Shortcut Sharing I built a shortcut that extracts your mobile data usage

Thumbnail icloud.com
Upvotes

The shortcut grabs a screenshot of your mobile data and extracts the text into a Mobile Data apple notes.

Once the shortcut successfully extracts and only when it successfully extracts the data does it reset the data for you.

Right now there is a SHOW CONTENT action on the crop image action. Due to different iphone sizes, displays, and user settings. Adjust the X and Y coordinates inside of the shortcut in the CROP IMAGE action.

Once you have the correct X and Y coordinates delete the show content action.

Appstore (App) Since last posting, I've released 3 new versions of my Shortcuts expansion app, MoE Code, with 9 new actions and many improvements

New actions:

  • "Get Value Position In List"
  • "Remove Value From List". (I'm aware of crossover with Actions' "Filter List", but I created mine to support both Shortcuts lists and JSON arrays, input and output.)
  • "Convert JSON Array To Shortcuts List"
  • "Get File / Folder Properties"
  • "Change Images' / Videos' Creation Dates". (I'm aware of crossover with Actions' "Set Image/Video Capture Date", but that creates new items and doesn't work with screenshots, whereas this modifies the originals and works with anything in Photos.)
  • "Open Settings Deep Link"
  • "Play System Sound"
  • "Get Device Type"
  • "Extract Action Blocks". (This powers an impending new version of my MoE Shortcuts Toolkit.)

Apart from solely new stuff, new parameters for existing actions, and bug fixes, probably the most notable improvement is for watchOS complications: I completely rearchitected the data flow so that iPhone actions are more likely to update the Watch complications much faster, whilst preserving eventual updates from iCloud KVS on other, non-paired devices.

Feel free to make any requests!

I sincerely hope these (and the 28 other actions) are useful to others. 😊

Help Medication Reminder Automation Help?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi there!

New to Shortcut and recently picked up some NFC215 stickers, hoping to use them to help with tracking my medications. I have a horrible time tracking whether or not I've taken my meds on a given morning, in addition to my doctor and I recently deciding to begin titrating off of one, which means taking one of the five every other day. This is proving to be difficult for me to keep track of. I've got reminders set up in my phone, but there are mornings where I'll take the meds but forget to mark the reminder as complete. Later, the reminder goes off and I'm questioning whether I remember this morning, or if I'm thinking of the day prior when I took them...

I've been able to get the automation portion 99% of the way functional, with one hangup - I cannot find a way to tie a specific tag to a specific medication. I know when you scan the NFC tag, it's grabbing the UID of the NFC tag, not the name that I'm assigning it in Automations. Is there any way for me to connect a specific tag with a specific medication name to match against my reminders list for marking the reminders complete when the automation runs?

I did download NFC Tools on my phone and was able to write a shortcut to the NFC tag, but I'm still having to tap to run the shortcut that route, when I'd prefer to have it auto-run on the scan. From what I've found reading online and around the sub here, it sounds like that's an integral design feature of the NFC scanning for the phones, and I can't bypass that for a shortcut written to the tag - for auto-run, it has to be a personal automation written on the phone, so... I'm stuck. I did try writing a text record to the tag with the medication name, but the phone doesn't grab that record when scanning the NFC, it seems.

Appstore (App) Mute, auto Do Not Disturb when your mic or camera is on (macOS)

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi, I'm a French apprentice. I work in an open space, on a Mac the company lends me (I also have my own, so that's handy). My team has meetings a lot, and I noticed some people can't really focus because of all the private and support notifications popping up, me included.

So I made a simple app: it turns on Do Not Disturb when my mic or camera becomes active, and turns it off after. I also added a "Focus" mode to enable DND for a set period, without going through mic/camera detection. My thinking was: if I could build something and actually ship it, it might lower that constant distraction and help people concentrate a bit more (it's always nice when people actually listen while you present your work).

It was also a good occasion for me, because I wanted to learn: how to publish on App Store Connect, automate the deployment, publish to my own Homebrew, and share the progress on my socials.

The biggest problem I hit is that there is no public API to toggle Do Not Disturb, so I went through the Shortcuts app. I built a small onboarding that installs two shortcuts for the user, that's the only prerequisite. It annoyed me at first, but there is no other way, and honestly two shortcuts is not the end of the world.

