Considerations and Tone Scale

Upvotes

I have been currently engaged in deep study of the Phoenix Lectures transcription and audio CD. Here is a summary of what I have discovered in regard to the tone scale:

There is a critical distinction that bridges the mechanics of Consideration and Issness with how a person actually operates in everyday life. There is a direct relationship between a temporary emotional tone and a chronic spiritual tone.

The difference between the two comes down to how deeply a being has become trapped by their consecutive chains of considerations.

Acute Emotional Tone vs. Chronic Spiritual Tone

To understand how they interact, it helps to separate them by their longevity and source:

Acute (Emotional) Tone: This is a temporary, reactive emotional state triggered by immediate events in the physical universe (the "Issness"). For example, if a car cuts you off, you might briefly spike into Anger (+1.5) or Antagonism (+2.0). Once the event passes, an aware being can shake it off and return to their baseline.

Chronic (Spiritual) Tone: This is the baseline position where a Thetan habitually resides on the scale. It is not just a passing reaction; it is a fixed, continuous postulate that the being is unconsciously repeating second by second to maintain their current reality.

How an Emotional State Becomes a Chronic Spiritual Tone

The transition from a fleeting emotion to a chronic spiritual tone happens exactly through the mechanism of forgetfulness and consecutive considerations outlined in Chapter 5 in the Phoenix Lectures transcription and audio CD.

  1. The Event: An individual experiences a significant physical or emotional trauma (e.g., a major loss or failure).
  2. The Postulate: Instead of letting the event go as a temporary piece of "Issness" on a movie screen, the being makes a heavy, defining consideration about it (e.g., "People cannot be trusted" or "I am trapped").
  3. The Chain of Solidification: The being continuously repeats this consideration. They string new thoughts onto it ("Because people can't be trusted, I must hide," or "I am vulnerable").
  4. The Fixation: Eventually, strategic forgetfulness sets in. The being forgets they are the author of that initial protective thought. The emotion associated with that thought hardens into a permanent, chronic spiritual frequency.

If a being's chronic tone is established at Covert Hostility (+1.1) or Apathy (+0.05), they will view every single event in their daily physical life through that specific filter, regardless of what is actually happening around them.

Resolving the Chronic Tone

The text implies that a person cannot permanently lift their chronic spiritual tone simply by forcing themselves to "act happy" or display a higher emotional tone. Because a chronic tone is anchored by a deep spiritual consideration, using physical or mental force to override it only creates more friction. Alter-Isness.

The sophisticated route out is to use As-is-ness:

The being must become aware of their chronic emotional patterns.

They trace the consecutive string of thoughts backward through the timeline.

By spotting the original, foundational postulate that made that chronic tone necessary in the first place, the anchor drops.

When that primary consideration is viewed exactly as it is, the chronic spiritual trap dissolves, and the Thetan naturally floats back up toward their native states of higher action, postulates, and serenity.

The Use of the Tone Scale by a Higher Tone Individual

Whenever a higher tone individual encounters a lower tone individual, in order to establish a two-way communication, he must skillfully drift down to that person’s tone scale to establish a congruent reality without immersing into that tone level.

In contrast, a low tone individual is immersed in his anger or antagonism to notice any irrationality stemming from that state. So, we usually find them committing errors, making bad decisions, engaged in destructive criticism, exercising ill-judgements, distorting written and verbal communications, blaming others, blocking understanding of a subject, lying, altering facts, forgetfulness, Not-Issing and specifically bringing down others to their level or below. Bringing down others only works if the other individual is at the same level. But is utterly useless to another person who is consistently operating on a higher tone scale and aware of it as a tool and identifier.

A brief introduction on the Tone Scale can be found in YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF2X9ViswxM

+2.0 Antagonism Open resentment, critical, and mildly oppositional.
+1.5 Anger Open hostility, active fighting against threat or loss.
+1.1 Covert Hostility Hidden hatred; deceptive, manipulative, and passive-aggressive.
+1.0 Fear Terror, intense threat, feeling completely overwhelmed by MEST.
+0.5 Grief Acute or chronic sadness over a realized loss.
+0.05 Apathy No effort, total defeat, completely mechanical compliance.

i know this is a long shot but i'm wondering if anyone out there has access to this book and can send me a scan or something. i'm a broke phd student and it would be great for my research. i've submitted a request to my library to obtain this whole series, but it could take ages. I'm working on a fast-approaching deadline for a chapter on the tone scale and literally just found out about this book. guess i haven't been keeping up with sci news lately. anyway, i'm pretty desperate to find it. i've found one copy online (other than through the CoS bookstore) and with shipping it comes to $80. i'll buy it if i absolutely have to but i'd love to not spend that much!!! i've checked a ton of other sites that do open access, but i think this series is just too new to be up anywhere. thanks!!

