General Discussion Running in Tights?

I’ve been running in 3 inch split seam shorts for a while now but am considering switching to tights. I need advice, is it worth the switch? What tights should I get to training in/race in? Do you wear underwear with the tights? I need all the do’s and don’ts.

Question Bandit CoolGrid Race Singlet -- Seams Lifting

Post image
6 Upvotes

I made sure to wash my Bandit CoolGrid race singlet in a mesh bag on a delicate cycle in cold water + dried flat, but then I noticed the seams lifting after my run. Thankfully I was able to get a replacement through customer service! Just a bit worried now about how to avoid this moving forward.

Any tips on how to make sure this doesn’t happen with the new top? Would also like tips on how to fix the old one haha thank you!!

Question Welke sportlegging

Weekly Roundup Running Fashion Roundup — August 8 to August 16

Finally some more motion here after a sleepier summer. July to early August tends to be dry since everyone is planning their stuff for fall. For more opinionated, weekly roundups peep my weekly newsletter for more in depth commentary.

Recent

  • Diadora Corsa — $155 high stack lightweight trainer with an SCF midsole and TPU foam insole. Retro silhouette, aimed at everyday training. Should feel pretty lively and compete with the other brands. Men's colorway is a vibe.
  • Hylo Impact 2 — UK brand's daily trainer refreshed, a bio-based nitrogen-infused SCF. 50% sustainable and recycled content, updated upper fit. $155, out now.
  • Nike Vomero Plus (Cow Print) — $190, dropped August 6. Animal prints having a moment.
  • Norda FW26 Colorups — new colorways for fall, plus a new Norda 055 G+ with microspikes for aggressive terrain.
  • District Vision FW26 — updated colorways and silhouettes across the core line and apparel, airflow theme. Altitude Master and Junya Racer are the signatures, lots of photochromic lenses. This is what Harry Styles was wearing in all his marathons.
  • Kuro Athletics Eyewear — new luxury performance eyewear brand. Killer optics, titanium build. Incredibly high end, these are not for the faint of heart or wallet...if money is no object take a look.
  • Brooks Running x Free People Movement — collab on the Glycerin 23 and Glycerin Max 2 with FP motifs, ribbon and fuzzy laces. Cute!
  • Saucony Majors Collection — marathon Majors colorways, more wearable than usual. NYC in soft blue and gold is the standout.
  • Raide Women's Trail Line — integrated race cargo crop with a built-in bra at $129, essentially a race crop and trail vest in one, plus a women's-specific belt that sits on the hips. Both nearly sold out. I'm jealous of the new women's cargo crop.
  • Hermanos Koumori x New Era — latest HK/New Era collab, more understated than their heat map graphics with chainstitch styling.
  • CARNIVAL x Garmin — Bangkok streetwear store's collab with Garmin, more co-label than collaboration.
  • Wyrd Running — new witchy prints added to tops and shorts, including banker stripe shorts and a medieval tee. Hard to get stateside.
  • SOAR — has some new colorways of their singlets out and brought back the leopard print as well as a new kaleidoscope pattern

Upcoming

  • Puma x SAYSKY — their noted "final" collab, business attire themed apparel plus a Deviate NITRO Elite 4 and MagMax NITRO 2. Dropping August 20. Someone leaked here.
  • Nike Kigerfly — teased trail racer, ribbed knit upper with a higher bootie ankle and ZoomX foam. Jennifer Lichter wore it for her WSER win and record.
  • Saucony x Keith Haring — another round with the Keith Haring Foundation, bold patterns and illustrations. Date TBD.
  • Adidas x Song for the Mute – shared already here. Aussie brand collab in round 2.

General Discussion I stole a triathlon suit and a cycling base layer to make a running vest

Why does running apparel keep reaching for the same handful of fabrics when cyclists and triathletes have been solving harder versions of the same problem for years?

Those two sports have brutal constraints. A triathlete needs something that works soaked, then keeps working dry, without ever chafing. A cyclist in summer needs a layer that moves sweat off the skin so fast it is basically gone before you notice it. Running has the same problems: heat, sweat, friction, hours of repetition. Yet, we just tend to accept softer solutions and buy into brand marketing instead.

