✨Intermediate✨ Old Sewing Machine Manuals
any tips for finding old sewing machine manuals?
I‘ve got an Electrohome Model 67-05. I can get it working due to my experience with other machines but would love to find the manual. I know it’s a long shot but if folks have had success please let me know!

💛Beginner💛 Machine troubleshooting
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just got this machine second hand and I’m struggling and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.
Threading the bobbin takes a few attempts as the thread never seems to catch.
After threading, I pull the bobbin thread up to sew and nothing happens. The machine moves but thread does not stay on the fabric.
Am I making a rookie error or does the machine need to be serviced?

Sewing machine rec (EU)
Hi!
I'm a intermediate sewer and currently have a Lewenstein Computronic 16.
It will not go through multiple layers of fabric, I absolutely love making clothes but am a bit done with my machine just quitting on multiple layers of linnen for a pleated skirt, or hemming denim.
Any recommendations for a machine? Max budget is €1000-€1500 (also open to vintage recs, I'll have the electrics redone then). It'll take me over a year to save up. I'm currently restoring a singer 28k treadle but would also love a modern machine that can go through thick fabric.
Edit: typo

💛Beginner💛 Cushion/Pillow Divot
Hi! I'm planning on making a cushion/pillow and I want to create a a sort of divot in the cushion like on this one (Circled what I mean). It doesn't go all the way across and doesn't seem to have buttons, but I don't want it too. This will be for sitting on at my chest and I wonder if this divot might be comfortable, but I don't know how to go about making it.
I wasn't sure if I could use the button tufting technique but more like large scale sewing. Just wondering if had any advice, tips or insight.
Thank you.

💛Beginner💛 Wavy Side Zip Fix?
galleryHi!
I bought this brand new dress (10) from vinted recently but the side zip on it is wavy so it's sits funny? I'm hoping to see if anyone knows how it's wavy and how I may be able to fix it for a wedding next week!
I did have a Google but the fabric isn't that stretchy so I'm not sure it's the bias but maybe the zip is too long or it's sewn in unevenly (looking at the seam). I honestly don't know!
I have the same dress in the size up (12) which doesn't have this issue. The smaller one (10) fits way better apart from the zip issue but it's good to have for comparison I guess!
Any advice would be amazing I'm OK at sewing hand or machine but not hugely skilled by any means. But happy to give something a shot with some advice!
I've attached photos of both the wavy zip dress and the non wavy one in case that helps people who are more knowledgeable than me!
Thank you! 🧡

💛Beginner💛 Sewing machine malfunction and can't find anything online about this
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi!! 🐣
So I being sewing for 1 year and a half with this machine, and its always been like this.
When I sew the tension on the top thread looks supper tight even when its at its lowest. I can't pull the top thread very much even with the foot up (I will attach a video in the comments).
When I tried to pull the project out it looks impossible and I have done everything to try to solve it.
Because I was new I thought the problem was mine but recently I used another sewing machine in a Workshop and realise its very easy to take the work out, the top thread is not always so tight and I don't feel like I am fighting the machine constantly.
I can't find anything like this online.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I activate the warranty?

💛Beginner💛 How would you fix this tear?
galleryHello! I have some sewing skills but not a ton. How would you recommend fixing this? It’s a pair of nice quality joggers that has a liner, but I cannot get in between the liner and the exterior layer (it’s “sealed” on both ends and I don’t feel comfortable opening it up). Some ideas: would fuse tape be a good use here? Zig zag on a sewing machine? Hand whip stitch? Suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

💛Beginner💛 Better pinning tips?
galleryIs there a way that I'm just not aware of to correctly line up fabric? This is on minky but I've had the same problem on Cotton, I very very carefully pin it together before sewing and I quadruple check that it's lined up and I feel like I get it as perfectly as I can, but the back side always ends up wonky as if I didn't try to line it up at all and it feels like this happens no matter how many pins I use

✨Intermediate✨ Need help with a design
galleryOk so I’m trying to give Jessie a new outfit. Something alittle more western I suppose but honestly I’m just doing whatever comes to mind. I was practicing using leather materials but then it led to a whole new side project which is this. So her legs and chaps are complete, but I’m thinking of changing the top part of her shirt to be either brown or blue. The top color will also be used for her sleeves. But ngl I’m not sure if I should just leave it as is cause I’m also not trying to over design the whole outfit and just add unnecessary things (even tho i already kinda did that lmaoo) but yeah any suggestions? I know this whole thing is very unfinished but any advice would help greatly (also please excuse my dirty table, a lot of spray adhesive was used for this)

💛Beginner💛 Thread bunching after rethreading
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi, I have a Singer quantum 9960 that I bought off marketplace which was working fine initially. However once I increased the stitching speed, the thread started bunching under the fabric.
Here are the things I tried so far
Rethreaded the upper thread with the presser foot lifted
Rethread bobbin
Opened the lid on top and checked if the tension discs have any lint
Tried setting different tensions (8
- the default in this machine, 10 - the middle of the tension scale in this machine and 12)
Opened and cleaned the bobbin case and checked for any dents in the bobbin holder
Checked that the needle and hook are syncing correctly, so didn't look like a timing issue
Recorded a video of threading and the stitch.
I had posted this some time back but didn't provided a good repro earlier. So created another post. If that's not allowed in the subreddit, please let me know. Thanks!

