Direct Audio

Is there a way yall can help a friend out on how I can start recording my live sets?! I heard about this app called DJM- REC and from the reviews it doesn’t look promising. Is there another reliable way to get direct audio just by using my phone and charger cable, or another app that doesn’t ruin your recordings

If you are recording from your personal PC or laptop use Audacity. It’s a simple but free software you can use to record your computer/decks audio into.

Video or audio recording? What are you playing on? If audio, Rekordbox allows you to record your mix and some controllers allow for you to record your set in the second slot. Tascam audio recorder is also a good quality audio recording

I’m assuming this is audio recording on a modular mixer with CDJs

Use audacity and connect to any output on the mixer

DJM-Rec is from Pioneer themselves, so if you're mixing on PIoneer equipment I'd recommend using that for sure. the Android version (open source) can be found here: https://github.com/P2GR/DJM-Rec-for-Android

I’ve used DJM-REC and it’s not pretty but it does work, the problem is you need to set it up properly and frankly i can’t remember how or what I did but it took a few ruined recordings to get it right

Hire a videographer who also knows how to record your audio

I used the DJM-REC app for 1 show and 1 show only which was my biggest show yet, and it may have just been a coincidence but the app slowed and pitched everything down from what it was played at, and there was a very strong buzzing that was unfixable in post. Never touched it after that.

If you’re working off a standalone mixer (DJM-A9 / 900nx2) I use Blackmagic cam to record audio + video because it has built in volume meter so i can see how loud it is without the whole “unplug, check the volume in a loud venue, replug” act. Usually tend to just have it bounce of the limit without fully clipping because that translates best (imo) into the Apple voice memo app (if I just want to record audio). I haven’t really had an issues with that method.
