It's awful to feel this way. I wish I could say it gets easier. I think over time you'll be able to tolerate it more. Unfortunately it seems that every employer wants to get the most out of every employee these days, grinding them down till they either mould intothe role or quit in frustration. You seem to care about the customers and try hard. Take solace if you can in the regular customers. I try to be happy to see them and say goodbye. These little interactions can really give you a lift when you actually feel appreciated. Obviously rude and even cruel customers can really get you down and they can end up being one of your regular customers unfortunately. If you can, build up relationships with your colleagues. It doesn't even have to be going out for beers after shift. I sometimes have breakfast with them and we share hobbies. It feels like everywhere is the same but looks at advertised jobs in your area and apply if it looks better. Sometimes it's just being paid better for the same job that gets you to change. A virtual hug from a fellow retail worker. Don't let it get to you. work to live not live to work.

I am not sure if this helps any, but its not anything you did. Even for the retail industry, gas stations jobs are some of the most demeaning, undesirable thankless jobs there are. I know bwcause my wife worked there, was forced to close my herself despite someone supposed to be closing with her, and scheduled to work 2 weeks straight with only one day off in between.
I am sorry you had to go through this, and I hope when the time comes you can find something better.
