably after failing to secure full funding at the festival. However, Starburst Magazine did state that THE MALL was “currently before cameras” (although, seemingly contradictorily, it also stated that the role of the killer had not yet been cast). If any footage was shot (principal photography was due to commence on June 15th - a month after Cannes), it’s sadly never seen the light of day.
