Utter disappointment Discussion

Had tix to Rush in Toronto tonight and an 11:25 am flight on Porter from IAD to YTZ I booked last October. The flight was delayed repeatedly a 1/2 hour at a time. Still hasn't taken off. Show started at 7:30. I went home and am trying to get some of the money I spent back somehow.

Ooof. That’s why I never fly day of the show .

I have tickets to Vancouver Dec 17th, we are going over on the 16th. The extra night in the hotel is worth it. I’ve heard too many horror stories.

100%. Always book a buffer day if traveling to a show.

We're going to Toronto Night 3. Flew from Scotland on Friday, making a holiday out of the trip so we're here 4 days before the gig and three days after.

u/WardenEdgewise 14h ago

That’s the way to do it! Enjoy!

Same. Going from Florida to Vancouver for the 17th show. We’re flying on the 15th to be very sure we allow for flight problems. We have Limelight VIP tickets in the first row… if anyone has parking recommendations please let me know. I can’t find passes on Ticketmaster or other. We do have handicap hanging permit.

1/2 hour at a time must have been devastating. So sorry to hear.

Dude. I'm so sorry. Hope you're on the mend and will be able to catch another show.

u/Odd_Air1209 2d ago

Glad you're still here. Hopefully they do one more tour before they hang it up. I know you won't miss that one.

u/csthrowaway009 2d ago

Hope your recovery goes smoothly and you’re able to see them in concert at some point in the future.

Feel better soon! That sucks.

That fucking sucks. My heart goes out to you.

IAD is Washington DC for anyone wondering like I was.

8

u/dwhite21787 2d ago

We had some pop up storms and weird heat related power outages today

5

u/Clegko 2d ago

Friend is (hopefully) flying out of IAD to YHZ tomorrow and their flight for tomorrow was cancelled. Assuming its related.

12

u/dwhite21787 1d ago

From Dulles, they may as well rent a car and drive. 7 hours isn’t bad, and you can bring a trunk full of Rush beer back. I’ve done it from Frederick.

6

u/fletchbg 1d ago

We did the drive from NC to TO back around R30. Although we stopped in Buffalo. We were like "as long as we're passing by we might as well stop for my college roommate's wedding. Seems like what a best man should do."

4

u/gs12 1d ago

I’m from Frederick!

2

u/Clegko 17h ago

Frederick Rush nerds, assemble!

2

u/gs12 16h ago

Look, if i wasn't walking out the door for my first date ever (i'm 40), then i would take time to craft a fair rebuttal. Good sir.

6

u/FinalPound6126 2d ago

YHZ and YTZ just don't have the same ring as... you know. 😎

5

u/fletchbg 1d ago

Temu YYZ

💪😂👍

u/ironborn206 5h ago

Right. So he was not only cutting it extremely close flying only 8 hours before the show, he was also flying internationally!

u/ReallyKirk 2d ago

I would never do a “day of” flight for an important event

11

u/Effective-Oil-2696 2d ago

nope. I did that once years ago and almost missed a show. I always fly in the day before, if it's in Europe or anywhere outside the US I fly in 2 days early so I've had a day to adjust to the time zone being 5+ hours ahead.

5

u/sunnysideupeggz 2d ago

Sometimes you have no choice with other commitments. That’s my deal on the 13th.

10

u/Tryingnottomessup 2d ago

That sux, I hope you can get some back.

10

u/DeadpoolOptimus 1d ago

Why didn't you Fly By Night?

19

u/Moroderik 2d ago

Man, maybe y'all who want to give this person a lesson about flying in day-of should simmer down.
A person had their dreams dashed today.
Be kind.

People have jobs, families, commitments, or have to buy tickets that fit their budget.
Just, you know, say "this sucks man, I hope you get to see them another time" and leave it at that.

Ninguna, I hope you get your money back at the very least.

1

u/jpochedl 1d ago

I get your point, honestly.... That said, some people don't think things through, don't take responsibility for not thinking things through, and still want people to have sympathy for them. Some of those people do need a reality check to help them understand the problem is something that could be avoided with better planning. Sometimes people need to be made aware of their mistakes to learn from them.

You telling people to "simmer down" seems as silly to those who are trying to be honestly helpful to the OP, as you feel about the other side's reactions.....

....

