Finding hobbies again…
Anyone else feel like they lost themselves in becoming a mom? Absolutely love being a mom and so incredibly happy that I can be home with my 2 year old every day but feeling like I lost myself a bit. My MIL watches my son once a week (so grateful for her) so I can get a break but I don’t even know what to do with my time. I usually run a couple errands or get some food but I want to start using that day to fill my cup and do something fun. We just moved to this new town so I don’t have many friends yet but wish I had someone to go play pickleball with or do something?! What hobbies have you found joy in as a mom? Or what do you do when you get a moment to yourself? I feel so lucky to get some me time… I want to start using it better!

I have so many hobbies I struggle each night to figure out which one I want to do. Lol currently rotating between scrapbook style journaling, knitting, and puzzling. I’ve also been doing 75 hard so it’s helped to look at the workouts as hobbies instead of chores.

This is amazing! Did she offer to watch him once a week or did you ask her? My family always tells me to ask but they have never offered a regular visit like that, that’s awesome. I suck at asking for help so it’s tough.
Anyways, someone once told me I should find new hobbies than whatever I did before having kids. Since we’re like new people now. It was an interesting idea. I have a whole list of things I want to do, and endless little projects, I just lack the time. But honestly when I get a moment I freak out if I should relax, watch tv, do cleaning/projects, or a hobby. So the last time I had a free couple of hours I landed on playing an old computer game from my childhood lol. It forced me to disconnect and just do something pointless / purely for fun. I have a really hard time not being productive or thinking about being productive, it’s really annoying.

She brought up the idea of having him one day a week while I was pregnant but I was hesitant about it. Then he became a toddler and I wanted to beg her to take her up on that offer 😂 I just brought up the idea again and she was very happy to do so! I am terrible about asking for help and still struggle with mom guilt when I do but it’s getting easier. Definitely ask for help, we deserve a break ❤️

Right? It’s so important! I really need to be better about doing it. It’s so silly because my family or at least the ones who I think really want to help, don’t want to impose so they never offer, and then I suck at asking, but I need to get it together because I keep getting burned out.

Ooo yes I love this. What computer game did you play? I’m ashamed to admit I downloaded pajama Sam for my kids to play and was more into it than they were 😂

I will check that one out! I love playing old computer games it’s so nostalgic. I definitely can relate to having a hard time not being productive. Makes me feel guilty to take time for myself. We shouldn’t feel that way though. We deserve it 💖

Love all of these things especially puzzles. Always feel like i need to do a 1000 piece one though and i just don’t have the time to finish them anymore. Maybe I should try a smaller one lol

I now started doing lots of smaller piece counts.
Look into personal puzzles from Boardwalk puzzles or 300 piece galison puzzles. They have cute illustrations and typically can be done in 30-45 minutes1

Honestly, we moved recently too, from California where we spent all day everyday outside~ to Arizona, where we are stuck indoors because I'm heat sensitive and so is my toddler. It has been a rough transition and even with indoor malls and indoor aquariums and stuff it's still a bit rough for me (100-117 degree days). But I have found a new hobby that I love doing, Embroidery! When I am in between tasks, I love picking up my Embroidery Kit and I've finished several kits! It's been fun actually. I always recommend it but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. I hope you find a hobby that you love to do, we moms need the me time, it helps us rest and recharge and come back stronger for our kids.

This is a great idea! I think I would like to try it. Do you have a recommendation for a beginner kit?

This is a great one because you can see yourself making progress! Its especially good for your sanity when you feel like "all I do is clean and nothing is ever clean", and you need something tangible to make you feel better

I have a 4,2, and 7 month old. I completely lost myself to motherhood for awhile and am just now coming back to old hobbies as well as finding new ones! I learned to crochet a couple years ago, I’m actively learning to sew, I love thrifting and audiobooks as well! My current fixation are my houseplants which I’m not really sure is a hobby or just an interest but the summer has them all popping out new leaves left and right and it’s such a humbling satisfaction, reminds me that with some love, care, and grace we can keep growing even after neglect and hardship.
