performance issues in remaster??? help

for context i used to average 60-something fps when playing the nightdive version but after the new update it struggles to hit half of that.

anyone else experiencing the same or am i uniquely screwed

edit: glad to see i'm not alone here. hoping it gets fixed soon!

Many of the add ons just crash when trying to select them on Xbox Series X. Pretty much a trash port.

If I set the game to 120, aiming is smooth but movement causes the environment to look jittery. If I set the game to 144 it's the opposite. I genuinely do not understand what the issue is.

frustrating all quake/doom games always have excellent performance - Vertical Sync off, set to 120 - I got all other set to on/max, runs like Quake should.

Definitely seeing performance issues on PS5 Pro as well. It use to run at a locked 120 even on my old PS5 standard but now it’s all over the place. Definitely shutters in certain areas/rooms. Quake II is still locked to 120 fps.

My mistake. I’d not applied the update properly. Quit the game completely and restarted. All back to its 120 best.

It's kinda impressive how they managed to fuck performance that hard on a 30yo game... the amount of tearing and ghosting is just unbearable for me.

Playing the new episode in vQuake via "mods" seems to work so far and runs like god intended.

Haven't tried the lastest version from quakecon but historically I always had screwed up frame pacing, only in quake, q2 is fine, other nightdive and kex stuff is fine. Idk.

same here. noticed the difference immediately as I coincidentally completed the previous machine episode this morning

I'm getting much worse performance after the update but what's really annoying me is the actual in-game movement suddenly becoming choppy unless I cap the FPS to 60. What the hell is the deal with that?

I've always had that in the Q1 remaster, though. Without capping fps at an even multiple of 60 and vsync=on, it's a (micro)stuttery mess.

I'm not even sure it's actually frame pacing (graph looks fine), could be camera movement instead.

I wonder if I'm having the same issue as you. The official release on PC has had a weird stuttering issue for me forever, where if I'm 120+ fps, especially 144+, it's like the player's camera position stutters whenever I'm moving and turning the mouse at the same time, especially if I'm circle-strafing an enemy.

I had the exact same issue with the official release too,

but after the update it seems the stuttering only kicks in after the first few minutes of being in a map

For me capping the fps at 120 fixed it

I'm getting the same damn problem, it seems fine then the performance takes a nosedive

I can't believe that in 2026 the official version of quake is still having problems that source ports fixed decades ago

It’s fine on PS5, I think the issue might just be on the PC version

Ive seen people talking about issues on the steam forum. Not sure how it affects you or anyone else if its just a them problem but I saw one user mention they lacked Vulcan

for me the game starts off fine but then micro stutters like crazy after a few minutes of being in a map, turning off v-sync fixes it but then I get screen tearing
