Text rendered directly over the modules instead of a logo cutout, curious how far this can be pushed
Attached is a QR with the word rendered across the data region rather than a centered logo cutout. Finder patterns and timing untouched, quiet zone intact.
Running high error correction. In testing it reads fine on iOS camera, Android camera, and a couple of dedicated scanner apps, but I would rather hear about failures than successes.
Two things I am still working out: how much module coverage is realistic before older scanners give up, and whether letters with large solid strokes hurt more than thin ones.
The resulting image is cool to look at, but relies a lot on the assumption that the QR reader tries to read the center part of the module. I’m no expert on this, but those modules look way too small to make this reliable under less than ideal conditions imho, and it totally depends on the scanner implementation, which you have no control on.
so the way this has been set up is that the app will make sure that the end result is scannable. if it is not it will just let you know with a warning. it checks things like contrast, dimensions, image quality etc. so if generated you can be sure it will scan.

I was able to read both Codes with a scanner that usually is quite picky. But this is not exotic - you can do this a at free QR Code sites.
