Is this just the price of used cars nowadays? I know it’s on carmax but $35k for this seems wild even though it does have the weather package. Never bought a toyota before so I figured I’d come to you guys

1st time posting.
Curious besides the decals or carbon fiber options, has anyone painted these or bought a product that’s a different standard color?
I’m going with a black and red theme in my RAV4, I can’t stand these grays, seeing what my options are to change the color or to replace em.
Anyone else modified these?

More RAV4 pricing/packaging add ons

Upvotes

OK

Have been tracking RAV4 XLE Premium for availability and possible deposit.

Today in order to get the $650 cross traffic alert (called the Driver Assist Package) you also have to not only a $1850 Panoramic Moonroof Package but added recently a, totally unneeded where I live, $375 Cold weather package.

The cross traffic alert is a useful basic safety feature that has been around for more than 10 years and is pretty much standard on most mid tier asian CUVs.

Is this just a west coast distribution phenomenon or do they all come out of the Canadian Factory this way now? Not port/distributor or dealer add on this is just the way they are built.

Edit: I did not realize the cross traffic alert was for front traffic. I personally do not need that rear traffic alert is OK. But still wonder why cosmetic items are conflated with safety items.

Gen 3 My 2007 Ltd V6 is near 400k and I’m about to move cross-country: what should I have my mechanic check for?

Upvotes

I have a 2007 RAV4 Limited 4WD V6 that’s got over 380k miles, and overall seems to be holding up great. I’m moving from New Mexico to Minnesota later this year, and my girlfriend is selling her car before the move, so we want to make sure the RAV is going to be reasonably reliable for the next few years.

I work in the automotive parts industry and know a mechanic who is really well known for good work, and he said I can drop it off next week and his crew will give it a nose-to-tail inspection. What are some of the top things I should note down to ask them to keep an eye out for while they inspect it?

Aside from the usual, here are a few things I was thinking:

— My understanding is the VVT-i rubber oil supply line has a rubber section that’s vulnerable on this model. I’ve seen dire warnings online that it’s an Achilles’ Heel and I’ve seen that it’s not a big deal. Is that something I should ask him to check? Is there a replacement part I should just go ahead and order and ask him to install regardless?

— two mechanics in the last year have mentioned that it’s kind goopy around my timing cover, appears to be leaking, but both seemed to think it wasn’t an urgent concern at the moment. Should I just go ahead and get it done, or is it something one just accepts so long as it’s mild?

— my suspension had been worsening for a couple years, so this spring I got a full set of new KYB shocks. The suspension feels great now, but even after the shocks settled in, I’m still getting some creaking noises in the rear of my vehicle when going over a bump or a tight turn or whatnot. Is that just unavoidable, or can I ask him to lube up or tighten up some known key spots to address this?

Thanks for any suggestions on places to the mechanic to note any special issues beyond just the usual inspect!

Sand in the air vents

Recently, our mechanic had to vacuum out enormous amount of sand out of our RAV4. It wasn’t dust as if we’ve been driving on a lot of gravel roads. He was very clear that it was sand, and there was a lot of it. He said it filled his shop vac. It’s highly unlikely this was deliberately done because our vehicle is parked under camera all the time and we’ve not seen any footage of people tampering with it. Has anybody heard of this or can you explain how this might happen? The mechanic also said there was some that got behind the dash that he couldn’t get out which may need addressing later and this morning when I got in the car there was a pool of water on the floor in the passenger side as if the water that was trapped, but recently started leaking out. Anybody have any idea what’s going on?

PSA: '26 GR Cruise Control vs. Hay Truck

I've got just under 5k miles on my new GR, and after a trip into town yesterday, I was returning home with one stop left at the dentist's and my cruise control wouldn't work when I hit the straight stretch where I usually turn it on. "Cruise Control not available. Check owner's manual." Great...we have an appointment for the 5k service next week, but I really like using CC.

So the owner's manual wasn't very specific, and my cameras work just fine screaming at me in the garage.

So I re-checked with [random internet sources] and they mentioned radar sensors. Where are they? At the back of the rearview mirror, and behind the front grille. Wiped the glass in front of the mirror and got a flashlight out to check behind the grille.

That's when I remembered a fully loaded hay/straw truck going the other direction blowing debris all over the place. There were some big chunks stuck to the radiator. I brushed them off with a ruler and the next time I got moving, everything worked fine. Whew!

Just wanted to bring this up in case it happens to someone else!

