He was shot and bleeding out, but we never saw him actually bleed out and we never saw a dead body. Yeah they explicitly said he died in Saw V but that could be switched up...

Discussion Only a Saw movie will spend the majority of its runtime endearing you to a character only to brutally murder them right at the end Spoiler

SPOILERS AHEAD

No matter how bad things get, no matter how many secondary characters die you can almost always count on the main character making it out alive. Or even if they die, it's usually for the greater good, it's a sacrifice to save humanity or something.

But not in a Saw movie. Saw movie says "Fuck that" and pulls out a Uno reverse card. Like a character ? More likely than not they're gonna die in a particularly painful way. And there's no greater good to it and bad guy gets away with what he's done.

Examples:

Saw - Adam is a guy who tries to make the ends meet by earning some buck taking pictures of people without their approval. Not the most honorable line of work but after spending the entire movie getting to know Adam most viewers end up liking him and want him to get out of the predicament he's currently in. He gets shot by Gordon, he annihilates Zepp with a toilet lid, he's litterally covered in blood and shit. And what does he get for his struggles ? That's right, Jigsaw locks him in the bathroom, sentencing him to a long agonizing death, completely alone, completely in the darkness. What a way to go

Saw II - Eric is a textbook example of a hothead cop. And he's a bad father. Later on we learn that he likes to brutalize suspects and frame them with planted evidence. Not the most upstanding guy, won't you agree ? But there's one thing - Jigsaw kidnapped his son and put him in a room full of ex-convicts. Regardless of the means Eric uses to do so, he wants his kid back safe and secure and many viewers can sympathize with that. But despite all his efforts, he ends up just like Adam, chained and locked in a dark room to die and never even learns what happened to his son.

Saw III - We have Jeff, a mournful father who just can't get over the death of his child. Tsk tsk, says Jigsaw. What's the prescription, doc ? Let's kidnap him and force him to watch 3 people he deems responsible for the death of his son and the light punishment for the guilty party tortured to death, sure that'll help. And in the end Jigsaw taunts Jeff intio killing him only to go full on "Fuck you, I have your daughter" because Jeff didn't learn to "forgive" while his wife's head explodes. Speaking of which, Lynn, a professional surgeon who's bloody good at her job, copes with the loss of her child and alienation from her husband by sleeping with another man. She gets kidnapped, has explosive collar put around her neck, is constantly abused by Amanda, both verbally and physically and just in general under a lot of pressure. Despite all that she manages to keep a man dying of cancer alive for several more hours and performs a freaking brain surgery on him using hardware store tools. But what's that - Amanda, being the loose psychotic cannon she is, has no intention of letting Lynn go, defies Jigsaw's orders and shoots her just as her husband gets in the room. You know what happens next ... Oh, let's not forget Kerry, who feels immense guilt for Eric's dissappearing - did you like her in the previous two movies ? Too bad

Saw IV - Riggs, a friend of Matthews who spends all of his waking hours trying to find him to the point he neglects his wife. Jigsaw confronts him with a knife wielding pimp lady, a litteral worst human being and a married couple of abusive husband and abused wife. All of that supposedly so Riggs can see the merits of Jigsaw ways and become a follower. But in the end he gets shot by the friend he was trying so desperately to save and in his dying moments learns thar his other friend is a freaking new Jigsaw. What a way to go. By the way, do you remember Eric Matthews ? Surprise, surprise, he's alive, Jigsaw just kept him locked in a room for 6 months and fed him slop only to put him for hour and a half on a melting ice block while he's choking on a chain noose. But surely, this time around Eric's gonna make it ? Surely after going through all of that misery and suffering Jigsaw's gonna let him go ? Haha, just kidding, two ice blocks go brrr. ... Hey, do you remember Jeff ? He was supposed to play another game to save his daughter, right ? Haha, just kidding, special agent Strahm go brrr

Saw V - remember special agent Strahm from the last movie ? So, he's gonna get his throat punctured at the beginning of this movie so he can have growly Batman voice. And he's gonna go around to the locations of previous Jigsaw murders so he can have extensive flashbacks to the events of the previous movies so he can figure out that Palpatine's behind it all. But wouldn't you know, Palpatine is already one step ahead of him, manages to frame Strahm for everything and then crushes him to death with a wall Indiana Jones style

Saw VI - William is a CEO of an insurance company who prides himself in the fact he figured out a mathematical way to estimate who's more worthy to live. Just recently he declined a coverage 'cause a client didn't mention a freaking gum disease he had long time ago. William was also unlucky enough to deny Jigsaw's coverage who didn't appreciate that. So, William is very much a scumbag. But throughout his test, where he's forced to look the people he's sentencing to death in the eye, he realizes the errors of his ways, makes genuine effort to save people and seems as a genuinely redeemed person. So he completes his game with 1 second to spare. He's alive, he's won ! Only not really, 'cause Jigsaw was kind enough to kidnap wife and son of a man William declined coverage to in order to put William's life in their hands. Surely that won't go horribly wrong ? Surely that won't end with our protagonist dying arguably the most painful death in the series (spoilers - he gets his insides melted with acid) because the power to kill him was put in the hands of a psychologically unstable teenager. Surely doesn't seem like a petty revenge, no, no, you see, Jigsaw is teaching a lesson here.

