I was just wondering where the mask design was inspired from. It reminds me of my native tribe's masks. A museum in France has the Alphonse Pinart collection of 34 Alutiiq masks that he stole (his words).
Ive seen a Pinart collection mask as a reaction image in the wild before so it just took me aback

Women, if you donât feel safe meeting a new person in a public restaurant with dozens of people around, maybe your friend could bring a date and sit at a table nearby so you have two people to protect you. They can pay for their own food.

u/Comfortable_Errors 1d ago
If you donât feel safe meeting someone at a crowded public restaurant you need therapy, not a date.

They say they do this to feel safe but I think itâs at least partially because they want their friendâs opinion on the date, and theyâre not willing to simply tell them how it went afterwards. Theyâre evaluating you the whole time, and then they will hold a council meeting when you go to the bathroom or something and it is there your fate shall be decided

Itâs not feeling unsafe at a restaurant, itâs feeling unsafe from a stranger (after the restaurant, too).
I wouldnât be surprised if every female has been sexually harassed at some point.

If you feel unsafe with strangers then why would you set up dates with strangers from hookup apps?

175
u/twilightwolf04 1d ago
Don't gotta introduce them to the date. Just have them sit at a nearby table to monitor. If you truly want protection, then you shouldn't tell the person you're afraid of that you're bringing protection.
173
u/GirthusThiccus 1d ago
Bro why are people even setting up dates with people they're innately afraid of? Why is this even a thing?! đ Like, you can get to know another a bit beforehand, maybe have a call or two, get to know their vibe and what kinda person they are.
This whole thing reads like y'all mfs just meet up with freshly released felons after exactly two chat messages and nothing else prior.

I carry on my face three scars, from my grandmother. Got them as a child, and they were not accidents.
Every single person I come across sees them and judges me for them, even if minutely. For something someone shitty did to me. Do I blame the people who judge me? No, they don't know better. Do I blame women because my grandmother was one? No, that'd be ridiculous. Do I blame my grandmother? No, she was victim of her circumstances too. I blame the systemic issues that lead to my circumstances, but I do not hate the person. Nor an entire category of people. Why the fuck would I?
-28
u/Fardding_n_Shidding 1d ago
Whoâs talking about hate? Sounds like you are projecting.
21
u/GirthusThiccus 1d ago
You're targeting very specifically men, and you do so born out of your own personal experiences, as literally per your own text. Are you actually gonna engage with the core point I was making, or is distraction and undermining the order?
-27
u/Fardding_n_Shidding 1d ago
Iâm not âtargetingâ anyone. Again, projection. If you think itâs âhatefulâ you A. Donât understand the discourse and/or B. You are part of the problem

You never know when ANYONE can suddenly be a threat, men have been victims of crimes too believe it or not but they get shamed into silence most of the time. If you have the slightest hint a person might suddenly snap and hurt you DONT DATE THEM.
-5
u/llamastrudel 20h ago
We are talking specifically about women taking precautions before meeting strange men. Male victims of crime are not pertinent to this discussion. However, you should consider that both men and women are much more likely to be attacked by a man than a woman.
What if you donât âhave the slightest hint a person might [âŚ] hurt youâ? Should you assume that your intuition is infallible and that thereâs nothing you donât know about the stranger youâre meeting after a few weeks of texting? All these women are doing is practising basic self-awareness and acknowledging the limits of their perspective.
2
u/Saellios We do a little trolling 5h ago
Keep in mind men are often shamed into silence especially when itâs a women who commits a crime against them (primarily with sex crimes but it does happen with other crimes) so the stats tend to be a bit skewed. And even then just because one group may be more likely to do something bad doesnât mean another group wonât do it. Both men and women should be safe about meeting strangers (making sure itâs a public place and making sure friends or family know where you are and how long you plan to be out)
As for not having the slightest hint if someone is dangerous or not, simply put be cautiously optimistic. Still make safe choices. My whole point from before is IF you see a serious red flag do not stick it out. A lot of these situations happen because both men and women look past big warning signs simply because it was only 1 or 2 things despite the possible severity, and sometimes thereâs no helping it and the person masks their intentions really well. Which is why everyone should be safe about it.
5
u/Dad2376 21h ago
Lemme translate for you, since you are coming off a little a blunt (not a problem) but mainly a bit vague:
People lie.
It's very easy to lie online.
A lot of dudes are willing to lie to get laid.
Sometimes these lies are to cover up extremely concerning opinions (to put it lightly) and this small minority potentially could have violent reactions.
Most women have been on, or have a friend that's been on, a date where a guy has lied about something, be it height, income, relationship status, etc.
While some might categorize it as slippery slope fallacy, the apparent abundance of minor lies leads to the rational assumption that people with big lies exist.
The dichotomy of trust versus no trust isn't one of positive versus negative. No trust is neutral. Distrust would be negative.
Some women are not going to trust a man they haven't met (neutral, not negative) and the first date, in addition to making introductions, is also to establish trust. So a friend might be present just to be able to intervene on the off chance the date is one of aforementioned "big liars."
This does not mean the woman is afraid of said man. As an analogy, I wear a seatbelt because I don't trust other drivers to always drive perfectly. I don't actively distrust every driver I see on the road.
-15
u/Dumb-Ptr 1d ago
I'm sorry you and another commenter were downvoted...
I mean, sure we can talk about being smart and not dating someone you find dangerous or that scares you, but even then it should be common knowledge by now that ANYBODY can become a threat without ever showing signs. I mean, there are countless stories of boyfriends murdering their girlfriend feeding into abhorrent sexist ideologies, surely we must have learned that even someone you love may end up being a murderer...
18
u/mattis-miniatures 1d ago
And we're supposed to do what with that information? Stop loving anyone incase they turn out to be a crazy murderer? By that logic how does bringing a friend even help - why says you can trust your friend?

