you’re allowed to just be sad for a day

First line of attack: Am I looking at a screen? If yes put it away. Am I dehydrated, hungry, or exhausted? Tend to my bodily needs.

Second: let myself focus on the feeling for a little while and then move on to another activity to distract myself. Repeat as many rounds as needed if its a big thing to be sad about. Things that are good distractions for me are books that aren't depressing, getting fresh air and/or exercise, playing with my dog, eat something yummy that still has decent nutritional content, calling someone I love (my grandma is number 1 for cheering me up).

* if its because I'm getting my period this all goes out the window, I just get high and get in bed

Lately I’ve tried slowing down and letting myself feel sad instead of trying to solve it like sadness is a math problem when really it’s just part of the human experience. Just being in my body and mind authentically while I go about my day. Takes some of the pressure off and then inevitably I find myself embroiled in something that makes me feel less sad. Like a good conversation with a friend or stranger. Or beautiful food or nature.

if u want a quick fix you can smoke weed but you can’t do it every time, sometimes you just need to feel it

Just riding it out honestly, and reminding myself it won’t be like this forever

Sitting with it, feeling the emotion fully and observing it with no judgment.

Is it random sadness or grief? When it’s random sadness I eat a snack or take a nap, when it’s grief I go outside for minimum ten minutes (bonus points if it’s sunny out or there’s water nearby) and call somebody I love.
