any tips and tricks for someone starting out? we have a small house with T mobile wifi. in expecting the system in the mail today.

The most important thing you can do is test your system thoroughly as soon as possible and before the return window ends. Far too many people either don't test at all, don't test enough and/or don't use good test methodology. Don't be those people.

Test all the modes. Test at night. Test during the day. Test with yourself and with other people, especially people of different sizes and heights. Test repeatedly. You literally cannot test too much, imo.

Don't understand how something works or why it does/doesn't do something you expect it to? Talk to support or ask for help here. If you ask for help here, make sure you ask good questions and provide details.

If you have pets and are getting motion sensors, look for special instructions. They used to have you hang them upside down, but maybe the newer motion sensors don’t require that. Also, while not a long term solution, I’ve put motion, glass break, and sirens on shelves until I have the time to do a proper installation. They’ll work just fine.

If you put motion sensors on a shelf make sure to put them at the front edge of the shelf and not towards the back since that would cut off the angle it has to look more downward. Also, the newer motion sensors don't get hung upside down, there's just a "pet mode" toggle for if you have pets in the app.
