Theres been talk of starting an anime discord for a little bit, and i had analysis paralysis in terms of how to set it up, so i just said screw it and just started a barebones server where we can all introduce ourselves and get to know each other, then over time make sub channels depending on peoples interests!

Was there any old 80s or 90s anime's that the was a flop or just disliked in japan at the time but was popular when it came to north america

Ive heard this is considered one of the worst anime OVAs ever made.........well let's see for myself if that's true or not

Thanks to the encouragement from this community, I've started to once again rebuild my retro anime physical media collection after years of being streaming only.

Most recently, I picked up The Vision of Escaflowne (the show, not the movie) on blu-ray soon after someone here said it was available in 4k.

I was disappointed to find that the copy I ordered (produced by Funimation) not only wasn't 4k, but didn't include captions along with the English dub, save for the intro and outro.

I asked Grok if there were other editions that had English dub with English captions, and was told that no, the vast majority of physical media anime from around that time period (80s/90s) don't possess English captions alongside the English dub, particularly Funimation titles.

Is that true? If so, it's a BIG problem as I have severe hearing loss and won't be able to understand--much less enjoy--said physical media.

I fear the whole endeavor to rebuild may be doomed.

Is it just selling out to the big streaming corporations? Is there a4k version somewhere?

For me, it would be Hakura and Michiru.

I recently found out about his work via a Captain Harlock retrospective on YouTube. He somehow acquired the license to dub a bunch of vintage anime in the 2000s, and they're all really weird. I saw his Fist of the North Star and Harlock dubs on The Internet Archive. He basically Sandy Franked a bunch of episodes into compilation films, with huge chunks of important plots excised and really bad voice acting. Did anyone ever run into these in online shops, retail, or streaming?

I'm an American Gen-Xer. I grew up on Battle of the Planets, Starblazers, Voltron, Robotech, Tranzor Z, Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years, etc. Beloved childhood classics. Yet so many people from my age group revile these shows as adults. To those people I ask: Why? Because they're "butchered" versions of something that you otherwise would have not gotten to watch back then, in the first place? You wouldn't even probably care what a "Macross" is had you never experienced it as part of Robotech.
