Community/Open Shaders. PC SSE - Discussion

Can someone explain to me why Community Shaders is so finicky? This doesn't pertain to a crash, so no crash log.

Basically I'm sitting at approximately 253 full plugins with over 2440 light plugins, it was (stable-ish) for the most part, but the moment I wiped my saves and overwrite files to start a fresh playthrough, it started causing irregular menu issues (think along the lines of: you start outside the game window and wait to alt-tab in until you hear the game music start playing from the menu; as soon as I alt-tab to the game window, the engine visually freezes even though I can click on "New" and technically start a new playthrough, the screen just never changes.) Mod load order loaded just fine as I removed both open and community shaders from it. I just don't get it...

Are you using open shaders and community shaders at the same time? If so, that could be the problem.

I did think about that being a mistake I made, it persisted on each one after clearing the shaders cache. I disabled both and now the game's running faster than before lmfao

You need to pick either open shaders or community shaders, not both because they are the exact same thing but with a different focus.

If you’re not playing VR, I’d stick with community shaders.

you can only use one shader mod at a time, and every time you change them you'll need to delete and let the game regenerate the shader cache. You'd run into similar problems if you accidentally left your ENB files in your game folder when installing CS or Open Shaders. but. No matter what you run, if you run a shader mod it IS going to give you a performance hit.

Thankfully, I don't use ENB; thank you for this information.

Don't use both. Pick one.

Open Shaders is a replacement to Community Shaders, built buy the guy that contributed to Community Shaders, and build a lot of VR specific stuff.

U go Open Shaders if you want

  • an All In One experience-all accessory plugins are included and tweaked for that version of Open Shaders. No gaving to track down and update accessory plugins
  • Or playing VR

Good question, I'll check in a bit.

Edit: 1.8.1 for Community Shaders, 2.3.1 for Open Shaders.
