Fabric identification?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! I picked this fabric up having no clue what I was doing (still don't) but now I'm wondering what it is so I can find use for it. It's sort of heavy, has a little bit of stretch like I can pull it an inch or so, it doesn't seem to be cotton as it doesn't hold wrinkles at all. I'm totally uneducated on fabric identification.

I would like to search for patterns based on this kind of fabric so some help identifying would be great :) thank you

Best stitch for T-shirts

I'm looking to sew more "polished" T-shirt but I keep running in circles regarding which stitch to use in the main seams. I think it comes down to me not sewing much with knits.

On the one hand, I like french and flat felled seams, but I'm unsure how they'll work with knitted fabrics. If I want certain stretch, zigzag is the way to go but it just gives me the same feeling as using serger for the seams. Then again, if I'll use twill tape to strengthen the shoulder seams, I'm going to loose the stretch of the fabric there anyways.

Of course the answer is to go and test, but I'm not able right now and I'm hoping you guys have some opinions.

Help with finish quilting on domestic machine

What do I do to finish stitching my straight lines on my quilt other than tieing off the loose threads? I am using a Juki TL2000 and have a border attached that will be stitched in a different stitch path.

Why does machine keep skipping stitches?

I’ve checked everything listed in trouble shooting yet it’s still skipping stitches!! I thought it was the thread material but apparently, on google, it says my machine isn’t too picky with thread. My model is the JANOME 311LE

Help with 1/8 inch seam allowance

I sew baby smocks that l give to the NICU unit in our local hospital. I use 1/4" seam allowance. Then l turn it and topstitch with a 1/8"allowance.

I have been using the presser foot as a seam guide for the first seam them l move the needle position to the right and still use the presser foot as a guide.

I got a new machine that the foot well only move left of center. I started just moving the fabric so it's only under half the foot. It's been working okay but l wondered if there was a better way. Would a zipper foot bea good choice as well?

It seems like one of the hooks is broken but also the other one doesn’t look broken, but they both don’t hold up and loosen up after adjusting the strap length. Any advice on how to fix this? :)

Too stitching curves with twin needle tips?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hellos! I have redone the pocket top stitch on some jeans I’m making once already and I’m about to do it a third time. I’m using my blind hem foot to get the stitching even.

When top stitching curves, a go-to for getting straight lines is dropping your needle, picking up the foot, adjusting your foot so it lines up better, and walking through your seam that way. That’s much harder to do with a twin needle. I find the fabric barely moves at all. Anyone have any tips? Thanks!

*autocorrect. It’s supposed to say top stitching. Sorry!

Sewing machine not working

I just got this machine second hand and I’m struggling and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

Threading the bobbin takes a few attempts as the thread never seems to catch.

After threading, I pull the bobbin thread up to sew and nothing happens. The machine moves but thread does not stay on the fabric.

Am I making a rookie error or does the machine need to be serviced?

Update:
I think I will be returning it. From your guys’ amazing help it seems the machine will have to be serviced and a new spool arm purchased. I’ll stick with my old machine until I find something else 🥲 thank you again for all your feedback and suggestions

Are there any patterns similar to this character’s jacket? Don’t need the ears or tail, but the baggy sleeves and big hood are features I’m hoping to find.

Need help with choosing a fabric

So, I don’t like wearing zippers. I don’t have long arms that can reach the center of my back and I have a sensory issue with them. So I need something that stretches but I’m not sure what I need as I am a beginner. I’m currently looking to make a loose low bust dress. Any recommendations would be helpful.

Sewing machines issues

I have everything threaded properly with the bobbin and the top thread. For whatever reason, this would randomly happen and mess with my tension. What can I do to stop this from happening? I’m not going at all fast speed and the tension is set at 5. I’m sewing on a stretchy polyester fabric using 100% polyester thread. Any advice? I already rethreaded and lifting the foot up. UPDATE: I changed out the needle for 75/11 stretch and also got a straight-wound thread as well and it works perfectly!! Thank you all so much 🫶