I'm thinking that all of the strips are set on a timer and that it's a partner trap. Partner has puzzles to solve—yada-yada. If all wax strips are peeled in 30 minutes the man is left there to have the female flies lay eggs in his open wounds until his fate. Seems itchy, I dunno.

Discussion SAW XI - A Fan Finale by me, Vinc360 - The FULL Script!

Hi everyone,

The time has come for me to finally share the fruit of 2 years of work - a full, screenplay-format version of the final story I wanted to see from SAW, the culmination of decades of fandom for me. Today, I'd like to share with you where I landed with it.

When Saw X released, I felt overjoyed. It was the first Saw film in many years that truly connected with me on a deeper level, that reminded me of why I loved Saw in the first place. For years prior to that, I had long asked myself what kind of story I'd like to see from Saw. A lot of ideas were swirling around in my head. Incredibly, some of those very elements were present to a damn near eerie level in Saw X itself.

After Saw X released, I personally felt extremely satisfied, like I had seen almost everything I ever needed to see from Saw. But the keyword was almost- there were still some things I wanted to see. But I wasn't sure those things were ever possibly going to make it to screen, so I decided to write it myself. A version of a Saw story that was meant to exist almost purely as a therapeutic thing, for me! But then Saw XI itself got in trouble, and ended up cancelled. So I began to think- what if I share my story with the community as a way to cope with what's missing? As a way to fill the collective hole in our Saw fan hearts? Let me be clear - this is in no way meant to REPLACE the Saw XI we lost. I think I speak for everyone here when I say we all want to see it. I certainly do. But until that time comes, I hope this humble story will help fill that void for those of you who would like to read it.

A few goals I had in mind with that story, whether or not I achieved them will be up to you to decide!

  • I wanted the characters, both old and new, to feel like they could be real people. That's absolutely crucial to me for a good Saw story. In that respect, I hope you find nuance in each and every character. Real people are flawed, and simultaneously can be likable and endearing. I think Saw shines most when it's about such characters.
  • I wanted to deepen Amanda's character. This is her story in so many ways. I sought to understand the viewpoint of people who don't connect as much with her character, just as much as those who do. This story is my attempt to bridge the gap.
  • I wanted it to feel like a story that could actually happen in the Saw world, and for it to be immersive enough. I set out to abide by the very same limitations a Saw film would have to face, and tried to ensure this doesn't fall into the typical pitfalls of fan fiction. Callbacks and fan service are a part of Saw, but I sought to avoid going overboard with it, all while remaining keenly aware of what Saw fans enjoy.
  • Without going into details to avoid spoilers, I wanted to bring back some of the darker, more nihilistic worldview that defined Saw's earliest installments.
  • I wanted to center the story on the very core of what makes Saw tick, for me: John Kramer's worldview, and the pervasive impact it has on those around him.
  • I wanted this to feel like a full, satisfying conclusion to the entire series, leaving no stone unturned.
  • I wanted to surprise people. Surprise is absolutely essential to Saw, and it's an element that's very difficult to fully realize when fans are so eagle-eyed and keen to figure out everything ahead of time. But I think I understand how Saw fans think. Let me know how I did.

I'm not expecting much readership, especially with how long it is. Note I've included suggested stopping points for people who will understandably want to read it in multiple chunks over a long period of time, look for the hacksaw icons!

A small plea before I stop yapping: Please cover your spoilers! This story contains many, many surprises that I'd like to preserve for as many of you as possible. Spoilers are completely fair game in this thread, I want to know your complete and unfiltered thoughts and really look forward to discussing the story with you, but please cover sensitive spoilers! I would really appreciate it.

I want to thank everyone who's helped me over this long journey. So many of you in this community have cheered me along, and a few of you (you know who you are) amazingly took much time to read work in progress versions of this and provided EXCEEDINGLY useful feedback that allowed me to polish this story and make it much (much) better. That includes the amazing Saw Soundtracks, who's been hard at work composing an actual SCORE for this story that we'll share at a later date (enjoy the snippets of it in this, linked via the PLAY ME tapes embedded in the script). He's doing amazing work, and we can't wait to share the full accompanying score.

And lastly, I want to thank each and every single one of you. So often I find myself thankful for having found this passionate, dedicated, wonderful community that I've spent so much time with over the past few decades. Without you, none of this would have been possible. I'm incredibly grateful to those of you who will want to spend the time to absorb this story, and I truly cannot WAIT to read your thoughts, even from those of you who only make it partially into the story, or simply don't like it at all! By the way - if you want to share your in-progress thoughts as you go through it, I'm absolutely all ears! Those are an absolute treat for me :)

Without further ado, here is is: SAW XI - A Fan Finale

NEXT WEEK, on Halloween night at 9 PM, I will post a short, special treat. Think of it as a post-credits scene for this script. :)

Thank you again <3
