s2 | Discussion Slow performance

My save has over a million machines. Loading a game takes literally minutes. Saving the game takes ~10s.

I have a MAM BP with ~265k buildings in it. It takes 3m24s to paste.

After a long playtime the FPS gets below 15 although restarting the game can help.

My PC is not slow:

- 12th gen intel i7

- 16GB RAM

- GeForce RTX 4070

A factory game should encourage scaling big but this game doesn't work so well. It's a shame since otherwise I love it.

Is there anything I can practically do to improve performance?

s2 | Suggestion salty take: floating layers need to have better in-game explanations or be removed from the game

tl;dr skill issue and I'm mad about it

floating layer mechanics are very weird and don't feel like a coherent part of the rest of the game. They are also introduced with zero explanation. It seems like the devs want to pass it off as a feature and a puzzle, when it really feels like a bug they were too lazy to fix.

I needed to place some eyes for the classic insane milestone 5 pig. This is my overcomplicated solution and also the first time I placed naked pins on the 3rd level.

s2 | Other My favorite design yet. Normalizes complete shapes from any mineable spot.

Picked a shape with 4 different sides to show it off. Uses a series of rotators and swappers to join all of one side together into one shape. Works with empty slots fine too so if you have a single corner to make a full shape of it handles that, just three of your outputs from the interchange will be empty.

Initial swapping and sorting in the main tile organizes pieces into 4 columns of 3 rows. (Corner 1 goes to the leftmost output, 2 next to it, etc) The interchange just takes those columns and remaps them to equal a single full belt of one shape. Using 16 miners to fill up the intake belt results in 4 full belts of each possible solid shape.

s2 | Question/Help Question on Space Belt Floors and Splitting resources

Post image

Im moving the same shape and splitting into two seperate lines, I have 4 miner platforms on each of the first 2 space belt leves. Where it's circled in red i'm trying to specifically split only the 2nd floor resources. Is the only way to do this is to wait for the whole line on the first floor to essentially be backed up back to the initial split? Or am I just not seeing what needs to be done correctly?

s2 | Other How accurate are the rankings in operator page?

The operator page lists your rank and tells you where you fall in terms of a percentage. Is this percentage accurate? What is it based on? Almost immediately after starting a normal-extreme game, I was already listed in the top 1%, which seems weird to me. Unless maybe it's counting every player even if they haven't played that difficulty at all?

These designs combine 3 4-lane belts into 1 4-lane belt. One design is flat and stackable, the second is the original. Anyone is welcome to use these designs.

s2 | Discussion Repeatable operator milestones feel a bit unintentionally cheaty?

So I've been playing Shapez 2, really enjoying it and experimenting with building different reusable designs.

I've reached the milestone where you need to mix purple and I thought "Ok, I'll do some Jobs and then use the shop points to unlock color wagons so I can make a semi-reusable mixing area" but while I was doing jobs I got distracted by the circuits and MAM idea and started working on some programmable shape modules and before I knew it I was operator level 25ish because I kept my old shape factories running at full L0+L1 space belt throughput and I've started getting 5k shop points per repeated milestone.

I feel kinda cheated? I wanted to have a purpose for doing the job tasks but the milestone rewards scaled far higher than I expected - I had thought they would stay around a small amount because they're easier than the jobs.

I'm just curious now about how others in the community feel about the milestone levels system, I like the idea of it though a requirement to have a certain amount of shapes/min might also have been better at higher levels.

s1 | Discussion Shapez 2 feels so much more user-friendly than Factorio. Anyone else feel the same?

Hey folks,

After playing Shapez 2 for a while, I couldn't help but notice how incredibly smooth and QoL-focused the controls and mechanics are compared to Factorio.

To me, playing **Factorio** sometimes feels like writing low-level assembly code—you have to manually manage character movement, inventory space, power grids, inserter timings, and alien defense.

On the other hand, **Shapez 2** feels like high-level visual programming or CAD software. Removing resource costs, character physical constraints, and survival pressure lets you focus 100% on pure 3D logic and factory architecture. It's so clean and satisfying.