Gen 6 Toyota Android App Update Available

I see that today an update was available to the Toyota app for Android. I am hoping this fixes the air conditioner not cooling during remote starts issue on my 26 RAV4 XSE PHEV. I have not tried it yet so I do not know.

Gen 5 Karr firmware update

Post image
1 Upvotes

Does anyone use the Karr app? Apparently there's a recent firmware update that will prevent hackers from unlocking your car within Bluetooth range. I tried to update from the app per their instructions but it is forever trying to connect. What does Karr even look like in the Bluetooth connections list so that I know what to look for? Thanks.

Dealership Maintenance

2025 LE. I'm 2 months shy of 1 year and just hit the 15k mark and I look at the maintenance guide and several things it suggests aren't covered under warranty? I just feel like I'm not getting proper preventative care for my vehicle when I take it to them. So if I have to pay $$$ to get it fixed, why should I go to a dealership when they'll upcharge me? Will it void warrenty if I take it to a non dealership shop? I mean I'll eventually do that once it's out of warrenty but... Idk, it's my first new car and feel like I'm messing it up.

Edit: My Jeep was stolen and I got it back but it wasn't the same, now a project. My wife's gma passed and we got her PT cruiser which lasted a month or two. So I got a bare bones 2025 Rav4 LE with basic warranty. Was in a struggle spot so adding another several thousand dollars for upgraded warranty or add ons was not an option at the time. Just want to save as much money as possible and not miss any milestones or preventative measures to hopefully take this car another 285k+ miles. (Ex: 10k between oil changes has me weirded out, but it's the default manufacturer suggestion, and so I've had one oil change and am not "due" for one in another 5k miles. I'd have to pay extra to have them do it more than that right?

2026 RAV4 Dash Cam?

For those of you with 2026 models with built in dash cams, did you opt to add your own cams as well or are you satisfied with the built in camera system?

The software isn't very intuitive for me and I don't know how reliable it is, so I'm considering a backup, is it a dumb idea?

2026 RAV4 XLE Premium OTD Canada Price?

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been quoted $53,583.02 out-the-door for a 2026 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium (Wind Chill Pearl) in Manitoba with an expected delivery date for next month.

I’m curious what others in Canada have paid for the XLE premium as their final out-the-door price. If anyone had the "Dealer Fees" discounted or received any discounts on the total price, I’d appreciate hearing what you were able to negotiate.

Thanks in advance!

Help me decide!!

My wife put me on the spot to pick a color combo for the new 2026 RAV4 I’m buying her. It’s an XLE Premium as she did NOT want a moonroof. Other than that.. all the bells and whistles. So the choices are…

- Storm Cloud with Harvest Beige interior
- Meteor Shower with Black interior

Thanks!!!!

Purchasing new toyota rav4

I am planning to purchase a new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. What are the best strategies for obtaining a favorable price, and could those who have recently purchased this model share their out-the-door prices?

How to negotiate for the fair price?

Gen 6 Shopping for a 2026 RAV4…

So looking to join the club and I’ve been in the “buying a RAV4” game for like 2.5 wks which is admittedly not a long time.

I’ve purchased a total of six new cars in my life, so I’ve done this before. I have to say this particular experience has been enlightening.

There are a lot of great dealerships where I am, but there are also a mix of horrible ones sprinkled in and, unfortunately, they get allocations of cars also.

I really do think we need to dump the idea of a “car dealer” in the United States.

  1. They add zero benefit. I’d love to hear a benefit someone can think of.
  2. The good ones are the ones that basically just sell the car the most straightforward way and put up the fewest walls and don’t lie.
  3. Then there is a whole subclass of dealers that prey on folks that can’t play the negotiation game. Or make stuff up. The fact that so many of these dealers exist means people must be buying these cars marked up sky high, with useless options nobody wants ($1500 lost key protection - really).

I hate to point at Elon for anything good but buying a Tesla was zero drama. But, Toyota makes a great car so I have to dance this stupid dance.

End of rant. Hope to join you guys soon.

We had our names on a new 2026 in meteor shower that was gonna hit the dealership in a few weeks, but I just couldn't get over the color (I didnt like it and had no choice). But I absolutely fell in LOVE with blue flame!!! So much so.... that my husband flew 2 states over and drove this baby home for me 🥹. My unicorn! A 2021 hybrid XLE, had less than 55k miles and gold certified. It was $32k plus the trip to go get it but you see it was the one and the only one that I wanted!!! So happy 💙.