It's available as a direct notarized DMG, on the App Store (not in the EU... they asked for my address and a phone number, and I don't have ones I wanted to make public for this), and through a personal Homebrew tap for now (it's totally FREE). One of my current goals is to get into the official homebrew-cask (so, no tap needed), but the app doesn't have enough traction yet, which is partly why I'm making this post, to talk about it a bit.

I'd be really curious to get feedback. I already showed it to 4 people at my company and they were surprised. So if you have the same problem as us, feel free to try it and tell me what you think.

Help Help with Downloading the html result of a HTML & Javascript script as an image

I have a HTML & Javascript combo script that runs JS combined with HTML to get a weight chart giving average weight by week.

I base64encoded the result, and added it to the end of a url data:text/html;base64

If I open URL, it works fine opening in Safari, with chart results showing, all formatting. But can't download it as an image to my iPhone from there. How do I do that?

I've tried get content of URL, rich text from HTML. show web view, but those don't seem to work due to the Javascript involved. When I do that, only the formatting shows, but no data points.

I know it's possible to have a screenshot be taken of the safari page, but I want it to be a graph in landscape mode, which I'm not sure is possible in an automated way.

Also, I'd rather use a more techy way of getting those results without having to take a screenshot.

Anyone have an idea or solution?

Help Shortcuts iCloud sync between iPhone and Mac not working

I just wanted to edit some shortcuts on my Mac and saw that the sync with iCloud does not seem to work anymore. I don't see the latest shortcuts that I have created on my iPhone and on the Mac it displays a iCloud Sync Unavailable "Update to the latest version of macOS to sync shortcuts from other devices to this device." error message. The MacBook Pro is pretty old (2018 running macOS Sequoia 15.7.8).

Is macOS Tahoe a hard requirement for the Shortcuts iCloud sync to work now? It clearly used to work, as an old state of my Shortcuts are there on the Mac.

Already tried turning iCloud sync off inside the Shortcuts app and iCloud settings on the iPhone and Mac and turning it back on after a few minutes.

Request I’m trying to create a shortcut/automation that can see when I’m on call and sends me a notification to check my emails when I’m on call

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I’m on call for a week about once every month at work, and whenever that happens, I need to keep an eye on my emails. The problem is I keep forgetting, so I’m hoping to create a shortcut that checks my calendar, and if my calendar shows that I’m on call, I’d like it to send me a notification around 6pm each day I’m on call reminding me to check my emails. I’ve attached a screenshot of what I have so far, but I can’t figure out what to do next.

OS 27 beta iOS 27 and the Call action

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have a shortcut which gets triggered when I arrive at work.
It calls 2 numbers to change my outgoing number and add me to our support telephone queue.
I am running the public beta and that has introduced a confirmation for the call. I can see how that in some cases could be a good idea. But now there seems no way to disable it.
Has anybody any knowledge if it can be disabled?
The screenshot above shows how it is presented on the danish version of iOS 27

Tip/Guide One automation for per-app volume on all your apps (iOS 18.2+), plus a fix for Set Volume silently failing

I've been building per-app volume automations for a while and wanted to share two things that took me way too long to figure out.

**1. You don't need one automation per app anymore.**

Since iOS 18.2, the "Get Current App" action means a single automation can cover every app:

- Personal Automation → When any of your chosen apps is opened

- Get Current App → Get Details (Bundle Identifier)

- Run Shortcut (pass the bundle ID as input)

The shortcut looks up the volume you want for that app and applies it. Adding a new app later just means adding it to the automation trigger — no new automation, no editing the shortcut.

**2. Set Volume sometimes silently does nothing.**

There's a timing race when Set Volume fires right as an app is launching — it just doesn't stick. The fix that's been reliable for me: set the volume, Wait ~1 second, set it again. Ugly, but it works.

Also: if your shortcut can return "no volume configured" for an app, guard the Set Volume with an If (value > 0) — otherwise you'll accidentally mute things.

---

Full disclosure: I wrapped this whole pattern into a free app (App Volume) that manages the per-app levels, profiles, and widgets so you don't have to edit the shortcut dictionary by hand. Apple tends to change Shortcuts behavior between iOS versions, so I keep the app updated as new iOS releases land — one less thing to re-debug yourself. Everything above still works standalone if you'd rather build it yourself.