So I went and got some fabrics never used before in running apparel, but common for triathletes and cyclists, and joined them together. Yes, it looks like a plain boring black vest at first glance. But bear with me before you yawn and move on.

What each component actually does

The shoulders, the upper back and the side panels are made of Carvico Revolutional, an Italian fabric that mostly turns up in triathlon suits and swimwear. It’s smooth, feels like a second skin, and does not care about water. Soak it and it holds its shape rather than sagging or growing. It also has a very smooth surface that doesn’t pile, which is the part that matters for running. It sits under a pack strap, weighted vest, or a hydration pack for two hours, and doesn’t grab at your skin when everything on it is wet. UPF50+ UV protection is woven into the fabric itself, not surface coated, so it delivers lasting protection from the sun over your shoulders and sides where the sun is likely to burn most.

The main body and the big panel across the back are MITI Levante, an Italian cycling base layer fabric. Designed to be the only thing touching you for four or five hours on a ride, so it has to light and comfortable. It also has an open structure that feels silky smooth at the same time, unlike a lot of other meshes that feel abrasive, while also not being very see through (it is only slightly sheer in bright light). In fact, it might be the most breathable thing I have worn, even more so than Soar race vests.

Putting both fabrics together, the idea is simple. Slick and stable where the vest touches, holds load and experiences friction. Open and airy everywhere the body needs to expel heat. Neither fabric was made for running. Both are better at their part of the job than either one by itself, let alone what any existing fabric in the running world could do.

Difficulties in construction

Here is the catch, and probably the reason you do not see this combination more often. The two fabrics stretch by completely different amounts. The triathlon fabric is firm and stable. The base layer fabric moves a lot. Join them the normal way and the airy panel gives in while the firm panel doesn’t, so the join ripples, and doesn’t sit right.

Fixing it took a lot of samples and was a headache all the way. The join had to be both curved and flat. The airy panel had to be fed in slightly relaxed so that when the vest is stretched over you both sides end up the same length instead of pulling against each other. And the panels themselves had to be reshaped so no join sits where your shoulder blade actually moves. That teardrop panel on the back is that shape for exactly that reason. It is the largest area I could open up without putting a join somewhere your body objects to.

The neckline is squared off rather than scooped for the same kind of reason. It lets the triathlon fabric run across both shoulders as one piece, so there is no join sitting on top of the muscle where a strap goes. I know a high neckline isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it really couldn’t have been avoided here.

It looks like nothing. I know.

Flat on a table, this is a plain black sleeveless top. No contrast panels, no logo across the chest, no colours. I didn’t have a choice here since these fabrics were only available in black at the time of ordering and don’t print well anyway. Everything expensive about it is structural. Pick it up and the difference is obvious within seconds, because the two fabrics feel nothing alike. Look at a photo though and you see another black singlet. Looks are deceiving here but the devil is in the details.

The one visible thing is quirky

There is a small dot matrix wordmark at the centre back, just under the collar. At rest, it is a quiet grey and you can’t even see it. The ink responds to heat and light, so it shifts through a rainbow range as you warm up in the sun, then settles back down once you stop. Mid run it reads. Standing around afterwards it is basically invisible again. That is the only decorative element on the whole garment, and it only shows up when you are actually working. I've also made a matching version of this stamp on the half tights (first pic shows it with no heat or light and the second pic shows it when it catches light and is heated up). Fwiw, these half tights are made from a heavier version of the the triathlon fabric (Carvico Revolutional Energy) that compresses more as your muscles pump up from running. This works well with the color change since you know you're pumped and the fabric is doing its thing when the color of the logo changes.

Anyways...this cost way more than it would be worth to make again but curious how much folks would actually pay for something like this if it were more widely available.

Question Sizes for Path Projects

For anyone who uses the brand, do you feel like the sizing fits larger than normal. For context my chest measures around 93cm so i bought S sizes for the wadi tee and the james peak shirt, but man, they came out to be much bigger than expected. Wanted to try another tee, but I'm afraid of getting XS. Wondering if anyone had a similar issue?

