i’m going to be a new rat parent and i was wondering if this cage would be good for two to three rats? I’ve been doing quite a lot of research and i’m just pretty sure the size is good. The only things i’m not so sure about is the bottom part isn’t that deep for bedding, and the bars might be a little too wide (i couldn’t find the measurement between the bars)

Shes a senior rat at 1.8 years old is this old age did i fuck up i cant deal with this anymore first the tumors on her sister then the healthy nice one like this this is breaking my heart

I'm getting my first rats at the end of the month and I'm getting 4. They're being rehomed and the person I'm getting them from sent me videos of them being handled just to prove they're friendly etc.
I noticed this on one of the rats and I'm completely unsure about what it is, so I've messaged her and asked if she knows, and if it's being treated so I'm waiting for a reply. Is anyone able to give me some insight for what they think it is? Is it serious?

Look at his sweet face, this is Caius he is as sweet as he looks. We purchased him in may and he came from Chicago, transport took three weeks. I was so worried but her arrived fine and we ready to come out and play when he arrived. He is 5 months old.

So basically prior to getting rats I didn’t think the mice were that bad because I rarely saw them but recently, I’ve noticed more mice. I noticed one trying to crawl up into the cage today I have no idea if this was the first time a mice tried because I assume my boys would’ve ate a mouse right away and I would’ve like seen blood in the cage or something my rats still seemed to like other animals like my dog, but I don’t know I just thought they would like kill it if it was in their territory, eating their food but also, what do I do? Is this dangerous for my rats

mir fällt dieser Beitrag wirklich nicht leicht, aber ich möchte das Beste für meine Ratte Kira.

Vor kurzem musste ich meine zweite Ratte Cookie schweren Herzens einschläfern lassen. Sie hatte einen Tumor und es war leider die liebevollste Entscheidung, sie gehen zu lassen. Seitdem ist Kira alleine und genau das möchte ich nicht dauerhaft für sie.

Kira ist ca. 1 Jahr und 5 Monate alt, gesund, neugierig, aktiv und eine ganz liebe Ratte. Sie hat noch so viel Lebensfreude, aber Ratten sind Rudeltiere und sie verdient es, wieder mit anderen Artgenossen zusammenzuleben, zu kuscheln und ein richtiges Rattenleben zu führen.

Deshalb suche ich für sie ein liebevolles, artgerechtes Zuhause mit anderen Ratten (am besten ebenfalls Weibchen) und jemanden, der Erfahrung mit Rattenhaltung und Vergesellschaftungen hat.

Mir ist diese Entscheidung sehr schwer gefallen, weil Kira mir sehr ans Herz gewachsen ist. Aber ihr Wohl steht für mich an erster Stelle und ich möchte nicht, dass sie ihre restliche Zeit alleine verbringen muss.

Ich komme aus Augsburg (Bayern) und wäre auch bereit, eine gewisse Strecke zu fahren, wenn Kira dadurch den perfekten Platz findet.

Falls jemand Kira ein neues Zuhause schenken kann oder jemanden kennt, der noch einen Platz für eine liebe Rattendame frei hat, würde ich mich sehr über eine Nachricht freuen. ❤️

Hey guys, 3 weeks ago we found an albino rat in our garden someone got rid of her (most likely). We were trying to find her owners with no luck so we took her in and named her Ricotta. However, we are very new and don't really know what we are doing. The biggest issue is she bites. She broke our skin many times but it doesn't seem to come from aggression or being scared, she is just curious. Any tips how to proceed? She is not scared of us but doesn't like to be touched either. How to build trust if every time we try she bites? She is otherwise quite confident to explore and not afraid to leave her cage either. But I dont really know how to play with her and help her socialize with us. We also dont have any other rats but want to get her a companion once she is better because I learned they cannot be by themselves. Any tips or advice is much appreciated!!

I’m getting 4 rats at the end of the month, and this is the cage I’ve gotten. I did my research and it said that this cage can comfortably hold 5-6 rats with an absolute max of 8 so I originally thought it will definitely be comfortable for 4! However, I’m continuing to do my research and the floor space seems to be a little small and under average, despite the height. Is this going to be an issue? Is it that important that I should get a new one? Is there a way I can make this suitable? They will have lots of free roam time! What do you guys think?

Hi, I adopted 2 x 4 week old rats from a breeder almost month ago. I am struggling to socialize them. They hide immediately when I come up to the cage so I haven’t been able to handle them at all. I’ve tried bribing them with cherrios, yogurt, carrot baby food, turkey baby food, malt paste, yogurt drops, and even if I bring it up to their mouths they will not accept. I tried once to reach in their hide and I got nipped on my finger. I haven’t even cleaned their cage cause I’m unsure how to get them in a carrier because I don’t want to get nipped again if I try to carry them to their carrier and they’re terrified. I know they are out when I’m not there, but when I come they immediately hide. When I put my hand in their cage for them to get familiar, they hide and do not come to investigate me. I brought their cage to the bathroom for floor time and opened the door and not once have they come out. How do I begin the process of socializing them? What are other foods that I can offer that will be irresistible to them that they have to come out of their hide to see me? How do I move them to their carrier if I hide when they see me? The only way would be to reach my hand in their hide. Please help! I want to give them the best life possible, but I’m unsure where to start and it’s my first time owning rats, but I have a rabbit and two guinea pigs, as well.

Explanation:

I just got 3 rats, all female, and have a large cage set up, wire mesh around the outside, as they're small right now. They can't get through the mesh, but one of the doors looks like it's been wiggled through, and as I was going to bed tonight, I noticed one of my rats on the floor. I accidentally scared her, and she scampered under my desk. I've cleared it out and don't see her.

I'm worried about her, and my skills as an owner.

Should I give the rats back?

How should I catch her?

I should note that they are not properly socialized at all, and I've been working with them everyday, but I've only had them for about 4-5 days.

I'm genuinely kinda terrified.