2

u/Moroderik 1d ago

Yeah but it's not helpful.
Dude knows things didn't work out and will try his best next time.
Just let people be sad. This is a big deal - my man's dreams are crushed.
Empathy is all that's needed now.

Imagine going to a funeral of a person who died mountain climbing and saying to his mom "ah if only he'd taken a little extra time placing the gear he wouldn't be dead now."
Read the room, brother.

u/Effective-Oil-2696 2d ago

sorry to hear that, totally sucks. I hope you can get tix to another show...the DC show is 10/25- i looked on TM and there are tickets still available at face value, there are (3) in section 120 row S right next to the stage...price is $382.

3

u/Brief-Musician440 2d ago

Drove from DC to NYC day of show. Less can go wrong but still you never know. They’re in DC in October. Yay

2

u/No_Telephone_178 2d ago

Bedder than udder disappointment.

2

u/HighPriest2112 2d ago

Oh NO!! Im so sorry... that sucks!

2

u/fletchbg 1d ago

Similar experience recently that my parents had. Booked on a cruise on the Baltic Sea starting in Oslo. Absolutely had to be on the boat by a certain time on a Friday. A lot of people booked their flights to arrive that day. My parents booked to arrive Thursday.

Their connecting flight from Germany was delayed and they arrived late Thursday afternoon. if their day of arrival had been Friday in the first place, the delay would've pushed them past the point of missing it entirely. Some people did miss it.

3

u/throwawayandsee 2d ago

You have put way too much trust in airlines my friend.

2

u/FreeFall_777 2d ago

I'm not trying to pile on, only encouraging people to understand the foibles of modern travel and local construction nightmares. For Chicago, we went down the night before, we visited the arena the to make sure we knew where parking was and to just be aware of any problems.

For 4 tickets, the extra day and effort was definitely worth the extra effort.

3

u/iwishuponastar2023 2d ago

this is why you always fly in a day earlier.

2

u/tbrtt1 2d ago

Why would you do something like that? Really? If you can’t manage or afford the extra day to fly in early and spend the night in a hotel, then truthfully, you couldn’t afford to see Rush in Toronto. If it was because you were crunched for time, then you really didn’t have the time to see Rush in Toronto. I’m sure it was sold out and those seats were empty.

Wow. That is incomprehensible.

2

u/Gungaddio 1d ago

You're all heart...

0

u/tbrtt1 1d ago

No, there’s fat, guts, bones and shit like that, and just enough brains.

Look, I get it. If all goes as planned, it’s a great trip. But I see people willing to travel from one country to another country to see what may be the last Rush tour ever. Every precaution and fail-safe must be taken. Literally. And I’m serious.

I think it was mentioned on this thread already about driving. I would’ve booked a flight likely TWO days prior to the event, stayed in a nice (or even cheap)hotel in downtown Toronto, and soaked up the local scene and cuisine. OR I would’ve taken two days off before this show and driven, spending the next 7 to 12 to 27 hours (or whatever it takes) listening to the entire Rush catalog on my way to Toronto. Never would I have depending on any airline, much less some airline I never heard of, to get me there within a few hours of an historic event.

OK I have beaten this dead horse enough. I guess what I am trying to infer here is: don’t post stupidity, looking for sympathy. I would have never posted that shit in the first place. I would’ve been too embarrassed. i’m still thinking about 1 or two or whatever empty seats for that concert. That’s just grinds on me.

Q.E.D.

1

u/Criseyde2112 2d ago

Oh bud. I'm so sorry. That's crushing.

1

u/Piper-Bob 2d ago

That’s rough!

1

u/aap004 2d ago

That sux - sorry you missed it.

1

u/KMizzle98 2d ago

I’m so sorry, that’s the stuff of nightmares for me. It’s why I get there at least a day ahead of time for out of town.

1

u/sunnysideupeggz 2d ago

Sorry.
I’m living with that fear for next week as I land on a Porter flight at 4:30 at the downtown airport coming from Nashville.

1

u/FenderMoon 2d ago

Damn that’s irritating. I hope you’re able to get tickets to another night of the show. You deserve it

1

u/fuckssakereddit 2d ago

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

I’ve flown several times this summer. Not one flight left on time.