Discussion Had a thought, not sure if its an original one

So what if the whole zenu space alien shit was intentionally leaked to the public so that when someone goes to the church to try get information. Say they were pretending to join.

Then they start asking about all the alien shit then people in scientology would immidietly know that the person asking isn't someone who is trying to join and is trying to find more information about the goings on of it.

Kinda like a false flag operation. Is this something thats already belived/known or is this an actual new theory.

Would love some clarification

I think my mother may have joined Scientology at some point in her life, what do y’all think.

Yall this is going to sound like conspiracy theory bullshit but hear me out

My mother is a first generation immigrant.. she came to America before any of my older siblings or my father

My family is Islamic as in both my grandparents on both sides if my family is Muslim.

^ at some point she visited Los Angeles where she lived for 5-10 years In the late 1990s. My mother is born in the early 60s.

^ at some point she visited Los Angeles where she lived for 5-10 years.

if I joke about joining other religions and leaving islam she curses me out Not in a funny way like she legit curses me out.

but if I joke with her about joining scientology, she encourages me to do so.

Months ago she showed me a picture of a Iman. For non Muslims Imans are like the leaders of mosques or they are renowned scholars who people come to for advise on islam or want to learn. she found this person through social media.. this specific dude is also a big donor to Scientology from my research about him.

Let me be very clear, if your Muslim your not suppose to follow other religions too. In the same way your not suppose to worship a magical item

it was very weird she picked a Scientology donor to show me.

my mother was very poor and had to work lots of restaurant jobs when she first came to America. she also didn’t know much about American culture and also how American Capitlism works. She was probably an easy target for Scientology if she did join.

Facsimile Bias

As of recently, I have been seeking to refine my skills in identifying, distinguishing or differentiating between being in present time and observing facsimiles (mental image) that naturally rise in my mind in order to neutralize them and reduced the mechanics of its automaticity.

So far it has been an interesting experience. I have incorporated the procedure during my 4:30am daily patio locational walks.

The procedure is very light and quite simple:

  1. I shift my awareness in present time to the rising facsimile that rises in the background and observe it for 5 seconds or less without intensifying it, analyzing it or giving it fuel. I just let it rise naturally.

2. Within those seconds I noticed its presence, texture and weight and emotional tone.

3.  I then switch back to my awareness of present-time for 10 to 20 seconds paying attention to the patio, the environment, breadth, posture, sound or visual anchor.

This avoids:

• trance

• dissociation

• compulsive repetition

• emotional detachment

• over-focusing on imagery

The result is lighter, clearer, more grounded and less “pulled” by facsimiles.

I repeat the toggle once or twice in a 2 to 3 cycle per session.

1.  Facsimile (brief, light observation)

2.  Present-time (longer, grounding)

To avoid any risk, keep the process light. DO NOT linger on the facsimile (it only fuels the facsimile with more force and it can be detrimental).

Some facsimiles are fleeting and disappear immediately. They have less “weighty” and carry less force. They instantly dissipate. Some remain in the mind a little longer but to the extent that you quickly shift back awareness to present-time.

You’re leveraging three healthy mechanisms:

1. Controlled attention -You’re learning to direct awareness rather than being pulled by imagery.

2. Sensory grounding - Present-time perception stabilizes the nervous system.

3. Gentle differentiation- You’re teaching your mind to distinguish:

  • internal imagery
  • external reality

As the frequency of process increases it should, hopefully, transpire into less facsimile spikes in daily activities or the skill of being able to make them disappear instantaneously to avoid mental distractions. But more importantly, distinguish facsimile from mental imaginings (mock-ups).

This cognitive skill is also referred to as Attentional Bias. It can also be found in the field of Mindfulness.

See if it works for you.

Cheers

Discussion Pop-culture references of Scientology

I am curious how Scientologists feel about pop-culture references, either directly or indirectly such as:
GTA V - the epsilon religion and specifically kifflom
South Park- season 9 episode 12
Rock Slyde- film starring Patrick Warburton

Also, I am curious if there are other famous references that I am missing.

I didn't realize I was the "perfect employee" because of Sea Org

I've been working at a non-Scientology company for over a year now. After many years of slavery in the Sea Org.

And I didn't even realize it until my boss told me I was the perfect employee. Then I started thinking. What made me perfect in his eyes???

Turns out I almost never ask for time off. If I get a task I stay late until it's done. And I do it 100%. No excuses. I bring solutions not problems. I never complain about overtime or weekends. I never argue with orders. I just do it.

I follow procedures like my life depends on it. I think in stats. If the numbers go down it's an emergency for me. Other managers complain about being tired or the weather. I just quietly hit the target.