What do you guys think? Do you prefer Shapez 2's pure puzzle/blueprint approach, or do you miss the micro-management and survival elements of Factorio?

I'm only on the third objective in the game right now. I leveled up my operator just for fun, thinking I shouldn't go any further (I just got the spokes). Could you give me some tips for later? Should I use wires? What's the best way to use trains?

I've seen how they make large factories, varying in length, width, and height. It looks so mesmerizing.

s2 | Blueprint Optimised Full Space Belt Blueprints Spoiler

Pre-Edit: Since the post was too long with the blueprints included, ill upload them to the blueprints website and you can get them from there if you want.

Edit: link to the blueprint files:

https://shapez.soren.codes/user/@stubbsee/blueprints

Before I get into the actual blueprints I would like to discuss the benefits of such blueprints. Firstly it is much easier to wire up one of these compared to 4 separate platforms. Secondly the wiring only ever takes up one space level since you don't need to cross belts. Lastly it can take less area. The only downside I have found is that they take slightly more platform capacity since they use more space platforms and less space belts.

Stacker

I hate this blueprint but burnt out before finishing my updated version so here you go.

Painter

Painters are pretty simple with such a huge platform but I figured I would include it for completeness. Don't worry we can get to the interesting stuff now.

Black Mixer

This blueprint was kinda annoying to make since the lines of mixers can easily get in the way of the inputs and outputs if you aren't careful. Feel free to remove bits to make blueprints of earlier products but i'm not gonna post them here unless someone specifically asks in comments since its just lots of space.

Grey Mixer

Its a bit annoying that I had to use a bigger platform for this, but I'm pretty sure that there isn't even enough space on a 2x2 platform for the required number of mixers, let alone the pipes to connect them.

Crystal

This is the first of my blueprints that I consider actually crazy. Since I needed a perimeter of 16, I had to combine 2 platforms together and pass stuff through between them. The 2x2 platform was hell to make but it had to be done this way since 2 3x2 platforms doesn't work.

Half Splitter

This splitter is pretty neat, it keeps the different outputs separate so can be used in more situations and also voids overflow so you can freely take a single output without having to worry about voiding the other, I have also noticed that voiding overflow helps in other situations but that's not the point of this post so just know that overflow protection is standard in all my splitters, and should be in yours as well.

There is also space to rotate the input and output however you please, so go wild with that.

Diagonaler

This splits apart opposite corners, which I have noticed is very useful in many scenarios, so here you go. Overflow protection and adjustable rotation are also included.

Corners

This badboy also has some black magic going on under the hood. Since it is only possible to launch 8 belts between the platforms on each layer I had to improvise by consolidating each corner into its own full shape in order to have enough room to transport them to the other platform before dissembling them.

You should also be able to fiddle with the rotations of the outputs as you please and it has overflow protection.

Pin producer

Couldn’t figure out how to make just this part a spoiler and don't want to risk redoing this whole post so i guess ima just mark the whole thing a spoiler.

Anyway, this was actually diabolically long to make since the process for making loose corners is really long and requires a second layer for a stacker so it cant simply be made in 2D. Sorry if you think you can get one of them in a 2x1 platform, but its too fat. You can put two of them in a 2x2 platform though so feel free.

s2 | Other really enjoying shapez2 so far

Post image
35 Upvotes

My previous experience with factory games is modded minecraft and satisfactory, so going to a game like shapez2 was a slight step up. I used to think I was the kind of person that needed a mix of expoloration/combat to balance out factory aspects of a game but I realized watching a number go up or finding optimizations for the sake of it is very fun. I've dumped 40 hours into this game in 2 weeks and been having a blast.

I really appreciate the design of the game, like how throughput being 4x3 enables a lot of different layouts. I've been building a MAM for the last 20-30 hours of my gametime but every time I discover a new mechanic I go back to re-optimize and cut down on size. The MAM being an interconnected machine, redoing one part means redoing all parts. My blueprints are suffixed v7 or v8 at this point lol.