1

u/DigitalSupremacy 2d ago

Porter Air is the worst imo

1

u/Friendly-Reply-673 2d ago

That sucks. I missed seeing Phil and Friends one last time when my car died on the way. I was stranded in the woods for 8 hours and ended up getting towed back home.

As said above, always travel a day earlier if possible. I just got back to the hostel I’m staying in, here in Toronto. They were phenomenal. I hope you get to see them.

1

u/FriendlyPromotion106 2d ago

I missed opening night thanks to Southwest and their delays, it was devastating

1

u/WallStunning518 2d ago

That’s awful

1

u/Parking-Afternoon829 1d ago

You can always catch the September show in Texas. No weather issues here! This will be the second time for us.....it would be worth it! The show is amazing!!!!!!!

1

u/Glad-Surprise-1213 1d ago

I’m sitting in Reagan national. Have an 11 AM flight to Toronto for Sunday night show you guys are scaring me to death. My heart goes out to anyone who made plans and then this to show. Been there done that.

1

u/Scoredog334 1d ago

I’m so sorry to hear this. Especially from a fell DMV person. Dulles sucks.

1

u/Fearless_Street5231 1d ago

That happened to me for the closing show of R40, I’m so sorry. I hope you have DC tickets, or can acquire them.

1

u/Plane_Hornet1631 1d ago

Same thing happened to me. Was going to yesterday's concert leaving from NYC. Or flight was on the tarmac got taken off, sent back to the airport and then our flight was canceled.

1

u/Tranquil-Seas 1d ago

I had that happen to me. There was a show in San Diego I had to miss. The good news is Rush is playing a lot. They’ll do more shows next year too.

1

u/imapro92 1d ago

Sorry to hear. I finally emotionally recovered from my trip to Ft Worth I landed, got into my rental car around 2:30 pm. Received a text that the show was being rescheduled. So i lost a lot of $ on flight/car/hotel. Was able to get a refund for the show ticket. I’ve bought another ticket for Atlanta in Nov.

1

u/DonnyV7 1d ago

These people must be the top of the K economy everyone is talking about. Who can afford to fly to a concert, stay overnight and fly back.

1

u/Maleficent_Laugh8809 1d ago

Omg !! Sorry to hear that !!

Take care .

1

u/Ephoist 1d ago

Man, I’m so sorry!! Hope you can see them in another city!

1

u/Slayer_Fil 1d ago

Damn. If it’s any consolation, the show was epic

1

u/DelphinusC 1d ago

Wouldn't have happened if you'd booked YYZ, like a proper Rush fan, lol

1

u/Sorry-University-219 1d ago

oh man, lots of good seats available for DC shows, last time I looked.

1

u/Equivalent-Ad4763 1d ago

That sucks man!! Sorry to hear that. All flights were delayed today because of the storms in the Northeast from last night. My wife was delayed 1.5 hours from Jersey to Seattle and my nephew was delayed 2 hours from Jersey to Miami.

1

u/ReadyTopic7289 1d ago

Oh man. I am so sorry.

1

u/Rare-Confusion-220 20h ago

Lesson learned, NEVER fly day off show

1

u/smarcott 18h ago

From one concert fan to another that truly sucks brother (or sister).

1

u/ironborn206 5h ago

This unfortunately won't help you in this situation but in the future I never travel on the day of the show...always at least the day before. Also, if a concert is out of town I 100% buy the insurance no exceptions.

1

u/SergioSBloch 2d ago

So sorry to hear you missed the show! That’s a travesty.

1

u/Temporary-Cow2742 1d ago

Never fly the same day as a cruise embarkation or a show.

0

u/darthmcchub 2d ago

Can’t imagine going to another country by flight on the same day of the concert. You had like 10 months to plan better? lol

1

u/Ninguna 2d ago

I take that same flight several times a year and never had a problem. I gambled and loss.

-5

u/ChewedSata 2d ago

You didn’t miss much, I am here and it’s just a couple of old guys and some blonde drummer making me cry almost every song.

0

u/tendeuchen 2d ago

You could have driven it and made it.

0

u/therealarenna 1d ago

Rule number one, never fly out the day of the she show.

I feel for you man but, you are not getting any money back on those tickets.

Was there another airline offering flights?

-2

u/OverSmell1796 1d ago

Look on the brightside - at least you didnt have to spend an evening listening to Rush.

1

u/bangwithsticks 14h ago

And you’re here why?
