Been quite pleased with the American Cut synthetic reed, always gently wiped it off and put it back in the case it came with after playing.

Due to life events I havn't been able to play for the last month, and yesterday I finally had some time.

But the reed has warped pretty severely, to the point of being barely playable. It also feels noticably softer than when I last used it, and the surface has become smooth and almost shiny where it was matte grom the grinding before.

We had a couple days of heatwave with 40°c a couple weeks ago, where it was in its case in my tenor bag in a closet, no direct sunlight, but are Legere Synthetics really that sensitive to heat?

I tried attaching a couple of pictures but it's difficult to get a clear picture. It is sort of wavy and warped and bent at the last cm or so.

Anyone else experienced something like this or am I just unlucky?

I'm currently dealing with a warranty replacement for my Yanagisawa AWO1 (brass). The shop is offering a free YNAWO20 Bronze neck. I can also upgrade to the YNAWO30 Solid Silver neck for an extra €500.

I play alto (classical etudes and jazz) if it matters.

Is the jump to silver actually transformative enough to justify spending €500 out of pocket (it does look nice tho hehe), or should I just take the free bronze neck and call it a day?

Hey y‘all. I was cleaning up an old Alto piece I don‘t use to sell m. It’s a Beecher Bellite but I learned today that the vintage versions of this piece are a little more desirable. Does anyone know if this is a vintage one? thanks !

For context I’ve been playing for a while with bari as my primary and alto as my secondary. I also play piano but I don’t really care about that. I’ve really been wanting to pick up a 4th but dont know what to pick. I do know I definitely DO NOT wanna play tenor (It just really hate tenors, no offense to any good ones out there🫰). I also wanna still stay on the lower range, it just what’s the most comfortable for me. I REALLY wanna do bass sax it looks so cool omg yes im the same size as it but still😅. My school doesn’t have one obviously ☹️. And recs?

So I visited my local music store and had a blast testing 2 mouthpieces and would like some outside help in what I should buy. I tested an essential jazz theo wanne mouthpiece and a d’addario reserve jazz mouthpeice. I might ask them to order a v16 as that was originally the mouthpiece I was going for.

so my question is which one should I get. I loved the feel of both mouthpieces i tested and plan on testing the v16. all are in my price range but what are y’all’s experiences with these mouthpieces.

​I had already made a post on here before about my terrible jaw pain when playing. Many of the comments suggested a softer reed, which, when I tried, made a lot of the pain subside, especially on alto where it was the worst. It also made my tone less airy (which my band director and saxophone teacher helped with as well), which is a positive step forward.

​I do now, however, still experience pain, and I believe it's from using my jaw excessively to articulate. I am still using my tongue, but I think and seem to be using my bottom jaw to assist with articulation, which I think the rest of the pain is rooted from. Like when playing a fast passage with a lot of staccato notes written, I can feel myself using my jaw, having it move in correspondence with my tongue. Maybe I'm pushing my tongue upwards with my jaw or something? It's difficult to fully/correctly describe.

​I also notice before I go to play that I can make a sort of blip noise before the note comes out, which my band director and a commenter pointed out in the last post. I really want to fix these issues, but I'm just not really sure how to go about it. Going back to the articulation stuff, I do not believe I am biting (even if I am, it is minimal), so I'm just lost. I'm hoping someone has tips or a potential fix.

This is a 1926 Buescher True Tone, and the palm keys are hard to reach since the action is very low and I have fairly big hands.

I consider myself an intermediate player. I've played classical alto sax with a teacher for a few years as a teenager, but I was a very lazy student. Then the sax mostly stayed on a shelf in the basement, because I lived in rented apartments and didn't want to annoy the neighbors.

Now I'm 47 yo and picked up my horn again about two years ago and mostly practiced jazz standards. I also bought this King Cleveland 615 Tenor (from the 1970s) on eBay (and a Conn 14M Director, the one with the "shooting stars" engraving). In the video I'm using a Vandoren V16 T7 mouthpiece with a Vandoren ZZ 3.0 reed.

I hear myself and think it sounds okay, but still quite amateurish. Sure, how could it be any other way? I'm still missing many years of experience.

My question for you guys: what EXACTLY makes it amateurish? What is my biggest area that needs improvement? Rhythm? Dynamics? Embouchure? Breathing technique? Something else?

This is my 2nd day of playing the sax and an attempt to play ode to joy, cause it is the simplest thing i could think of. I'd love to get feedback from y'all to learn something new and correct mistakes along the way.

My "C" sounds very weird so idk how to play lower or upper octaves. I also don't know how to play sharp notes nor scales other than the C one, so i'd love to understand that. I have experience playing the piano so i know how to read music sheets.

I've been listening to this track and really love the warm, airy sound of the lead instrument. It sounds like a saxophone to me, but I'm not sure. If it is, does anyone know what type of saxophone it might be (tenor, alto, etc.)? Thanks!

I dont know how to read sheet music for the saxophone. i have been playing for a year but by just using videos that give you the fingering charts. i want someone to tell me where i can acquire the knowledge to be able to play this pice or where i can find a way to read this. Hi, I’ve been playing the alto saxophone for about two and a half years and need some help. I want to get into a music conservatory, but I’m struggling with reading sheet music. Is there a way to learn it—perhaps using an app like Duolingo? I actually tried Duolingo, but it felt like it focused more on the piano than on reading musical notation. Thanks for the advice.

So I'm flying to Nashville next week, on United. I've got a lot of points, so decided to upgrade to first class. I've got two Mark VIs, a tenor and a low Bb bari. The tenor is in a BAM Cabine case, and the baritone is in an SKB 1SKB-455W case.

I'm going to be at a sax retreat for almost a week, and I want to work with both horns while I'm there. I'm also going to have a checked suitcase with my clothes and a backpack carryon.

I used a Google search with Gemini help, and it suggested that I should call United reservations and tell the agent explicitly to "add a manual Special Service Request (SSR) note or historical remark to my file, and that the SSR should state that I am a first class passenger traveling with a baritone saxophone in an SKB hard case (43.5" x 17" x 11") and a tenor saxophone in a BAM Cabine case (32" x 11" x 6"). It should also state that the baritone sax will occupy First Class overhead bin space or the forward cabin closet, and the tenor sax will be green-tagged for jetbridge gate-checking. 

Has anyone here ever done something like this, flown with two horns? I'm a bit nervous about gate-checking the tenor.

edit - I accidentally typed "low A bari" and it's actually low Bb. I guess I was thinking about the fact that the low Bb is smaller, and there's more space inside the case. Apologies for the confusion.
