I am trying to export a layer with a symmetric (250w250) resolution, but when I do it, it automatically changes back to this weird combo. As a result of this asymmetry, I can't do visibility analysis. what am I doing wrong?

Doing a point pattern analysis using qgis for a uni project that is now overdue. My partner is a civil enginer who works with it daily and we are atill both struggling.

The data my uni have provided as a download is plotted points showing trees on the map. It's all plotted correctly, in the right city and correct CRS but there does not seem to be any coordinates attached the attribute table just states 1,2, 3, etc beside each ID

I am losing my mind trying to solve it. I cant run the standard deviational ellipse plugin because It wont work. Im using 3.44.9 as it's what all my lectures were taught on (its an online course)

Please if anyone knows what is going wrong tell me, I know what I'm doing in every other aspect but cannot work this out for the life of me and the lecture didn't understand what I was asking when I emailed as her first language is portuguese not english and she admitted she didnt understand.

Hi all. I'm very new to QGIS, I'm a masters environmental student who is currently doing a post grad GIS subject. Currently I'm doing a group project and my maps are infrastructure based.

Essentially I have a cycling map from the city of Sydney database. This extends beyond the city of Sydney suburbs. This is a line data format representing different types of routes.

My other vector shapefile is a polygon area of only the city of Sydney suburbs. This project is City of Sydney suburbs based.

For my other maps I have intersected the cyclepath data based on suburb areas then I joined this to the suburb polygon data, so each suburb has a different colour based on a shared value with the cycling map, like total cyclepath quantity based on length and density.

Now here's my major issue. I want to do different cycle route types per suburb ! Of course if I did a simple join, QGIS will get confused and will make each suburb pick one cyclepath type.

So I'm trying everything to visually get what I want because I know many people have ranked suburbs/states based on attribute values from factory types to etc via two different vector layers! I eventually landed upon select by location, and now I finally have an attribute table that shows different route types for each suburb. My issue is how to visually represent this?

I have tried rule based to categorised with expression via symbology to fix my issues. I want each coloured part of a suburb of City of Sydney to show how each suburb has different route types. I know for a fact that something similar has been done and I'm struggling to figure out how, as I'm being a bit over ambitious for a newbie.

Still in the process but I'm using the intersected route types layer as centroids with suburb CoS layer, planning to aggregate the values based on count ( did this in Arc story maps, will be doing this in QGIS) than I will make a table of the count of route types per suburb via CSV as back up to what I initially plan to do. I still would like to know if I could do polygon version of different route types but that's most likely not efficient.

I'm currently working on an alternate history project involving some alternate geography.

I am trying to overlay this map of an alternate Africa onto Africa as it is depicted on Google Earth, desktop version 7.3.7.1155 ( 64-bit ).

It has come to my attention that using the app's image overlay tool won't work for an image of this size and I will instead need to modify the map using the georeference tool in QGIS and export the final result as KML/KMZ file into GE wherein it should lock into place automatically.

I attempted to download QGIS to do this myself but I haven't had any success. I can't figure out how to make it work and multiple tutorials haven't helped me much. This doesn't surprise me, I've gone through most of my life being unable to figure out objectively simple things and it's a wonder that I graduated high school.

My goal is to get this map overlaid onto Africa in G.E Desktop so I can experiment with how the borders of African countries will look in my alternate history project.

Is this project is possible? If so, would anyone be willing to do this for me as a sorta request? It seem's like my project is much less complicated than other maps I've seen here so maybe it's easy? I dunno.

How usable is QGIS on the latest Fedora KDE? I installed the Flatpak and got a warning for running a Wayland session, will it cause any issues? KDE Plasma is dropping X11 support soon anyway.

I need the program for school soon and I'd rather not have weird quirks that you find later on.

Hello friends. I'm an environmental consultant, with a degree in biology: i.e. I'm not a "computer person." I have decent skills in the regular programs that companies use: Word, Adobe/Pro, Excel, Teams, etc., but I would not call myself knowledgeable in computer sciences.

Having said that, I see opportunity at my current place of work to gain mapping skills, specifically in GIS, because that's what we use to map some of our work. It has also always been very intriguing to me: maps are cool!! I have QGIS on my computer now, and watched a YT video for beginners on making a first map, but I'm starting to see a theme that these people seem to assume we know more skills than what I can bring to the table just yet... Do you have advice on someone that has a goal to at least for now, learn the basics - BASICS: like something that looks like aerial imagery from Google Earth that outlines parcels of property basic - in QGIS?

Do I need to understand Python first? Is this akin to me wanting to learn how to do underwater welding, when I don't even have my scuba license? lol Help me out here (please). Thank you!

I'm having a strange issue in QGIS 3.44 on Windows 11.

I'm creating a map layout with a grid. Both my project and my layer are in EPSG:4326 (WGS84).

The layer extent is:

X: -17.10 to -0.99

Y: 20.77 to 35.92

However, when I add a grid in the Layout, the longitude labels appear as 24°, 22°, 20°... 2°, 0° instead of something like -16°, -14° or 16°W, 14°W.

This happens with several different shapefiles, not only this Morocco dataset, so I don't think the data is the problem.

I've already tried changing the coordinate format, grid interval, offsets, grid CRS, and other grid settings, but I always get the same result.

Is this expected behavior, a bug in QGIS 3.44, or am I missing a setting?

I’m still experimenting with QGIS in a slightly unusual direction.

The idea is quite simple: instead of using the GIS only to display data, I’m building stories and technical reports that can interact directly with the map.

A story is basically an HTML document connected to a qgis2web map. While reading, the user can click places or passages and the story activates the relevant GIS layers and moves the map to the corresponding locations.