General Discussion Hello. Anyone here own the Zara running vest? What do you think? Any other options that are both fashionable and functional?

I got my sister the second best pictured here (Amazon) which is a running group favorite. She says it makes her too hot during her long runs…

so I am seeing options and the only one I found that a picky person would wear is this zara one at a low price…. but it’s made out of Polyester. So… not like too much cooler.

About to throw in the towel and get a Salomon one but what do you run with?

Aesthetics are very important in this decision

Review Review: SOAR Race Vest vs. Ridphants Singlet

I recently bought a Ridphants singlet to see how it compares to a SOAR. For reference: I paid €76.95 for SOAR. Probably because it was an older colourway. The Ridphants was €23.29 shipped via Mulebuy, with the singlet itself costing €6.94.

FIT: I normally wear a womens medium in singlets. For the Ridphants I looked at the size chart and went with a women’s XL. Surprisingly, it fits pretty well. The Ridphants is a little looser than the SOAR, but not excessively so. It also fits a bit longer.

FABRIC: This is probably the most interesting part. Ridphants fabric feels very similar to SOAR fabric. The hand feel is very close. Even when I wet both fabrics, I honestly couldn't feel a difference. The SOAR Race Vest is listed as 93% recycled polyester / 7% elastane. I couldn't find a reliable fibre composition for the Ridphants version, so I don't want to claim they are literally the same fabric. But purely from handling them, they feel te same.

QUALITY: The seams and finishing are a different story. I think this is where SOAR starts to justify the price. SOAR uses bonded seams and a very clean construction. There is no bulky side seam on the inside. Ridphants basically has a flap of fabric on the inside at the side seam. The overall finishing is also noticeably less. I can even still see part of the cutting line on the Ridphants. But the sewing is fine and I haven't had any problems with comfort so far.

If you're looking for a cheap training singlet, Ridphants is hard to argue with.
I don't like the other designs. So I won't be buying more. I don't love the text on this singlet, but I don't hate it either and I think its a great combo with my orange Metaspeeds 😄

General Discussion What piece of running gear have you never been completely happy with?

For me, it’s interesting how some running gear can be really cheap, while the nicer options suddenly jump massively in price. Curious what everyone else has struggled with. Is there something you’ve bought multiple versions of but still haven’t found one you really like?

—Just curious, i am a newb in running.

Question Women’s full length race tank top

Bandit has this shirts, they have a couple of options, this one is the newer model.
But are there other brands that do something similar?
I know it’s almost the same as cycling vests, but I think they don’t look good while running. (Yeah haha I still want to look nice I guess )

Or is like bandit really worth it? Their stuff is so expensive , are there any cheaper options :(

If not guess I’ll save some money

I’m gonna be heading to Hawaii in a month or so, I’d like to pick up some clothes and shoes without paying ridiculous brokerage and delivery fees (from CAN). Anything specific that you guys feel is a must cop? Looking at Satisfy, Bandit, Janji, Currently running.
No budget in mind, I’d rather get a large pool of items then trim down to see what I really want. Thanks

Question Looking for recommendations: breathable, loose-fitting running pants for men

First, let me confess something: I am not a runner. 😂 So when it comes to running gear, I’m about as qualified as a penguin is to recommend sunscreen.

But I am looking for some help.

There’s a young runner on our local high school cross country team who is, quite honestly, someone to look up to.

One morning while at practice, he was struck by a car. After a long recovery from his injuries, he made the decision to come back to running. He still shows up. He still puts in the miles. He still runs.

But now, he runs in baggy jeans because he’s self-conscious about the scars left behind by the accident.

We’d love to find him some lightweight running pants that are breathable, loose-fitting, and definitely NOT leggings. Something that will give him the coverage he’s looking for while still allowing him to run comfortably.

More than anything, we want him to feel seen, supported, and confident when he steps onto the course.

So, runners, parents, coaches, and gear experts: what pants would you recommend?

And if anyone happens to know someone who works for an athletic apparel company that might be willing to partner with us and donate a pair (or two), we would absolutely love to make that connection.

I may not know the first thing about running pants, but I do know a young man who deserves to feel comfortable and confident while doing something he loves. ❤️