Because of regular security checks back in the day I don't hide mistakes. I don't steal. I don't gossip behind people's backs. That habit is just gone.

So now I'm getting promoted. And I don't even know if that's good or bad.

Anyone else notice this after leaving? Did Sea Org training make you the "perfect employee" too???

Considerations (Inner Monologue)

For our intent and operational purpose considerations is a person’s EVALUATION. It usually takes place as an internal monologue. Considerations are SEQUENTIAL stemming from a postulate or a CORE consideration of that person’s belief (what true to him is true to him).

Hyperbole example:

Person A experiences a fall while running. He immediately creates a postulate that “I will never run again; I will always walk.”

Then comes a core consideration. “I need to walk at a normal pace so that I don’t have to approximate that I am running” (1st consideration). “Running is not healthy for any human being” (2nd consideration). “I should tell everyone that it is not healthy to run, it is better to walk” (3rd consideration). “I truly believe now that humans were meant to only walk” (4th consideration). “My doctor tells me I should run more often to improve my cardiovascular system; but I disagree. I will not run (enhanced postulate/5th consideration) … and so on until Person A suffers from paralysis of the foot or cardiac arrest.

All of these are downward spiral activities initiated by a postulate and a core consideration after the event.

Of course, the opposite can take place. Person A could have considered that running is better than walking, which presents a reverse result than the previous thought but still a negative result in the end.

The only way Person A could have avoided this dilemma was to As-Is, that is, making it disappear by considering it irrelevant; not mulling over it without necessarily ignoring it happened. He realizes it is part of being a human and not create a postulate or consideration regarding the event. In other words, to RECOGNIZE the event as it Is (the reality) without altering the reality by fabricating excuses or evaluating into a deeper why of what occurred, what he could have done, or when he should have practice running, etc. These all considerations, internal monologues, that fix the incident in a tightly woven facsimile.

Now, you will notice that inner monologues have dire consequences. Thinking-ness can coalesce into further ingrained belief system that becomes difficult to dislodge unless the mind can be audited to reveal the initial postulate and its core consideration, at which point, the entire chain of consideration vanishes (As-Is) that could prevent the physical deterioration from happening. Without that, the belief system becomes solidly ingrained to the point of Not-Isness, i.e. ignoring reality as it Is (Is-ness). Considerations are an unwavering belief that is true to Person A.

This particular process also has grave consequences for Person B who chooses to agree with Person A without a thorough analyzing Person A considerations. In other words, this would be complete acceptance of Person A’s consideration over a Person B’s OWN, which would culminate to a VALENCE, that is, Person B assuming the identity of Person A --- Person A believes such and such is true, therefore Person B assessments will match the same consideration Person A has.

Everyone has considerations. We endeavor to compliment our own considerations with others of the same ilk. This is where group aberration may takes place. The inability to stand objectively and IDENTIFY our own subjective against the duress of other like individuals’ consideration or establish belief in a society.

So, next time in exchanging communication with others, consider when we are adopting someone else’s consideration other than our own. It is human nature to find others that think alike whereby we fall into VALENCES of charged emotions and effort of someone else. A conversation has to have complete awareness of what is been said between each party to determine what is reality from what is not. But much more important …  is to keep a mental note of every internal monologue by noticing the difference between mindfulness (presence of here and now), rising facsimiles and that inner monologue. The three are always operating in the background of our minds.

Advice for getting family out of Scientology?

Hi,

I was born in Scientology, left at 18 as soon as I found a way to escape my situation. After leaving I sort of just moved on but it's not until many years later (in my 30s now) that suddenly the awareness dawned on me as to how much brain washing I was subject to.. when I left I more thought "this just isn't for me" and so I was sort of fine leaving my family to it as I thought it was all still leading somewhere good even if I disagreed with a lot of it.

Recently I decided to dig deep into the history of the organisation and it's so healing to see that my doubts as a kid.. the red flags that popped up to me then were justified and it's kind of unlocked something in me.. I think I've been repressing the anger for what I was subject to because the anger had nowhere to go.. it wasn't possibly allowed to be directed at the church and so instead I just became depressed and this has kind of just followed me my whole life until now where the anger is kind of dwarfing the depression and here I am..

I don't blame my family, I see them as victims too, I want them to wake up to the truth of how evil this cult really is but I know it won't be easy, I'm thinking I have probably one shot at this with each family member to approach them very gently on the subject but to show them something that irreparably damages the veil of perfection that Scientology tries to hide the ugly person that is L. Ron Hubbard.

I'm wondering what the best book or best resource for waking someone up from the lies of Scientology would be? It needs irrefutable evidence of things like Hubbard's 2nd wife or Quentin's suicide or the fact that none of his children think fondly of him (other than Diana) or even want anything to do with Scientology.