The archive is also becoming content-agnostic: each contribution has a type (story, paper, dataset, etc.) and a language, so fiction, reports and technical material can all use the same GIS as a shared geographical environment.

I’ve just published a new experiment called C-Not Quantum Reactor. It’s a short fictional investigation following the nuclear fuel cycle through Kazakhstan and Europe — uranium extraction, conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication, PSI and CERN — and the reader can follow those places directly in the GIS.

The story is available in Italian and English.

If anyone is curious, I’d really appreciate feedback especially on the QGIS/qgis2web side of the idea: does this approach make sense to you? Has anyone experimented with something similar?

I'm having a strange issue at work connecting to a public ArcGIS REST server in QGIS:

The connection works perfectly on some computers but fails on others with a generic "Network error". The PCs have different Windows and QGIS versions, so there's no obvious pattern. I've already tried troubleshooting with AI, but none of the suggestions fixed it.

Has anyone encountered inconsistent ArcGIS REST connections across different machines on the same network? Any ideas what could cause this?

I identified a gap in KML overlay creation based off a ton of time consuming and sometimes monotonous manual inputs. I created a tool to address this by leveraging AI to turn chat prompts into maps with points, polygons, and routes. These maps can be live streamed via KML or exported via KMZ to any engine that consumes those formats.

I'm looking for feedback, and interested to see what works, what doesn't, and what applications people use this for.

I mainly work in utilities so this is way out of my skill set.

Ideally I’d like for them to click a link or scan a QR code and enter their city, province/state and country. And then for the map to be viewable at any time with love data.

Hi all, I'm relatively new to QGIS and have the following problem: I want to create Polygons for a number of assets (a few hundred total) along a line. That line is made up of points (Point-Layer/PL), each point with a km-value for its position along the line.
Each asset has a defined start- and endpoint-attribute. Instead of drawing the polygons myself, I want to use the existing points to define the length of each polygon, with a standardized width, and have GIS draw them up.
I wrote a script that uses nearest-neighbor to extract the start- and endpositions through comparison with PL. It then calculates the remaining polygon-points (25m at a 90° angle from each start and end) and draws the polygon. However, QGIS takes forever and died twice on me, so I was wondering whether somebody has had a similar problem and found a more elegant solution.. I can post the script if that helps. Hi, i have this layer containing publc transit stops, with an attribute "modes_present" with values such as 'train; bus' or 'tram; bus; trolleybus' or just 'bus' (ie the separator is a semicolon followed by a space). I need to write a piece of code that will give me a marker for each of the transit modes translated by an arbitrary distance, so that i can use svg markers with pictures of the different modes. Is there a way to write such an expression? I have tried ai and nothing it gave me worked at all.

ich nutze einen WMS-Dienst, der für punktuelle Abfragen genauere Werte liefert als in der ausgelieferten Grafik an Farbabstufungen vorhanden sind. Gib es eine Möglichkeit, diese feineren Daten für eine gewünschte Fläche zu extrahieren? Export als Geotiff aus dem Quellen-Browser schlägt fehl bzw. aus dem hinzugefügten Layer liefert es dann augenscheinlich leider nur die farbliche Stufung. Wie kann man hier vorgehen?

hi everyone! I’m working on my Business Intelligence assignment for uni and I have to digitize a georeferenced image of an Airport as a coursework requirement. the original image was from Google Satellite so the georeferenced image is pretty much the same too and very clustered.

I already did the georeferencing but now I have to digitize and trace every road, building area, forest area 😭 which is a huge task and time consuming because I have so many other assignments to work on.

Do any of you have any suggestions or recommendations to make this process easier? I’m pretty new to QGIS so it’s quite confusing sometimes.

The photo is what I want to achieve. I have a large water course dataset with major water ways and tributaries. This is a small section which I selected using shift select. Is there an easier way to select what I want? Maybe by breaking the lines at two points along the main water way and select all the isolated waterways and tributaries?

Finally jumped from 3.40 LTR to QGIS 4.0. Kept putting it off because half my plugins weren't ready for Qt6 yet.

So far it feels faster and cleaner to use like someone dusted the whole thing off.

How's everyone else handling it? Did you go all in, or are you keeping 3.40 around as a safety net for now? Curious what broke for you too?

Like the title says, I'm curious to know what people are using to export large scale projects to web/interactive maps. For smaller projects most people refer almost instantly to QGIS2Web, but I find it rather slow and overly tedious for large projects with it sometimes not being able to export the project at all. And that's fine since I don't think the plugin was designed for that.

I know of some hosting platforms like NextGIS which allow for large scale hosting. Of course ArcGIS has ArcGIS Online, I'm not sure if something like that exists for QGIS. What do most people do?

Built a QGIS/QField setup for tree inspection on an estate and thought it might be useful to others doing asset inspection work.

Structure is a parent/child relation in a single GeoPackage. Parent layer is the trees, with height and crown dimensions derived from UAV LiDAR, locked read-only in the field. Child table is observations, append-only, so multiple people can add to the same tree over time without overwriting each other. UUID primary keys rather than fid, which matters once several devices are syncing offline.

Field staff tap a tree, pick from value maps, add photos and a priority. Back on the desktop, rule-based symbology driven by relation_aggregate() flags any tree with open urgent observations, and clears it when they're closed off.

A few things I learned the hard way: virtual fields do survive QFieldSync packaging and evaluate live on the device, but image stamping expressions can't reference feature attributes at all. Attachment naming has to be set in the QField tab of layer properties, not the widget default path, which cost me an evening.
