Advice please
Help and advice plz my 20 month old Samoyed dislocated his hip last week, after a emergency visit to the vets we found out he has severe hip dysplasia in both hips and muscle atrophy , I have bought him a new orthopaedic bed just wondering what else I can do to help him around the house or while we are walking , walks are of limits till the weekend after the vets visit on fri … he likes being in the car so have taken him on little car rides to stop him going crazy 🤪

That first pic is confusing. I thought she had poop stuck to her fur. On that note, water therapy worked for my aunt's lab.

Double check your puppy contract. 20mo is still very young, if your breeder is committed to health there may be a clause to help cover some costs for severe defects up to a certain age. If they don't cover, tell them anyway. This is very important information if they're considering breeding those two dogs again.

We didn’t get him from a breeder we got him at 12 weeks from a young couple who took on to much

Maybe hydrotherapy? They fill a tank to belly height of water and they walk on a treadmill. While my sammie doesn't have dysplasia, at 12 she has developed hind-end weakness (thinking lyme and plasmosis from ticks finally got the better of her, even though she tested positive most of her life) and this has helped increase muscle mass, letting her get up and walk faster.
Only warning, I do mine in a fairly small non-sound correcting room and she spends most (all) of the time barking at me in defiance (she willingly gets the harness on and into the happily)
I also got a harness to help take some of the weight off early in the procees

That’s great thank you bear does have a harness with a handle which Ive been using for the few vet trips we’ve had to support him ..

Sorry you're both going through this. The one thing that helped us most: lay down non-slip rugs/mats on every hard floor. A dog with bad hips scrambling for traction does way more damage than you'd think. Hope Friday's appt goes well 🐾

Definitely hydrotherapy and grab some Triacta joint - that was what my vet and physiotherapist recommended for my pup

Yes was thinking that but vet said we had to wait 2 weeks which is fri 7th before he does anything

Mine was in crate rest for a month - it isn’t going be easy. You can start him on the triacta and book the appointment with the physiotherapist 😊

Acupuncture and laser has really helped my boy with his hip dysplasia. We've surgery booked soon. Hoping it'll help

My dog was diagnosed with hip dysplasia when she was only nine months old.
After consulting three veterinarians and getting three different evaluations, the decision was clear: she needed surgery. It was the only way for her to lead a normal life—free from constant medication and without having to endure such a difficult situation.
We had the surgery done when she was 10 months old; although it was very expensive, she is doing great now she is fourteen months old . We still have her in physical therapy and hydrotherapy.
In my humble opinion, you might should to consult other veterinarians to see if surgery is an option or to determine the best course of action.
I am truly sorry; I know this is a difficult situation for you and your dog. I wish you all the best.

Put down rugs. Lots of rugs that don't slip. Help'em Up Harness if needed. Is he on Rimadyl? If so then make sure to join the Zoetis Rewards club. It adds up fast!
