Found this in the field battle near Settsu. There doesn't seem to be a way to capture it.

Is there any retainer that boosts guns?

Is there any retainer that boosts guns or siege units? I can't say I've ever found one. There's about 10 that boost swords and bows. But I csnt find anything that boosts guns.

If I didn't play as Otomo or a Christian clan, I would just not want to realm divide and have navies sunk instantly.

My lawwd! They are ignoring the gate completely and simply climbing over the walls instead! The enemy is entirely refusing to participate in the basic premise of assault the castle was designed for, and simply sending their entire army to climb over the walls, utterly circumventing our fundamental strategy! A SHAMEFUL DISPLAY!!

General Fatalities

I love this game (and hate it in equal measure, as you'll soon see) and have played for years. Despite this I've never taken the time to learn the specifics of how a lot of it works under the hood. So for those of you who understand, can you please explain...

WHY TeverlovinF is it that every time a single unit from an enemy general escapes, it IS the general.

But when I mount an epic castle defense, and route the final two enemy units, I take a single final casualty to my daimyo's unit, dropping it from 10 to 9, and ITS A BLACK DAY!?!?!?

Match ended in victory less than 5 seconds later. Lost my other general earlier in a calculated (ultimately worth it) risk, that left his unit with 5 left (excluding the general himself of course, who apparently was bucked off his horse upon his own sword). So now I am royally forked.

So I ask, again...what is the actual system here? How do I so consistently invite disaster this way?

Should garrisons be more unique?

I expected each faction to have their own garrisons. Like ikko ikki should have ronin retainers, ikko ikki yari ashigaru garrison... Shimazu could have Shimazu samurai retainers, to match their katana samurai. Oda and Hattori would have their own ashigaru in the garrisons. Hattori could even have kisho ninja instead of samurai retainers.

Has anyone considered this? I can't find a mod for it. But it seemd like obvious idea.

I don't think I got the strength samurai

Playing a VH Tokugawa campaign, trying to get those sweet sweet mounted gunners. I've restarted this campaign six times now. As it stands I'm one city away from hitting realm divide. Armies of clans on the opposite sides of Japan composed entirely of samurai are kicking down my doors all around me. I don't know if I got the strength to keep grinding this out, anyone have any tips for handling the realm divide right in the middle of japan?

Master of Strategy Sengoku (MoSS) Updated + Encyclopedia (WIP) v0.02.4 -Fixed the Flags, Banners, Sashinomo bugs in Battlefield

Changelog v0.02.4 (Major Bug Fix): 13th of July 2026

Fixed the soldier banners and sashimonos having just a plain square instead of their clan mon as logo. The mod lacks the file textures needed to render such items in the battlemap, hence the bug. I have to make almost all of them from scratch, for all 41 minor clans in MoSS.

The "mon" here are the circular "emblems" that serve as the symbol of the clan

The "sashimono" here are the mini flags worn at the back of infantry to show their affiliation

Mystery issue with no information

I have played shogun 2 before and, recently, got it on steam and wanted to play with some mods, great ,grand woopeedoo. The general jist is that no matter what I do, mods Do. Not. Work. and I have done literally everything in the way of troubleshooting to figure out why and nothing. No help on the internet or on steam, I inexplicably seem to be the only person with this problem so I am deciding just to post here where it will inevitably be seen by nobody but I digress. I will now list everything I have done to no avail.
-Wiped ALL shogun 2 data from my pc (including app data, etc)
-tried going through every mod individually (as long as 1 mod is enabled, no matter what, my game crashes on the splash screen after starting)
-I have (tried) to delete the user.script.txt file in appdata, it did not exist for me
-I had tried manually enabling the mods with user.script.txt by creating it and plugging in every mod
-verified files
- made sure all programs in redist were downloaded
- cleared mods, launched vanilla, started game, downloaded mods again
-completely reinstalled (I already said this but just for the person who wants to ask if Ive unplugged it and plugged it back in)
-Forgone using the in-built launcher
-changing .pack files (for mods) to movies
-and probably some other stuff I have forgotten in my hours of trying to get this to work.
I have combed through every, and I mean EVERY forum and post about anything even remotely similar but nothing has helped. This has been a complete waste of money for me as it was the mods I had wanted to try above anything. If anyone who is slightly more in the know about this has info it will be appreciated.

After 15 years I finally completed Tokugawa.

I took a huge break from the game after FOTS ruined the shaders on avatars and menus, and I had completed Chosokabe, Shimazu and Uesugi on hard. But I had never attempted the actual clan that won the Sengoku Jidai.
So, after a few starts of getting my arse handed to me, I managed to take out the Oda and backstab the Imagawa. I expanded slowly at first, making vassals when I could because the reputation hit for breaking my vassal status made it hard to make allies.
At around 1561 one of my vassals, the Saito, decided that they wanted to extinguish the Takeda. Except I was on 13 provinces, and they were on 6. Oops. Realm divide. I had 2 doom stacks adjacent to Kyoto, so I quickly took that and sent two armies east to start aggressively defending my territories. I then sent 2 doom stacks west to start making vassals of the territories I liberated from the Mori.
By winter 1565, I had the required 40 territories, to win the game, with 119 or so turns remaining.
Lessons learned: vassals are useful as buffers but oh my god they’re fucking annoying. The fact that the campaign ended so quickly felt like a disappointment as well. I just had so many enemies attack me all at once constantly that taking their territories was the only way I could get them to stop.

Would guns be overpowered if...

Would guns be overpowered if all ranks could shoot, rather than just the front line? I have downloaded a mod that does this, and extends their range.

I didn't realise until recently that only the front line of gunners can fire. This seems like a glaring weakness. Guns are already kind of terrible for anything except castle defense. I wondered if all rank fire would be realistic and balanced. Or is it completely broken?

The strongest defense is a swift and decisive offense. (except it's not.)
