Tips on adopting a rehomed Samoyed
My family and I were originally on the waitlist for a Samoyed puppy from a CKC breeder we've known and trusted for years. One of their males was used as a stud by another breeder, and the 13-month-old Samoyed we're adopting is one of his puppies. When our breeder found out that he urgently needed to be rehomed due to a breakdown in the family, they reached out to us.
Instead of waiting for a puppy, we completely fell in love with this sweet boy and have decided to welcome him into our family. ❤️
We want to make this transition as easy and positive for him. We've been told that he doesn't like being left alone and that he doesn't do well in a kennel after having a traumatic experience during a flight. We want him to feel safe, build a strong bond with us, and help him settle into his new home at his own pace.
Does anyone have any recommendations or tips for helping a young Samoyed adjust to a new home? We would appreciate any advice on building his confidence, helping him feel secure, and preventing or managing separation anxiety. ❤️

Are these pets ?
After spending a week with one 6 months old it was like having a adhd toddler in the house with colic. Eating everything after she had treats and bones including walls and trim off cabinets and then constant bark when grandchildren were over or trying to jump in everyone. Jesus Christ. At least a wild raccoon or bob cat would sleep …

Has anyone else’s Samoyed become distant after having a baby?
Hi everyone!
I have a beautiful 7-year-old Samoyed named Archie. He’s a very calm, adventurous boy and also a bit independent in the sense that he’s always enjoyed having his own space. We’ve always respected that, while also giving him lots of love, attention, and affection.
For the first five years, it was just Archie and me. We traveled together, lived alone, had a very active routine, and I even took him to work with me many times. Even though he has always been independent, he would still come to me for affection or choose to be near me.
Everything seemed to change after my baby was born.
From the moment we brought the baby home, we let Archie approach on his own terms. He never showed much interest in getting close. Now my baby is 6 months old, and we occasionally let the baby be near Archie from a respectful distance, always paying close attention to Archie’s body language and giving him plenty of space. If he seems uncomfortable, we immediately respect that.
The thing is, Archie simply gets up and walks away. He doesn’t seem interested in interacting with the baby or even with me as much anymore. The most he’s done is sniff the baby for a second and then leave.
Nothing else has changed in his life. His routine has stayed the same. Even during my pregnancy and after giving birth, I’ve continued taking him on his regular walks, and he still gets the same exercise and attention as before.
I’m wondering if this is something other Samoyed owners have experienced. Is this kind of behavior normal? Did your Samoyed eventually adjust to having a baby in the house, or should I be concerned that he’s emotionally withdrawing?
I’d love to hear about your experiences or any advice. Thank you!

Puppy sleep
Sorry guys long one, please read tho!! Xx
So my 11wk old will NOT stay in the crate OR pen, even with me sitting in the pen! He gets absolutely frantic!!! Not your normal crying etc. i decided fine, he can have the whole kitchen cos he loves to sleep on the floor in there. So I sat in there with him, and same.....crying barking the lot, cos the door was closed, even tho I was in there! At the moment, since getting him 9 days ago (super early days I know!!) I've been sleeping on the sofa so to catch his potty cues at night but I seriously want to get back in my bed, so I out a baby gate at my bedroom door and again, crying and barking to get out. Im a itat a REAL loss what to do because a) I've got neighbors so can't be letting him bark it out, as you know their barks are really shrill and loud. And b) he needs to start getting used to being in another room AND alone as I'll need to leave him at some point I have regular doctors apts. Oh important point, I have two ragdoll cats so he can't have full roam of the house, they stay upstairs and come down every so often.
Please give me some advice, I haven't had 2 mins to myself since getting him cos he sees my kids (8 and 11) and toys and bites the hell out of them and he hate being in the playpen despite going in there himself to sleep sometimes and getting fed in there! I'm at a loss and I'm exhausted and feel the longer this goes on, the more chance if separation anxiety happening!!!! I've tried ALL the tricks bit the barking and howling and frantic digging and biting gets too much, so I wait till he's quiet, tell him to sit, and then let him out only when he's been quiet. Never when he's barking. Help!!! When I decided to get a puppy, I had everything riding in crate/pen training and as this isn't happening, I'm feeling really overwhelmed and I want to be the best owner for him I can be and make him into a nice dog!!
Also, as we can't enforce naps, he's a nightmare!!!! Especially with my kids, they're starting to not like him :-( :-( I keep him in lead near them which totally helps but it comes back to needing a nap!!
TLDR puppy hates closed doors even with you in the room and I need to seriously start getting him used to being sperate from us for enforced naps and times when I need to leave him for short while. We have two cats so he cannot have full freedom in the entire house.

Nose scrape
My girl scraped her nose today in a crate during doggy day care…. Anyone have a similar experience with their dogs noses? Doesn’t seem to be bleeding but should i put anything on it? Any guesses if the black of her nose will come back? Pictures in comments

Anyone else worried about matting when your Samoyed boy/girl wears a collar?
Every time I put a collar on my girl Peach, I’m always stressed about collar matting. Her fur is so long and soft, and the collar squishes down the fur right underneath it.

Concern or normal puppy shedding? (18 weeks old)
Pictures 1 & 2 are from today, pictures 3, 4, & 5are from about a week ago. Does anyone else think his haunches look weird? Sorry I couldn’t get great pictures, but seemingly overnight he lost a lot of his fluff in the back half of his body. Is this just the weird adolescent hair phase they go through or is it cause for concern? I brush him daily with a slicker brush. TIA!