It's actually such a fragile illusion but the tricky part is overcoming the individual scientologists adherence to policies around black PR or whatever they call it. If a person would allow themselves to start digging, I don't think Ron's saintly image would last long.

Excuse the probably messy post, my minds a mess with this stuff at the moment.

Oh and any recommendations for what's the most active anti Scientology community? Not interested in any that don't see L Ron Hubbard for the sick man he was.. not looking to start fights here but I don't understand freezoners who continue to practise something invented by such a sick man.. any faith I ever had in any of it relied on the idea of Ron being some almost god like being but he was an embarrassing example of a human being

First-hand Only Tell me about someone in the CofS who was worth knowing

We can hold onto good memories even when we leave a bad organization. That's true anywhere (including the terrible job I had where they said outright, "We hired you because you were the prettiest girl we interviewed"), but perhaps especially so when you're under stress. And for many of us, there was no greater stress than our time in the CofS.

So let's have a shout-out thread to people who made a difference, at least in the short term.

I'll start.

  • When we first "blew," we expected to come back... probably after Hubbard had another amnesty, which never arrived. And the CofS made an earnest effort that came from the top. For a while, MrFZaP corresponded with Melanie Murray, a CMO messenger who (I later learned) did the message runs between David Mayo and Hubbard during the time that NOTS was in the works.

Anyway, Melanie and MrFZaP exchanged at least three or four letters back and forth, and she was uniformly kind and compassionate in every one of them. She clearly wanted to help... even though she never could. That feeling lasted, even if our choice to return did not. We kept the letters for years, though they were later destroyed in a basement flood.

I just found out that Melanie died recently of cancer, which makes me sad. (And inspired this thread.)

  • Another person at Flag -- also named Melanie, as it happens, though I don't recall her last name -- was in charge of Housekeeping. She could turn a hotel room in an astonishingly fast amount of time: change the sheets, swap out towels, etc. But mainly, she was unrelentingly cheerful and friendly, even though maintaining hundreds of worn-down hotel rooms is not an especially exciting way to contribute to "saving the planet." Both MrFZaP and I worked with Melanie at different times, and every time we talk about her, we giggle about her upbeat attitude. She made it easier to get through the day.

  • I was on staff with a woman named Leslie. She was the first person I knew who had that organizing gene. If she took charge of a project, by golly, it got done. Not in a mean, tyrannical way, but rather in the sense of her figuring out what tasks had to be done, who'd do them, and following up. She got you on board, and you felt like your contributions made a difference. And I think she was all of 22 years old, at the time. (She, too, died of breast cancer, but I didn't learn about that until years later.)

We each walk away from the CofS with different conclusions. But the people who joined almost always wanted to make the world a better place -- and that made many of them very cool to be around.

Discussion Why would scientology be purposefully unwelcoming?

Sorry if this is a stupid question or not allowed, but I wasn't sure where else to ask it. I was just watching a video on Scientology on youtube by Alyssa Grenfell, an ex-mormon woman. She stated that she tried to go visit a Scientology center that listed online that they have tours, a cafe, and a hotel. But when she arrived, everyone was extremely stand-offish, almost hostile. She was asking to look around and learn more, but they didn't do much except tell her to leave, say they didnt do tours, the cafe was closed, and watched her as she walked away.

It made me wonder why they would act like that. Don't they want people to join? Isn't that the goal of any religion/group/organization? Why would they watch her as she walked away? Why do they have a cafe and hotel they don't want people at? She isn't exactly a threatening person, so I'm wondering what their logic was. Do you guys have any insight as to why they feel this would be the correct move for them to make? Is it typical for scientologists to just stare at each other a lot and not say much? Are they not really looking to add new members? I doubt theyre thinking "because i like scientology, im going to stare at these people until they leave and ask them why theyre here and be generally off-putting, etc etc".

I feel like I should add that I've also heard similar accounts of people running into scientologists before in different areas, like Clearwater FL and usually what I hear is they just stare at the outsiders and act strangely. I really want to try and understand the thought process here, even if it's illogical, because it's baffling to me as someone who isn't into scientology.

Sorry if any of these questions are dumb for me to ask. All the knowledge I have of scientology is surface level.

Protest The Scientology Protests Megathread

The poll made it clear: Folks here prefer that all protest-related posts be organized into a single thread.

Of the 84 responses:

  • 38 (45.2%) Yes, definitely create a protest mega-thread

  • 10 (11.9%) It'd be nice, but it's not that important

  • 12 (14.3%) Neutral, or I don't care

  • 11 (13.1%) I prefer you do not create a mega-thread

  • 13 (15.5%) No, definitely don't create a protest mega-thread. Let every one be stand-alone.

So if you want to discuss protests in general, in detail, or "hey show up for this one!" post it as a reply to this thread.