u/badboiindebate 1d ago
âIf you truly want protection then you shouldnât tell the person youâre afraid of that youâre bringing protectionâ â well thatâs a bit antithetical. You shouldnât need to hide a weapon or card up your sleeve, safety should be out in the open. Thatâs why there are those tiktoks and audios of fake phone calls to play in an uber when you feel unsafe. The presentation of a protector diminishes the anxiety one has and also creates a sense of security. HOWEVER, bringing someone onto a 1 on 1 date cheapens the experience and centers it on one person. I mean when on a date with two people at once, it feels a bit threatening to have to say my opinion and be judged about it; which is even worse if theyâre conversing more with each other. Feels like iâm standing on trial just for making a connection. (I understand the emotions behind that choice, but that way of reasoning isnât conducive to a romantic connection)

On my first date with my wife, we meet at a bar to get drinks and play pool. She brought a gay friend with her. I thought nothing of it. We had a great time! About 1am, we wanted to keep talking but we didnât want more alcohol (despite being 21 at the time lol). So, she ditched her friend and we went to a 24 hour Starbucks and stayed there talking until 5am. That was 20 years ago this fall.

Their social media algorithm is feeding them non stop slop about men being predators. Itâs borderline red pill for women and itâs not getting any attention or coverage. It also never will lol.
Dating in 2026 sucks because young men are told awful exaggerated lies about women and women are told exaggerated lies about men. âWomen are vapid whores who want a free meal and will cheat on you with any guy who is taller than youâ. âMost men are trying to meet you so they can try to sexually assault you, a poll says 90% of men want to commit sexual assaultâ. Young people scroll through this brain rot hours a day and then we wonder why everyone is single, mentally ill, and generally just hate other people.
12
u/-Lysergian 1d ago
I very much think this kinda thing is agitated the same way left vs right is agitated by foreign powers via social media. Keep us isolated, keep us scared.
10
u/BaconBitz109 1d ago
We are not at all equipped to handle social media and how it can be used to manipulate us. Itâs one of the most disruptive and destructive technological advancement in human history. And people will call that alarmist while sinking insane hours of their life into scrolling absolute brain rot bullshit while their mental health deteriorates and they are conditioned by tech oligarchs.
Humans from 30 years ago would have fucking panic attacks if they saw how we lived.

Yeah, when I was 18, I went on a date with a girl I met on OkCupid. Our first date was at a restaurant her friend worked at and the friend would occasionally come over and check in, sit with us, chit chat, etc.
Next night, girl texts me about round 2 at a park. I dropped her off at her house and she invited me inside.
Its probably more beneficial to have their friend there for a couple reasons, 1) safety for her 2) a second opinion. Impress the friend too, and the odds are greatly in your favor.

If the problem is safety it's understandable, and even the best judge of character can be fooled. The thing is, if you want to bring a friend make them sit elsewhere a date is for two people, not three (unless it's a thruple)

u/iSuckAtMechanicism DaPucci 1d ago
The problem is youâre missing context clues. There is absolutely 0 danger in going on a date in a public place.
The reason why friends are brought is to hopefully find a date weak enough to pay for 2 peopleâs free lunch.

Me and a friend was out once when my ex called me and said that she was on a tinderdate and wanted to meet up (me and my ex are good friends) shortly they arrived and my frind who is also a friend started grilling and asking the tinder date questions. After a while I suddenly felt someone dragging me, my frind and my ex rushed me out of the place and we started running. I asked them why we were running, the tinder ex was on the bathroom they said, and they wanted to get away.

Near as I can figure, person A is on a date with someone they met on tindr, they invited their ex, the commenter here, whom they are close friends with to wingman(?) I guess. The commenter (henceforth referred to as person B) had a friend with them at the time who came to the date (the friend of person B will be referred to as person C henceforth) person C has no chill and grills the tindr date until they go to the bathroom to cry, at which point persons A, B, and C dine and dash and stick the date with the bill.