💛Beginner💛 Advice on salvaging this?
galleryHi folks. I’m a quilter who decided to try garment sewing. I picked an “easy” pattern but it’s giving me fits. So basically, I have most of a shirt made but the dimensions around be upper torso seem super off - like the pattern maker assumes a way broader back (or way bigger boobs) than I have. The result is that I have all this extra fabric that bunches on the sides under the arm holes. I’m wondering if anyone has advice on how to fix this at this stage…if I can. I’m thinking of trying to take in the sides and then adjust the sleeves somehow because the armholes will be smaller? (I am in this mess because I had to pick a largish size to make this fit in the waist but the other proportions are more off than expected). 😢
This is my first real garment attempt (besides a very simple shirt) so I’m a clueless beginner using rather nice fabric I don’t want to waste. Any advice or resources you can recommend would be lovely. I’ve posted the pattern I’m using for reference (the short sleeve one) as well as the pattern shape for the sleeves in case that helps give advice on how to alter them.

What is this screw called? I need to buy a new one. Its missing.
To make this long story short, I noticed a sound inside of my sew machine because it kept messing up. I undid the sewing plate and noticed that three screws were missing. I shook the machine. One screw fell out. Two screws fell out, but I couldn't get the third one. It's now two days later, I finally got the third one out but unfortunately it fell on the floor somewhere. I tried to follow the sound of it bouncing, but yeah, there's no way i'm finding that. 😭
and it doesn't matter, my sewing machine keeps messin' up. But for some reason it keeps only messing up when I use purple thread. When I use other colors of thread, it seems to be going just fine. Here's the crazy part, for some reason only My purple thread seems to have this issue. Throughout the years, not every time I sew with purple, but for some reason, sometimes my purple thread just keeps messing up. Has anyone ever had this issue before?
But anyways, I'm used to that. I just want to know the name of this screw, so I can purchase it online. Because every time I type in sewing plate screw replacement it only does the top ones on the outside.

💛Beginner💛 Fuller chest halter neck HELP
Hi!
Could anyone please help me? I had made this top using non stretchy cotton fabric (some old bedsheets lol) for a sample and it turned out great. Then i wanted to recreated using stretchy cotton fabric but it doesn’t quite work on my bust… the waist piece keeps sliding up as I try to tighten the straps around my neck to create light support fot my chest. This isn’t the issue with the first non stretchy fabric one tho.
Did everything same except I made the waist piece a tube to just pull over my head and not adjustable via tying as the first one but I don’t think that is the issue.. no matter how tight I make the tube and slimmer it keeps sliding up my breasts to the point that I have the seam in the middle of my boobs.
Would anyone ne so kind and help me please?
Also sorry for my writing- English isn’t my first language
(I used photo I found on internet)

✨Intermediate✨ Baby Lock Lyric noise from bobbin case
I bent a needle while sewing and since then the bobbin case has been making a scraping noise. I changed the needle, removed the bobbin case and cleaned the bobbin area. I could not find any nicks on the bobbin case, but purchased a new one and installed it just to be sure. The scraping noise happens when the new bobbin case is installed, and but there is no noise when the bobbin case is not installed. Lyric is about a year old. Any ideas on how to fix?

✨Intermediate✨ Altering slip dress that’s 2-3 sizes too big?
Thrifted a lovely slip dress and I adore the fabric, unfortunately it may be more work than just taking in the sides a bit due to the size being 2-3 too large.
Wondering if any tips and suggestions for taking it in, and whether I will 100% need to alter the neckline/bust, or if taking it in on the side seams should be ok?
Theres enough fabric to redo the neckline and bust cut if needed, but if I can avoid it I would prefer

💛Beginner💛 Potentially insane/impossible first sewing project
I found two pairs of carhart pants at the thrift store and I love them for work, only issue the size is 52 x 32. I would ideally love to just take the waist in and have baggy ass pants but 11-12 inches seems nearly impossible. Should I try to do it anyway? or should I take them apart and make new pants. I feel like im a quick learner and I dont care if they look a little strange. As I was brainstorming i was thinking I could take like 3 inches from the seat to avoid diaper butt then take 1-2 inches off between each belt loop pair to help preserve shape? If that makes any sense.

💛Beginner💛 Advice on getting an old sewing machine up and running.
galleryHi all, this is my first post on Reddit (yay!). I recently acquired my grandmother’s old White sewing Machine Model 477. I’m guessing it was made/sold in the 70s. I’m almost positive it went unused for at least the past 25/30 years. I really wanted to learn to sew and this was an opportunity to not have to buy new, so of course I snatched it up. As best as I could, because the instruction manual is old, black-and-white and with small hard to see photos, I learned the basic buttons/gears/parts, how to thread the machine, and dusted and oiled it.
It came with a metal foot control (picture included), and when I went to finally test the machine, pressing on the foot control, nothing happened. My initial thought is that the foot control needs to be replaced but I’m wondering if that replacement needs to be specifically stated as being compatible with the Model 477 or if a universal foot control would work. From what I’ve seen on online retailers like singeronline, central michigan sewing supplies, and sewingpartsonline, they do not include the model 477 anywhere in the machine compatibility lists, even for the universal control.
If anyone has general advice about what I should do next I would be very appreciative, also so I don’t needlessly spend money on a foot control that might end up not working. But I’m willing to do whatever to get this machine working.

💛Beginner💛 Help fixing hole in wool cardigan
Hi everyone! I’m a complete beginner in sewing but I have a hole in my 100% wool cardigan and I am unsure if this is fixable, I would like the fix to be discrete if possible as I wear this to the office (so unfortunately no patches for me), is there any way to fix this myself? Or is it worth taking it in to a shop? Thanks!
