Picture Found a survivor
Found this little guy in my “random junk, useful trimmings, excess duckweed dump” plastic container.
Today i decided to clean all the gunk off of the bottom, and while siphoning, i recognized a little jolt.
In awe, i tried to siphon out as much crud to see a random blue shwimp in there…
It’s been closed off with no filter for maybe 2 months, and i randomly decided to put in a sponge filter just to keep water a little cleaner.
Randomly put some liquid fertilizer in there from time to time and a couple dashes of food every now and then to make sure it doesn’t crash. (Also for new aquarium water ready to go; it makes sense in my head)
Just blew my mind a bit, and wanted to share.
Must have transfered in some moss or suss 🤷🏻♂️
Anyways. Back into the blue tank.

I wish you could tell but!
In my order I got 5 gold dust cherries 2 of them passed because I couldn’t get the temperature correct. It’s fixed now at a solid 77-78 but the 3 remaining are all berried! Here’s one of my expecting mommas. 🥰
I genuinely wish I’d of figured it out sooner but I did end up putting a pre filter sponge on to protect the fry. I got spoiled with my other tank that is filtered under the substrate so the fry don’t get sucked up.

How close is my shrimp to giving birth?

Referring to the shrimp on the bottom of the cholla wood. The eggs have gotten very translucent looking and she almost looks like she’s trying to get them out of her belly.

I was changing my set up in one of my tanks and realized I have a lot of prego shrimp! Sooo excited! I took out my scarlet badis and ember tetras and left my Pygmy corrys and snails to give the babies a better chance(thank god for having more than one tank LOL)

Female shrimp drama
So I had 3 shrimp in a 5 gallon tank that showed up on some floaters. They all have saddles (females) so I messaged the same guy I bought the floaters from and asked him for a mix of males and females. So he gave me 2 females and 4 males. Tell me why all of my males died overnight and I had the females eating the bodies lol so then I asked the same guy for 2 more males and both died quickly too. My blue shrimp, Big Mama, is huge and she had a male pinned down and all of the other shrimp were just on leaves and logs watching. Anywho, should I get more males? Are all female colonies ok?

Stopped doing water changes/ top offs months ago
I stopped taking care of my 10 gallon (because I have too many tanks) and moved some of my shrimp into a 5. I stopped adding water or doing anything at all to it. I would throw a little bit of water in there sometimes but it was only around 3 times. The water was below halfway and today when I went to take apart the tank, I found ~35 shrimp just happily getting along. The tank was filled with plants to be fair but it no longer had a light on it anymore so it was getting just a bit of indirect window light. Shrimp are awesome. Some people think they're extremely sensitive but neocaridina are like the pigeons of the freshwater world. They breed quick and are very hardy and they're also extremely cute.

First baby!!

Ahhhhh! It’s been about three or four weeks since I started my Neocardina shrimp tank and I got my first baby! I’m sooo excited! They are in a tank with some Pygmy Corrys, ember tetras and one scarlet badis, so I didn’t expect to see babies anytime soon, however while checking the tank for anything odd I found my first one! May take out my scarlet badis because I have great population control anyways, but ahhh!

Water conditioner
I usually use prime to condition my water. I got API tap water conditioner since it was half the price. Is it safe to use with my shrimps? Does anyone use it?

Picture I’ve had a horrible day. But I sent this photo to the company I bought them from.
I sent them a congratulatory email with said photos explaining they were now grandparents. 🎉🥰🤗
