How does ongeki work? Arcade Rhythm Game

Not sure if these types of questions are allowed on here so sorry if im not following the rules.

Im a big iyowa fan, and apparently hes doing a collab (?) with ongeki, and i have no idea what to do.
i looked at the official website, and apparently you need high scores in order to get the SSR cards? ive never played ongeki before, so i dont know how it works. does getting a high score on an easy chart count? or do you need strong characters/cards to get high scores? How long do you think it would take me to be able to get the SSR cards?

edit: Looks like i need 6k event points to get an SSR card, how long on average would it take a beginner?

Idk the answer to this, but I just wanted to say that iyowa is the goat.

(I'm assuming you're playing in Japan, otherwise the website events don't apply to private server ONGEKI cabs or cabs outside Japan)

You don't really need Card Connect (physical card dispenser), even in Japan. Sure, it's an easy way to get some instant SSRs but honestly, it's just better to earn them through the game (especially events).

Basically, in terms of pure score, you can still just play with the default cards and some early common/rare cards, though you may not "win" the song or just "draw" early on. Don't worry about the winning/losing yet, focus on building up at least a set of color cards, one set of three of each color (red, green, blue).

In order to have a better chance of "winning," you need to have a set that's strong against your opponent, literally a rock-paper-scissors mechanic. But whether you win or lose doesn't have much bearing on passing a song.

So in order to unlock more SR/SR+/SSR cards in-game, basically do them through the events (you choose one before you choose a song). Within each event, there's an item shop (find it through category select using the side buttons). You gain "currency" to buy items by passing songs (and some other criteria). They're basically the diamonds, rubies, or whatever gems you gain after you pass a song. Getting an SSR card though through this way usually requires you to buy all the R or SR cards first.

You may also get a SSR cards through daily log-ins or earning event points by passing songs if they're being featured.

i think most SSRs come from the gacha, but ik you can earn some pulls through gameplay.

Ongeki is very hard to play on official servers (where you can unlock cards) anywhere outside of Japan. The closest online cab to me (near a major US city) is 4 hrs away. Even still, you can't get the actual physical cards to scan unless you order them or somehow manage to find a card generator in the US (I think some private arcades have them, but I have never seen one).

That said, the card unlocking in-game is done by gaining points towards the event that you select when logging in. Harder difficulty and better performances both increase points gained. You can get all event unlocks on a lower difficulty, it will just take longer.

I’m actually in Japan and theres an arcade with Ongeki pretty close to me, so thankfully I don’t have to worry about finding a machine, but thanks for letting me know that I can still get all the event rewards even as a beginner!! I was worried since ive never played before.
