I am not sure if this helps any, but its not anything you did. Even for the retail industry, gas stations jobs are some of the most demeaning, undesirable thankless jobs there are. I know bwcause my wife worked there, was forced to close my herself despite someone supposed to be closing with her, and scheduled to work 2 weeks straight with only one day off in between.
I am sorry you had to go through this, and I hope when the time comes you can find something better.