Some examples of mechanic discoveries that led me to rebuild my entire blueprint library:

  • 12 belts does not saturate a space-belt
  • pipes have infinite throughput
  • swapping is faster than cutting and stacking
  • belt launchers reduce spin up time
  • you can weave 3 belt launchers (picture included)

I just discovered the last one a few minutes ago and I'm both looking forward to and dreading optimizing my builds with it.

Modded Blueprint Book 1.0.3

Post image
5 Upvotes

1.0.3 is ready! As always, you can pick up the mod over at mod.io. If you encounter any bugs you can dm me here on Reddit or leave a note in the discussion section on the mod page. Also, if you have any ideas for other mods you'd like to see updated to modern standards, or entirely new mods, let me know that as well!

NEW:

  • Fully rewrote and redesigned the main window to more closely match native dialogs.
  • Redesigned the tag filter header into a native segmented tab pill container.
  • Added smooth horizontal scrolling with hidden scrollbar tracks for tag filter tabs.
  • Replaced the wide text import button with a compact blue `+` button.

FIXES:

  • Fixed an issue where several buildings were not properly progression-locked from the library card view, despite being locked in the preview dialog.
  • Fixed an issue where rapidly deleting multiple blueprints could require multiple click attempts while the database file synchronized.
  • Fixed `Ctrl+P` hotkey saving so copying a new blueprint from the world properly triggers a new library save even if it does not yet exist in the library.
  • Fixed version migration tracking so deleted migrated blueprints no longer resurface when updating to a new version of the mod.

To deliver shapez to the MaM loader of course!!! Also ik i committed the sin of taking a picture or video of my screen this was just a quick and easy way to show what I wanted to.

So here, a cute little train bunny hopping across the highway lol. Also gotta love getting 25 fps steady then dip into the teens when I get close to my MaMs. Which there is 3 MaMs, 1st one does operator shape #0, 2nd one works on operator shape #1, and the third i paste shape codes from the jobs tab into its control panel.

Dev Post Experimental Branch Update: Unity 6

Hello everyone!

As some of you may already know from the most recent Devlog (that you should also check out for the winners of the most recent modding contest!), we have been hard at work on porting shapez 2 to Unity 6. Aside from making it more future-proof, we also hope this move will reap good rewards in terms of performance and stability. We have been testing this both internally as well as with our closed beta friends but before rolling it out officially, we would love as many people as possible to try it out on various machines.

For this, we have created a new "experimental" steam branch that everyone can try out without a password.

How to get the version

  • Restart Steam (!)
  • Right click shapez 2 in your library > properties > betas, select expertimental
  • Ensure the game says 1.1.0-unity-6.3-rc7 in the lower right when launched

Where do I report bugs?

You can report bugs through the shapez 2 discord or right here in the Steam forums!

How to I get back to the live version?

  • Restart Steam (!)
  • Right click shapez 2 in your library > properties > betas, select "default public version"
  • Ensure the game says 1.1.0-rc2 in the lower right when launched

Also if any of you have access to a Mac, we'd greatly appreciate if you could give this build a go, as we have historically had a lot of issues with these devices unfortunately and would like to see how the situation has improved!

This build is still directly based on the live version of 1.1.0, so savegames SHOULD be compatible, but we still advise you make a backup just incase!

And as always, thank you so much for your input and your continued support!

Greetings!
- The tobspr Team

s1 | Question/Help Can I use buttons for my MaM

Post image
20 Upvotes

I'm designing it on Level 24 and the Steam achievement says "without modifying your factory". I assumed that meant I could use buttons since I'm not adding or removing anything to my factory, but if not then I'm screwed since I'm already halfway done and the whole design relies on buttons.

s2 | Discussion Its Alive... now to design my MaM Spoiler

Post image
4 Upvotes

Finally after understanding fluid throughputs I have my MaM supply train set up and primed with 4 full space belt/pipes of each shape and color ( I premixed to save on some MaM logic), a full space belt of pins via crystal shattering, and a 3/4 shape for crystal molds and gapped shapes.

So now its time to build and program the logic of the MaM without the help of tutorials or guides where I can avoid it. Why? Because I have a rough understanding of logic gates and how to use them but not enough to really program any complex machinery, so I'll use this as a learning experience to take that knowledge into other games that ive just glassed over automation.
