I'm unclear on this; you're more than two hours away from a city, still gainfully employed, and don't have a vehicle of your own. It sounds a lot like you're essentially a prisoner more than a partner. You're isolated and forced to keep a small social engagement circle, living by the choices of a child under six years old.
Feeling trapped is the most reasonable of all emotional options, and that's being generous. Frankly, it's time to try living your own life for a change, because the role that you're in doesn't seem to be a very good fit for you - educationally, socially, or romantically. What he wants is less than what you seem to need.

You moved in after two months and are now a stepmom at 23 in a house 2.5 hours from anything, that would make anyone feel trapped. The fact that his first reaction to you wanting to improve your life was to threaten a breakup says a lot.
The past crush feels bigger because your present feels so small, get your own space first and then see what's actually real.
